Simulating light quantity and quality over plant organs using a ray-tracing method to investigate plant responses in growth chambers

    No full text
International audienceRay-tracing models enable the assessment of light quantity and quality intercepted by plant organs, supporting biological studies in growth chambers with varying light conditions. However, their validation within canopies and clear usage methods remain limited. This work establishes a reliable method for using these models. The method includes i) accounting for the intensity and spectrum of light sources in the calibration procedure; ii) a generic calibration strategy using a few well-placed light measurement points based on chamber geometry. It evaluates the method to simulate light phylloclimate at the organ scale across biologically relevant wavebands of contrasted widths and properties. Using the SEC2 light simulation framework, three virtual experiments were conducted in a growth chamber, with and without rose plants. Inputs included chamber geometry, material optical properties, lamp emissions, and digitised plant mock-ups. Simulations were compared with spectral measurements at various chamber positions and sensor orientations, both without plants and inside a canopy. Results showed high accuracy in replicating spatial light variability, with RMSE ranging 0.011 to 0.021 and 0.014–0.038 μmol m−2s−1nm−1 across different wavebands and sensor orientations, for vertical and horizontal transects, respectively. Applying this approach to a case study demonstrated its effectiveness in formulating new biological hypotheses regarding the role of local light in regulating bud outgrowth. This was achieved by highlighting differences in phylloclimate induced by variations in plant architecture. This work thus provides a comprehensive framework for facilitating the application of ray-tracing models in growth chamber studies

Harmonic analysis of a repositioning plan optimization problem

International audienceThe placement of the stops for refueling is an important challenge for the economic aspect in nuclearenergy production industry. Thus in this paper, we intend to study for the pressurized water reactorof 1300 MW so called PWR1300, how economical criteria as the mean core burn-up and safetycriterion as hot power factor, often not correlated, are repositioning sensitive. Given the hugenumber of possible combinations and the very expensive cpu cost of a steady cycle simulation, wehave set a methodology based on a surrogate model using Fourier expansion of the criterion functionon the symmetric group S푛. In this paper, we address this problem in an efficient way takinginto account the limited computational resources: thus we restrict our analysis to the permutationoperating only on the Uox Gadolinium assemblies as UGd. The criteria functions are evaluatedby using the Minos Solver of APOLLO3® neutronics simulation code along the last convergeddepletion cycle. As a result we establish a design of experiments, from which derive an expansionFourier surrogate model of first and second degree with a very good accuracy. After that, we studythe sensitivity of the criteria from the substitution model and we present as a result an intensity mapwhich attests to the importance of specific repositioning of the UGd. These first results show thatthe criteria are repositioning sensitive and call to follow further investigation to the application onmore complex permutation including Uox and UGd ones simultaneously

Product Approach for Analytical and Numerical Solutions of Nonautonomous Linear Fractional Differential Equations

    No full text
This article presents a novel solution method for nonautonomous linear ordinary fractional differential equations. The approach is based on reformulating the analytical solution using the ⋆-product, a generalization of the Volterra convolution, followed by an appropriate discretization of the resulting expression. Additionally, we demonstrate that, in certain cases, the ⋆-formalism enables the derivation of closed-form solutions, further highlighting the utility of this framework

Deformation-Aware Butterfly Tracking in Raw Spatio-Spectral Images

    No full text
International audienceThis paper presents a novel approach to butterfly tracking using Kalman Filters that integrates motion with its orientation and deformation dynamics to improve accuracy. By incorporating the butterfly’s deformation model and orientation, we improve the prediction of its position and its oriented bounding box dimensions, a challenge not addressed by traditional tracking methods based on Kalman filters. The performance of different Kalman filters is evaluated on spatio-spectral image sequences, showing that the Extended Kalman Filter, which accounts for non-linear deformation, gives the best results in terms of accuacy. A cost function for associating Kalman filter trajectories with new target detections is also introduced, considering position, orientation, and oriented bounding box dimensions to enhance identity preservation. This approach improves tracking performance and lays the foundation for more accurate butterfly pest recognition using raw spatio-spectral images in agricultural fields

We consider an analytic function from R n to R and provide some sufficient conditions involving homogeneous polynomials with respect to some family of dilations ensuring that the function presents a strict local minimum at some point. For a polynomial function, we show how to use Tarski-Seidenberg theorem or Sturm theorem to investigate the same issue

    No full text

    No full text
