Introduction. La vie sociale des monuments : mises en scène, appropriations et contestations
International audienceBequeathed by the past and crafted by the human hand, monuments continue to ask questions of us, to stir our emotions and to make us think. While most of them have undergone a process of patrimonialisation, each generation debates them, especially as this heritage gives rise to current controversies (colonialism, genocide, glorification of historically questionable figures). This issue focuses on cases of stagings produced by audiences (toppling, covering-up, reappropriating, etc.) involving intentional monuments, namely those deliberately erected to commemorate an event, a figure or an idea.
Monitoring Ethical Tensions Encountered When Using Digital Health Solutions: Implementation of an Ethicovigilance Platform
International audienceDigital health is transforming healthcare by enhancing accessibility, efficiency, and personalized care. It facilitates telemedicine, provides clinicians with data-driven insights, and streamlines administrative processes to reduce costs and improve patient care. However, challenges persist, including privacy concerns, data security issues, and the risk of exacerbating inequalities. To address these challenges, France’s Digital Health Delegation (DNS) developed a Framework for Ethics in Digital Health (CENS), emphasizing principles such as accessibility, transparency, trustworthy AI, and sustainability. Despite this initiative, achieving consistent ethical compliance remains difficult. In response, the DNS launched the Ethicovigilance platform in late 2023, enabling users to report ethical concerns when using digital health solutions. By 2024, 27 reports were collected, with 11 fully investigated. Key issues included unauthorized access to health data, lack of transparency, and insufficient user autonomy. These cases highlight systemic vulnerabilities, such as data misuse and inequitable access. Promoting trust, transparency, inclusivity, and accountability, alongside clear stakeholder responsibilities, is essential to align digital health with ethical standards and improve patient outcomes

Paradoxical “weaning complex” in bariatric surgery: From hyperphagic addiction to a pleasure in speaking
International audienceAbstract The aim of this article is to present and discuss the unconscious psychological issues involved in bariatric surgery, in the light of the notion of the “weaning complex”. After highlighting the risk of post‐operative suicide, we present the psychic mechanisms of decompensation among the patients concerned. We then recall that hyperphagia leading to obesity is a prevalent form of addiction in consumer societies. We also explore the notion of the “weaning complex” which was developed by Lacan, and show that bariatric surgery is a type of paradoxical and abrupt weaning. Based on the clinical case of a patient suffering from post‐operative psychic decompensation and who was previously obese and addicted to food, the article explains that post‐operative decompensation results from a major difficulty of shifting the drive satisfaction of food addiction to another object. In conclusion, we argue that restoring a taste for speech to these patients in the context of a clinical encounter is a central issue in countering the exacerbation of the death drive associated with the operation
