    No full text
International audienceThis article identifies the key success factors and the obstacles to warehouse pooling. It is based on both a literature review and an exploratory qualitative study of seven cases in France. The analysis reveals that the main success factors are the choice of partners, the willingness of managers, the presence of a trusted third party, and the sharing of information, knowledge, decisions, resources, and benefits. Conversely, the main obstacles to setting up pooled warehouses are identified as the willingness of managers, significant investment, compatibility of flows and products, organizational complexity, the time and maturity of the partnersCet article identifie les facteurs clés de succès et les freins à la mutualisation des entrepôts.

EXPERIMENTAL INVESTIGATION OF ROTOR SHIELDING EFFECTS ON AXIAL FLOW FAN USING AN INTERSTAGE ARRAY

    No full text
International audienceAn experimental investigation is performed on a small-scale axial flow fan in a ducted configuration to observe rotor shielding effects. The study focuses on spinning azimuthal modes incident on a rotor-stator layout in the presence of flow. The sources considered are a ring of loudspeakers generating a particular spinning mode. Along with the reflection and modified transmission, several phenomena like mode scattering and mode trapping are expected. An array of 64 microphones is employed in the interstage, i.e. between the rotor and stator rows. The microphones are arranged in two rings and two spirals on the duct surface using a remote probe configuration and its axial extent is 40mm. The interstage array helps in providing a detailed understanding of the noise propagation between the rotor-stator rows. The modal decomposition is based on a Bayesian inversion method. Both the frequency dependence and the spin direction are examined at various engine operating points

This thesis presents a comprehensive numerical investigation of flow dynamics and aeroacoustic mechanisms associated with a leading-edge slat using high-fidelity simulations. A sub-scale academic model of the slat geometry is employed to perform Large Eddy Simulations (LES) based on the Lattice Boltzmann Method (LBM), enabling detailed resolution of flow structures and noise sources. The thesis also discusses the computational setup, theoretical formulations, and validation procedures pertinent to aeroacoustic simulations, ensuring the fidelity and reliability of the numerical approach. The simulated results are rigorously validated against experimental data from a preceding study to ensure quantitative and qualitative accuracy. The analysis reveals previously unreported spanwise inhomogeneities within the slat cove flow. Specifically, the spanwise velocity component exhibits spatially periodic modulations, which induce localized oscillatory behavior and contribute to enhanced acoustic emissions. To further investigate this phenomenon, a parametric study involving variations in cavity geometry is conducted, highlighting the sensitivity of spanwise modulation patterns to geometric features.Additionally, a Bayesian surrogate modeling framework is developed to predict far-field noise characteristics. This surrogate is coupled with an Active Learning strategy to iteratively refine the sampling of the high-dimensional design space, improving model accuracy with minimal computational cost. Theoretical formulations underpinning the surrogate model and the sampling methodology are detailed, and applications of the model demonstrate the efficacy of the approach in capturing the characteristics of the acoustic spectra resulting from complex flow-noise interactions.

International audienceManaging aquatic environments today requires a paradigm shift. Researchers have shown that biophysical knowledge is not enough to manage aquatic ecosystems. For their part, managers are increasingly integrating the need to take people's interactions with aquatic environments into account in their proposals for public action. The dialogue between researchers and managers is thus enabling them to work together on appropriate tools to offer concrete solutions to the problems of conserving these fragile environments. This article aims to understand the human dimension present in an environment made up of social, ecosystemic and political interactions. To this end, this research mobilizes the notion of socio-ecological connectivity as a tool for systemic knowledge of the issues linked to the multiple interactions of societies with these ecosystems and vice versa, based on a categorization of social representations and practices. On this basis, the Dlo laté dlo lanmè (Water from de land, water from the sea) project on the island of Martinique was co-constructed by academics and managers. Based on qualitative research, the project identified the characteristics and intensity of interactions between the people of Martinique and their immediate environment. This work, based on environmental social geography, offers a new approach to understanding the relationship between society and the aquatic environment, by placing the spatial dimension at the heart of the analysis, and providing a dynamic account of the temporality that structures these interactions.

Investigating Experimental Short Term Imprint Dynamics in Ferroelectric Hafnium Oxide Through Phase‐Field Modeling

    No full text
International audienceAbstract Ferroelectric imprint in Hf 0.5 Zr 0.5 O 2 (HZO) polycrystalline thin films poses severe reliability challenges to ferroelectric devices, with its underlying mechanisms still under debate. In this study, a novel 3D phase‐field modeling framework is presented to investigate the time‐dependent imprint phenomenon in HZO thin films. The phase‐field model incorporates charge injection and electron tunneling within the polycrystalline phase‐field structure, effectively reproducing key experimental trends, including polarization‐voltage curve shifts with increasing pause time, together with the recovery process achieved through field cycling. Through comprehensive analysis, the framework contributes to elucidating the complex interplay between the interfacial dielectric layer and electron detrapping mechanisms, which are critical in shaping ferroelectric imprint behavior. These findings enhance the understanding of imprint mechanisms in polycrystalline hafnium oxide and provide strategic insights for improving the performance and long‐term reliability of HZO‐based ferroelectric devices

Asymptotic inversion of linear systems : A constructive causal state-space approach

    No full text
This article proposes a constructive design of an input observer for linear time invariant systems, grounded on asymptotical left inversion. Based on necessary and sufficient conditions for its existence, such a design leads to a causal and asymptotically convergent input estimation, for any initial condition and any input. Such design is iterative and decomposed as a forwardbackward algorithm. Starting from a given initial system with an unknown input to be estimated, the forward algorithm leads, in a finite number of steps, to a system without any unknown input, called the target system. This forward algorithm requires iterative elementary algebraic operations for the system transformation. Subsequently, the backward algorithm includes a state estimation for the target system and computes an estimate of the unknown input, based on inverse algebraic operations used in the forward algorithm. As a final result, such input estimation is realized as a linear and causal dynamical system. An example illustrates the methodology

Engineering sciences develop models and design processes, as well as assessment and decision-making tools, to meet the challenges facing society, such as the ecological transition to sustainability. The aim of this thesis project is to develop a theoretical framework for understanding how design can exist in contexts of strong sustainability. This framework is composed of three characteristics of strong sustainability (environment, regeneration and safe and just space). The Design Research Methodology (DRM) was used to explore the framework and build the new design methodology for strong sustainability in the ideation phase. Five experiments in line with each stage of the DRM were carried out: Descriptive Study I, Prescriptive Study I and Descriptive Study II in an educational context, civil society organizations and industry. These experiments demonstrated the methodology's ability to guide designers in integrating aspects of strong sustainability into the design process. Three contributions have been identified: (1) the formalization of the theoretical framework of strong sustainability in design, (2) the design for strong sustainability methodology, (3) the design for strong sustainability Toolkit© to guide design.

Using indentation to identify the parameters of a numerical third-body model: Application to a rubber-like material

    No full text
International audienceThis paper proposes a reverse analysis procedure to identify the constitutive parameters of a rubber-like material, as input for an upcoming friction model. For this purpose, several indentations were experimentally performed and numerically duplicated. The aim is to develop an elasto-plastic indentation model to be consistent with the future friction model, which describes an elasto-plastic flow. The material, representative of a third body, is modeled as a collection of deformable and cohesive bodies using a soft multibody meshfree approach. Two parameters will be identified, which are the Young modulus of each body and the cohesion coefficient between each body. The model is able to simulate a wide range of behaviors, from elasto-plastic to purely elastic indentations. The resulting kinematics is consistent with velocity field measurements from the literature. Moreover, indentation curves could also be extracted. Results show that hardness depends on the elastic and the plastic contributions. The elastic contribution is governed by the Young modulus of each body, while the plastic contribution is driven by the ratio of cohesion coefficient over Young modulus. Two reverse analysis methods are proposed, one for elasto-plastic materials, the other for visco-elasto-plastic materials, both suited to modeling third-body mechanics. Unicity of the solution is ensured for a cohesion coefficient less than 0.2-0.4 times the Young modulus. Several tests were carried out on a rubber-like material and showed that hardness depends on strain rate according to a power law. Using reverse analysis, the values of Young modulus and cohesion coefficient as a function of strain rate were determined

Comparaison des Impacts Environnementaux des Réseaux de Distribution AC, DC et Mixte

    No full text
