    Influence of Initial Capital on Optimal Sizing of Grid-Connected Photovoltaic System: A case study in Tunisia

    International audienceThis research explores the incorporation of initial capital limitations into the design and optimization of grid-connected photovoltaic (PV) systems, with a focus on their economic and environmental implications. Moving beyond traditional approaches that prioritize energy cost reduction alone, this study presents a unique framework that harmonizes financial viability with technical efficiency. The investigation is divided into three main stages: determining system size, managing excess energy, and analyzing economic outcomes. A case study conducted in Sousse, Tunisia, validates the proposed methodology, utilizing simulation tools such as HOMER and MATLAB. The results demonstrate that an optimal PV setup, featuring a 2.25 kW photovoltaic array, a 1.5 kW inverter, and a 1 kWh battery, becomes economically viable when investments surpass TND 8 million. The findings reveal that integrating financial limitations enables a more strategic approach to renewable energy deployment, lowering the energy cost to TND 0.130/kWh and reducing CO2 emissions from 2597 kg/year to 1490 kg/year. Additionally, the study offers insights applicable to other areas with comparable economic and environmental characteristics. This research provides a practical framework for policymakers and investors seeking to optimize PV systems under budget constraints, supporting the global shift toward sustainable energy practices

    Transporter-Mediated Interactions Between Uremic Toxins and Drugs: A Hidden Driver of Toxicity in Chronic Kidney Disease

    International audienceChronic kidney disease (CKD) is associated with the systemic accumulation of uremic toxins (UTs) due to impaired renal elimination. Among these, indoxyl sulfate (IS) and p-cresyl sulfate (PCS) are particularly challenging because of their high protein binding and limited removal by dialysis. In addition to renal excretion, the transport of IS and PCS, and their microbiota-derived precursors, indole and p-cresol, across key physiological barriers—the intestinal barrier, blood–brain barrier, and renal proximal tubule—critically influences their distribution and elimination. This review provides an overview of transporter-mediated mechanisms involved in the disposition of IS, PCS, and their microbial precursors, indole and p-cresol. It also examines how these UTs may interact with commonly prescribed drugs in CKD, particularly those that share transporter pathways as substrates or inhibitors. These drug–toxin interactions may influence the pharmacokinetics and toxicity of IS and PCS, but remain poorly characterized and largely overlooked in clinical settings. A better understanding of these processes may guide future efforts to optimize pharmacotherapy and support more informed management of CKD patients, particularly in the context of polypharmacy

    Efficient Deep-Reinforcement Learning for Photovoltaic Systems Under Faults Based on the I-V Curve Approach

    International audienceCleaner and sustainable Photovoltaic (PV) systems need to be supervised and monitored to reduce waste energy and improve power efficiency. The proposed technique in this work enhances solar energy production by precise fault detection of short-circuit and partial shading. It extends the PV system lifespan by mitigation component and further premature replacements. Moreover, automatic fault diagnosis helps maintain steady performance in variable climatic conditions and under varying occurred faults that minimize the backup to generators and energy losses. Firstly, we introduce a Bonobo Optimization Algorithm (BOA) that is capable of extracting and identifying the unknown parameters of the PV cell to model our study PV system and to mimic the fault behaviors. The identified model is validated and then used to generate the I-V and P-V curves, which are then fed to three autoencoders (AE) within an unsupervised learning framework to extract their features. Afterward, reinforcement learning (RL) is integrated through a stacked autoencoder (SAE) to combine environmental attributes such as solar irradiance and temperature with electrical features to improve the learned features and their sparsity. Also, to enable the system to adapt dynamically to new fault scenarios and noisy environments, deep-reinforcement learning (DRL) improves feature representation and classification through Artificial Neural Networks (ANN). This methodology provides an identification and categorization of 12 selected fault types in separated and combined ways, where this technique has been applied to a PV plant located in Algeria. The classification results exhibited exceptional accuracy, achieving 100% in the training phase and 99.8% in the testing phase, even amongst noisy input conditions with 97.2%. This study provides valuable insights into improving the reliability and efficiency of PV systems, particularly in the smart IV diagnosis that used multi-string PV inverter

    Étude des freins et des leviers à la vaccination des femmes enceintes contre le virus respiratoire syncytial par Abrysvo ® dans une stratégie de protection des nourrissons en Picardie

    Introduction: Bronchiolitis, mainly caused by respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), is a common and sometimes severe respiratory infection in infants. To reduce its impact, maternal vaccination with Abrysvo has been introduced in France since September 2024. However, pregnancy remains a sensitive period, and vaccine acceptance may be influenced by various factors. Objective: To identify the barriers and facilitators to RSV vaccination with Abrysvo among pregnant women as part of an infant protection strategy in Picardy. Methods: A qualitative study was conducted with 16 pregnant women eligible for Abrysvo vaccination in Picardy between November 2024 and January 2025 through semi-structured interviews. Results: The main motivation for vaccination was the desire to protect their future child from bronchiolitis. However, several barriers emerged, particularly concerns about the lack of long-term data and potential side effects. Discussion: Although generally favorable to vaccination, participants expressed a need for clearer and more detailed information. The lack of communication from healthcare professionals increased doubts and concerns, especially regarding vaccine safety. Conclusion: The study highlights the need to better support healthcare professionals by providing updated knowledge and clear institutional guidelines. Improved communication training could also help strengthen patient adherence to vaccination.Introduction : la bronchiolite, principalement causée par le virus respiratoire syncytial (VRS), est une infection fréquente et parfois sévère chez le nourrisson. Pour en réduire l'impact, la vaccination maternelle avec Abrysvo, disponible en France depuis septembre 2024, a été introduite. Toutefois, la grossesse reste une période sensible où l'acceptation de cette vaccination peut être influencée par divers facteurs. Objectif : identifier les freins et leviers à la vaccination des femmes enceintes contre le VRS par Abrysvo dans une stratégie de protection des nourrissons en Picardie. Méthode : étude qualitative menée auprès de 16 femmes enceintes éligibles à la vaccination entre novembre 2024 et janvier 2025, via des entretiens semi-dirigés. Résultats : la principale motivation des femmes est de protéger leur futur enfant contre la bronchiolite. Néanmoins, des freins subsistent, notamment des craintes liées au manque de recul sur le vaccin et à ses effets secondaires. Discussion : bien que favorables à la vaccination, les participantes expriment un besoin d'informations plus claires et détaillées. Le manque de communication des professionnels de santé renforce les doutes et les inquiétudes, notamment sur la sécurité du vaccin. Conclusion : l'étude souligne l'importance d'accompagner les professionnels de santé par des connaissances actualisées et des recommandations précises. Une meilleure formation en communication favoriserait l'adhésion des patientes

    International audienceTwo new Chelonioidea Oppel, 1811 marine turtle dentaries from two Paleocene sites in the Paris Basin (Oise) represent the oldest European occurrences of the genus Euclastes Cope, 1867, along with Eu. wielandi (Hay, 1908) from Laversines (Danian), and Eu. montenati n. sp. from Therdonne (Thanetian). The family Euclastidae n. fam. is erected and includes the genera Euclastes Cope, 1867 (type species Eu. platyops Cope, 1867), Mexichelys Parham & Pyenson, 2010 (type species Mexichelys coahuilaensis (Brinkman, Aquillon-Martinez, De Leon da Vila, Jamniczky, Eberth & Colbert, 2009)) and Pacifichelys Parham & Pyenson, 2010 (type species Pacifichelys hutchisoni (Lynch & Parham, 2003)), Erquelinnesia Dollo, 1887 (type species Erquelinnesiagosseleti (Dollo, 1886)) and Glossochelys Seeley, 1871 (type species Glossochelysplanimentum (Owen, 1842)). It corresponds to the "Euclastes group" of Jalil et al. (2009) and the "Euclastes clade" of Parham (2005) and includes taxa previously placed in the Osteopyginae Zangerl, 1953 (type genus Osteopygis Cope, 1868), which is a chimaeric subfamily. Indeed, Zangerl (1953) included in the type species Osteopygis emarginatus Cope, 1869 (whose holotype is a non-chelonioid postcranial) species from the same levels (Paleocene, New Jersey) but with chelonioid skulls. Within the new family, two informal groups are recognized, those of Euclastes and Erquelinnesia, a genus also present in the Paleocene of the Paris Basin. Among the Chelonioidea, whose various secondary palate types are examined, the Euclastidae n. fam. is differentiated from the Toxocheyidae Baur, 1895 sensu Zangerl (1953) and the Cheloniidae Oppel, 1811. The Euclastidae sites are studied: for the first time, lithological correlations are highlighted between the Danian limestone beds from Laversines and the Thanetian Bracheux sands from Bracheux (Butte de la Justice), Therdonne (Oise) and Rollot (Somme). The successive transgressions of the Danian and Thanetian seas in the Paris Basin are illustrated. Stratigraphic, lithological, paleogeographic and environmental contexts (associated faunas, crushing diet) are studied. The distinctly marine level at Bracheux and Rollot, with Erquelinnesia, is distinguished from that with Euclastes from Laversines and Therdonne, the latter more littoral with continental inputs, including a new pleurodire ?cf. Bothremydidae. En effet, Zangerl (1953) a inclus dans l'espèce type Osteopygis emarginatus Cope, 1869 (dont l'holotype est un postcrânien non chélonioïde) des espèces de mêmes niveaux (Paléocène, New Jersey) mais fondées sur des crânes chélonioïdes. Au sein de la nouvelle famille, sont reconnus deux groupes informels, ceux d'Euclastes et d'Erquelinnesia, genre également présent dans le Paléocène du bassin de Paris. Parmi les Chelonioidea, dont les différents types de palais secondaire sont examinés, les Euclastidae n. fam. sont différenciés des Toxocheyidae Baur, 1895 sensu Zangerl (1953), et des Cheloniidae Oppel, 1811. Les sites de récolte sont étudiés: pour la première fois sont mises en évidence les corrélations lithologiques entre les couches du calcaire du Danien de Laversines et des sables de Bracheux du Thanétien de Bracheux (Butte de la Justice), de Therdonne (Oise) et de Rollot (Somme). Sont montrées les transgressions successives de la mer au Danien et au Thanétien dans le bassin de Paris. Les contextes stratigraphique, lithologique, paléogéographique et environnemental (faunes associées, régime alimentaire broyeur) sont étudiés. Le niveau marin franc à Bracheux et Rollot, à Erquelinnesia, est distingué de celui à Euclastes de Laversines et Therdonne, ce dernier plus littoral à apports continentaux, dont un pleurodire nouveau ?cf. Bothremydidae. La distribution mondiale des Euclastidae n. fam. est examinée

    Comprehensive analysis of CNOT3-related neurodevelopmental disorders: phenotypic and genotypic characterization

    International audienceThe CCR4-NOT complex, crucial in gene expression regulation, includes CNOT3, a subunit linked to neurodevelopmental disorders when mutated. This study investigates 51 patients from 42 families with heterozygous CNOT3 variants, aiming to expand the understanding of CNOT3-related neurodevelopmental disorders and explore genotype-phenotype correlations. Patients originated from various countries, reflecting the disorder's global significance. All patients exhibited developmental delays, particularly in the language area. Intellectual disability was found in 87% of patients and was typically mild to moderate. Behavioral issues, including autism spectrum disorders and attention deficits, were common, affecting over half of the patients. Dysmorphic features were highlighted and may help establishing the diagnosis. Epilepsy was uncommon (10%). Twenty-eight novel variants were identified, including missense, nonsense, frameshift, intronic variations and a deletion of 12 exons. Missense variants clustered at the N- and C-terminal regions of the protein, indicating critical functional roles. No clear genotype-phenotype correlation was observed, suggesting that all identified variants resulted in a loss-of-function effect. Finally, this work delineates the clinical and molecular spectrum of CNOT3-related disorders thanks to an in-depth characterization of a large cohort. Further research will be necessary to understand the functional consequences of the variants and enhance patient long-term outcomes

    Accelerated discovery of solid-state battery properties enabled by active learning approaches

    International audienceIn this study, we present a large-scale machine learning screening to discover promising candidate compounds for lithium-based solid-state electrolyte batteries. Key properties such as superionic conductivity and wide electrochemical stability are crucial for achieving high-performance solid-state batteries, which have great potential as the next generation of batteries with high energy density and relatively low cost. Our work employs high-throughput screening using multiple regression machine learning models on lithium-containing materials. Subsequently, ab initio molecular dynamics (AIMD) simulation and experimental validation were conducted exhibiting high ionic conductivity, namely Li4.5TiO3.25 and Li2VCl5. Furthermore, we applied a design methodology to increase the ionic conductivity at ambient temperature. These findings provide a comprehensive strategy for the development of room-temperature superionic conductors for high-performance solid-state batteries
