    No full text
Source Agritrop Cirad (https://agritrop.cirad.fr/616765/)International audienceThis chapter offers a general presentation of the STICS soil-crop model. Through numerous illustrations dealing notably with genetic x environment x management interactions, it presents an overview of the wide domain of validity of the model, along with its performances, demonstrating its potential for a wide range of agronomic and environmental applications. Since the beginning of its story in the early 90's, STICS has been able to remain a generic and robust model that allows to simulate the functioning of agro-ecosystems, both in temperate and tropical environments. As highlighted in this chapter, and particularly in the last two sections, many efforts were, and are still, put to keep the model up-to-date and in a permanent state of evolution towards better representation of cropping systems, allowing to analyze novel research and applied questions

    No full text

    No full text
The use of second-generation biofuels has been greatly increased due to the impacts on air quality and climate of the combustion of fossil fuels. Prenol (3-methyl-2-buten-1-ol) is identified as a promising second-generation biofuel candidate, it is formed from lignocellulosic biomass such as the inedible part of corn cobs, grass or wood. The release of this Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) in the atmosphere is unavoidable during its transportation, storage and as unburned fuel from car engines. Despite its biogenic origin, prenol can react with atmospheric oxidants and contribute to the formation of various oxidation products which can degrade air quality and have severe effects on human health. In this regard, the objectives of this PhD work were twofold: (i) to study the atmospheric reactivity of prenol and (ii) to assess its toxicity and that of its oxidation products on humans.Experiments dedicated to the investigation of the reactions between prenol and atmospheric oxidants (O3, OH, and NO3) were performed into two atmospheric simulation chambers: CHARME (Chamber for the Atmospheric Reactivity and the Metrology of the Environment, Dunkerque, France) and THALAMOS (Thermally Regulated Atmospheric Simulation Chamber, Douai, France). In both chambers, the prenol rate coefficients were determined at room temperature (293 ± 2 K), under dry conditions (RH < 2 %), at atmospheric pressure and using the relative method. The ozonolysis reaction was performed in the presence of 1,3,5-trimethyl benzene (OH scavenger). The average values obtained were as follows (in cm3 molecule-1 s-1): kprenol+ O3 = (3.26 ± 0.33) × 10-16, kprenol+ OH = (1.48 ± 0.14) × 10-10 and kprenol+ NO3 = (3.00 ± 0.44) × 10-10. Based on these rate coefficients, the calculated atmospheric lifetimes of prenol with respect to its reactions with O3, OH and NO3 are 1.2, 1.8 and 0.5 hours, respectively, indicating that the 3 oxidants are important sinks of prenol in the atmosphere. Beyond room temperature kinetics, the temperature-dependent rate coefficients for the reaction of prenol with ozone and hydroxyl radicals were studied in THALAMOS and Arrhenius equations were determined. The reaction between prenol and ozone exhibits a positive temperature dependence in the range 283 – 353 K, while that with OH displays a negative dependence in the range 273 – 353 K. The oxidation products observed in the gas-phase, at room temperature, for the prenol reaction with the 3 oxidants were carbonyl compounds mainly acetone, glycolaldehyde and formaldehyde and detailed chemical mechanisms leading to these compounds has been proposed. In addition, its reaction with ozone and nitrate radicals has shown to produce secondary organic aerosols, with maximum aerosol yields at 3 % and 4 %, respectively, indicating that these reactions are minor sources of SOAs in the atmosphere. To our knowledge, this work is the first to present a detailed mechanistic study and temperature-dependent Arrhenius expressions for the reactions of prenol with ozone and hydroxyl radicals. Moreover, it is also the first one presenting the formation of SOAs from the reactions with O3 and NO3 radicals. In addition to atmospheric reactivity investigations, a first assessment of the toxic effects of prenol and of its gas- and particles- phases ozonolysis products was performed using an in vitro approach by coupling the chamber CHARME to a Vitrocell™ device.

This thesis project takes place in the context of the transition from conventional agriculture to more sustainable practices, which requires the development of new farming methods that are more respectful of human health and the environment. The reduction in the use of chemical inputs is accompanied by the development of biosolutions, some of which involve the use of beneficial microorganisms, such as arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF), to improve plant growth and health. These AMF have shown the ability to induce resistance in plants against certain fungal pathogens, known as Mycorrhizal-Induced Resistance (MIR). Thus, this research aims to evaluate the ability of the AMF Funneliformis mosseae to protect wheat against Septoria tritici blotch (STB), a major foliar disease in wheat caused by the hemibiotrophic fungus Zymoseptoria tritici. This thesis work revolves around three main objectives : (i) to analyze the transcriptomic modifications induced by F.mosseae at the foliar tissues during the establishment of mycorrhizal symbiosis in the roots ; (ii) to understand the foliar molecular mechanisms involved in the protection of bread wheat against STB, induced by F.mosseae ; and (iii) to characterize the microbial communities associated with the roots and rhizosphere of three plant species, including wheat, cultivated on soil from organic wheat fields in the Hauts-de-France region. The analysis of the co-occurrence networks of these microbial communities will help design microbial inocula enriched with AMF, better adapted to local pedoclimatic conditions. Our results showed that, alongside the increase in root colonization by F.mosseae, a systemic response was observed in wheat leaves as early as the 19th day of cultivation, with a marked activation of numerous leaf gene expressionsstarting from the 42nd day of co-culture. Although plant biomass was not affected by root mycorrhization, several metabolic pathways were simulated, including proteolysis, carbon metabolism, photorespiration (accompanied by stoamatal closure), antioxidant mechanisms, as well as hormonal signaling pathways involving abscisic acid, jasmonic acid, and ethylene, along the activation of defense-related genes. Surprisingly, an upregulation of a large number of these same genes is similarly observed in wheat leaves in response to inoculation by the pathogenic fungus, Z.tritici. Moreover, in mycorrhizal plants subsequently inoculated with Z.tritici, genes coding for proteins involved in photosynthesis are repressed, which could play a role in the plant's ability to limit the development of Z.tritici during its biotrophic phase. Indeed, a 35% reduction in STB symptoms was observed in mycorrhizal plants compared to non-mycorrhizal plants. Furthermore, to optimize the benefits of mycorrhization, the choice of inoculum if crucial. For this reason, a study was carried out to characterize the microbial communities associated with the roots and rhizophere of wheat. This analysis was conducted in comparison with two other mycotrophic plant species (leek and clover) to better understand the wheat-associated microbiota and its possible specificities. Our results showed that microbial diversity (bacteria, total fungi and AMF) was consistenly higher in the rhizosphere than within the roots, regardless of the plant species. In wheat, interactions between AMF and other microorganisms are fewer and different from those observed in leek and clover, where AMF showed strong interactions with nitrogen-fixing, phosphorus-solubilizing, and growth-promoting bacteria. These results underscore the importance of gaining a deeper understanding of wheat-associated microbiota to design more effective AMF-based microbial inocula, providing a more efficient biocontrol strategy against Z.tritici.

Culture-driven plasticity and imprints of body-movement pace on musical rhythm processing

    No full text
International audienceMusic naturally induces human movement through its rhythmic structure. Conversely, synchronised body movement can shape rhythm perception – a short-term effect that is likely influenced itself by lifelong cultural exposure. Yet, direct experimental evidence for both short- and long-term modulation of rhythm processing through movement remains limited. To address this, we present a registered report using electroencephalography (EEG) and hand-clapping responses to a highly syncopated, metrically ambiguous rhythm derived from West/Central African musical traditions (N = 80). These neural and behavioural responses were recorded separately in participants from West/Central Africa and Western Europe (N = 60) before and after a body-movement session involving stepping and clapping to a cued beat (either three- or four-beats meter, the latter concurring with original music-cultural conventions).African participants exhibited a significant short-term effect, clapping more consistently and in closer alignment with the beat as cued in the body-movement session. They also more reliably interpreted the rhythm in line with cultural conventions, both before and after movement. In contrast, European participants showed no significant short-term movement effect. A sibling study was then conducted on an additional Western cohort (N = 80), where the body movement session was replaced by watching while staying still audiovisual clips of individuals performing the same body movement as in the first study. In contrast with Study 1, behavioural responses to the cued beat were found to be significantly more consistent after the training session, suggesting that multisensory inputs, possibly activating motor representation without actual movement production, can elicit a short-term effect even when production of actual movement does not. Finally, inconsistencies between neural and behavioural data in both studies suggest that a brief training session alone may not robustly stabilise a beat interpretation that can be automatically reactivated in neural activity after the movement cessation, particularly in response to a complex, syncopated rhythm. Nonetheless, when participants are compelled to move to such a rhythm, they can draw on learnt beat–rhythm association to guide movement timing

G-UniRouting : A Graph-Based Unified Neural Model for Solving Multi-Attribute Vehicle Routing Problems

    No full text
International audienceReal-world Vehicle Routing Problems (VRPs) involve multiple operational attributes such as capacity limits, time windows, backhauls, open routes, and route duration constraints. Most existing methods are tailored to specific variants, limiting adaptability and reuse. This paper introduces G-UniRouting: A Graph-Based Unified Neural Model for Solving Multi-Attribute Vehicle Routing Problems. Our approach integrates a Graph Neural Network (GNN) encoder that captures spatial and relational structure with a constraint-aware decoder that dynamically enforces feasibility through dynamic masking and distance-aware attention mechanisms. Our proposed model is an end-to-end framework trained using the REINFORCE algorithm with a rollout baseline to minimize routing costs. G-UniRouting is evaluated on 24 distinct VRP variants within a unified framework and employs multi-start inference to enhance solution quality. Experimental results show that our unified model generalizes across diverse constraints and consistently outperforms or rivals specialized baselines, offering a scalable and flexible solution to complex, multi-attribute routing problems.</div

Trace Ratio vs Ratio Trace Methods for Multidimensional Dimensionality Reduction

    No full text
We propose a higher-order dimensionality reduction framework based on the Trace Ratio (TR) optimization problem. We establish conditions for existence and uniqueness of solutions and clarify the theoretical connection between the Trace Ratio and its surrogate, the Ratio Trace (RT) formulation. Building on these foundations, we design a Newton-type iterative algorithm that operates directly in the tensor domain via the Einstein product, avoiding data flattening and preserving multi-dimensional structure. This approach extends classical Linear Discriminant Analysis (LDA) to higher-order tensors, offering a natural generalization of trace-based dimensionality reduction from matrices to tensors. Numerical experiments on several benchmark datasets confirm the efficiency and robustness of the proposed methods, showing consistent improvements over existing matrix- and tensor-based techniques

    No full text
Business leaders, both salaried and self-employed, are exposed to intense lifestyles and high levels of stress. National surveys reveal that they sleep on average less than the general population, experience increased fatigue, and have a high prenvalence of daytime sleepiness and stress. This sleep deprivation, whether suffered or chosen, affects their physical and mental health, as well as their professional performance, notably decision-making and stress management. The main objective was to analyze the links between sleep, physical activity, and mental health among business leaders, and to evaluate the impact of an experimental health education program combined with physical activity. The first study confirmed poor sleep quality, significant sedentary behavior, and high stress levels among leaders. It also revealed that self-employed leaders of small businesses have more unfavorable indicators of sleep, stress and sedentary behavior than salaried leaders of large companies. The second and third studies made it possible to design a health education program with two intervention modalities : support for physical activity for self-employed leaders, and an autonomous program for salaried leaders. Overall, participation in these programs improved perceived sleep quality, reduced stress, and optimized overall health. The distinction between support and autonomy suggests that personalized guidance is particularly relevant for the most exposed profiles. These results show that health education programs including physical activity are innovative and effective strategies to preserve the health and professional potential of leaders, true "athletes of the company".Les dirigeants d'entreprise, salariés et non salariés, sont exposés à des rythmes de vie intenses et à un niveau de stress élevé.
