Teaching Tools to Enhance Student Engagement in Higher Education
No full textInternational audienceObjectives of the research: This project aims to identify the most effective tools for increasing student engagement. Research methods: An ad hoc questionnaire to measure the engagement capacity of teaching tools, principal component analysis (PCA), and machine learning forward regression. Structure of the article: Introduction, methodology and results (sampling, PCA, forward regression), discussion, and conclusions. Research findings: Active interaction and modular organization promote student engagement. A student’s inability to respond to questions about improving a subject often indicates a lack of interest. Engagement increases when previous teaching experiences have not incorporated interactive tools. Pre-class homework assignments enhance interest and make courses more practical. Tools that facilitate teacher-student interaction improve engagement, regardless of whether the teaching style is based on the teacher’s practical experience or a student-centered approach. Conclusions and recommendations: This research identifies several factors that significantly influence student engagement, including a modular structure, active classroom participation, pre- and post-class assignments, content quality, teaching style, and interaction through discussion platforms

For a Pragmatist Approach to Teaching Accounting for Sustainable Development: Programme Proposals and Illustrations
No full textInternational audienceThis paper addresses the issue of teaching accounting for sustainable development (or social and environmental accounting). The term "accounting" encompasses, in its broadest sense, financial and managerial accounting, management control, and audit, with specific adaptations for sustainable development. We approach the question of the content of accounting courses and the articulation between financial and non-financial accounting in a dynamic context where even the teacher is in a learning position. In the first part, we formulate content proposals for an accounting curriculum. Reflection on these proposals then leads us to the concepts of inquiry and semiotic mediation (Lorino, 2009, 2020) as investigation tools. We present them in the second part, reflecting on how to apply them in the courses. Finally, in the third part, we discuss examples of education approaches based on these concepts

No full textInternational audienceDigital technology has become indispensable in many areas of human life. Its use in education in general, and in university learning in particular, has grown steadily over the years, to the point of overturning the professional practices of teachers and students alike. This contribution focuses on the digital practices of students and their conception of the role of the teacher and teaching in university learning. It shows, however, that the use of digital technology remains complex and that its usefulness remains paradoxical, or at least not unanimously accepted by all students.Le numérique est devenu indispensable dans différents domaines de la vie humaine. Son utilisation dans l’enseignement en général et plus particulièrement dans les apprentissages universitaires s’est développée au fur et à mesure des années jusqu’à bouleverser des pratiques d’enseignants et d’étudiants. Cette contribution s’intéresse principalement aux pratiques numériques des étudiants et à leur conception du rôle de l’enseignant et de son enseignement dans les apprentissages universitaires. Elle montre que l’usage du numérique reste complexe et que son utilité demeure paradoxale, ou du moins ne fait pas l’unanimité chez les étudiants
