Investigations of compacted soil-organics mixtures with spectral induced polarization

    No full text
International audienceIn this study, we present a new integrated experimental approach to investigate simultaneously the electrical spectral induced polarization (SIP), mechanical, hydraulic and chemical properties of synthetic clayey soil mixed with different types and quantities of organic matter. It addresses knowledge gaps that aim to advance SIP as a non-destructive analysis tool for soils. We used an inorganic clay as a proxy for clayey soil with a moderate cation exchange capacity to achieve more realistic test conditions since most studies use sand. Three organic matter (OM) types with contrasting properties, biosolids, peat and sugar cane residue, broaden the range of organic carbon materials that have been tested. Our study demonstrates a strong relationship between the imaginary part of the complex conductivity and the total organic carbon content of the soil-OM mixtures. It indicates that the relationships depend on the degree of aromaticity, with the slope angle increasing as the degree of aromaticity of the OM increases. Hence, the quantity of OM, as well as its chemical structure, plays a key role in SIP response. Interestingly, these relationships are independent of soil water saturation and bulk density. These findings are of paramount importance for enabling field-scale applications and confirm the potential of SIP as a noninvasive tool for monitoring and characterizing soil in situ

    Causality and communication in physics

    No full text
Understanding the concept of causality is fundamental in physics, as it conditions the very possibility of any exchange of information between physical systems. This article examines and compares three main interpretations of the correlative operational concept of "causal separation" that have been respectively proposed in special relativity, quantum theory, and according to the statistical "non-signalling" condition. These interpretations, which can be classified regarding the range of CHSH correlation degrees they allow, lead to radically different results regarding the exchange of information between physical systems. Namely, it can be shown that, in opposition with the non-communication theorem of quantum theory, non-local communication can be established between the two entangled parts of a physical system when the relativistic criterium of causal separation is satisfied but not the quantum one

La rupture conventionnelle, variable d’ajustement du budget de l’assurance chômage ?

    No full text

Trial Watch - bispecific T cell engagers and higher-order multispecific immunotherapeutics

    No full text
International audienceOver the past decades, cancer immunotherapy has evolved into clinical practice, with bispecific T cell engagers (TCEs) and other higher-order multispecific immunotherapeutics emerging as approaches for precision immune modulation. These engineered antibodies redirect immune effector cells toward tumor targets, thereby eliciting coordinated antitumor immune responses. While substantial clinical success has been achieved in hematologic malignancies, major challenges, such as limited activity in solid tumors, continue to constrain broader application. In this Trial Watch, we summarize recent preclinical advances in the design and optimization of TCEs and multispecific immune engager platforms together with available clinical trial data. We further examine key pharmacokinetic, safety, resistance, and manufacturing considerations in immune engager development. Collectively, these findings highlight the increasing versatility of immune cell-redirecting immunotherapies and their pivotal role in shaping the next generation of precision cancer therapy

SCANDARE: an institutional dynamic prospective interventional biobanking study

    No full text
International audiencePurpose:We set up a prospective longitudinal biobanking study answering scientific questions within a regulatory framework and patient-centered approach. We aim in this paper to present the opportunities of such a study, as well as the challenges and the limitations.Patients and methods:SCANDARE (NCT03017573) is an institutional first monocentric then multicentric biobanking study. The study enrolled adult patients with newly diagnosed head and neck squamous cell carcinoma, triple negative breast cancer, ovarian and cervical cancer. All patients signed a consent form before any procedure. Tumor tissue and blood samples are collected at several time points during patient's journey, including at diagnosis, post-neoadjuvant chemotherapy in case of neoadjuvant treatment, at surgery, at recurrence and at disease progression following treatment initiated at recurrence. Clinical data are entered into an eCRF, whereas generated data are centralized in a secure database. Results:SCANDARE started in 2017 at Institut Curie and has included 676 patients at date. SCANDARE successfully addressed challenges related to patient consent, regulatory compliance, and logistical integration of sample collection into routine clinical practice. The study facilitated the longitudinal collection and preservation of tumor and blood samples, enabling comprehensive analyses from histopathology to genomics and proteomics needed for the 35 ongoing projects run by academic research groups and industry. The implementation of optimized sampling and data workflows enabled high-quality data. Several other cohorts are planned to open soon. Conclusion:SCANDARE is an institutional, prospective and dynamic biobanking study that successfully enabled the implementation of 35 research projects with clinical and omics data centralized in a secure database available for all collaborators on demand. Looking ahead, SCANDARE aims to expand its scope by including additional cancer types and patient cohorts, further enhancing the potential for translational research and personalized medicine in oncology
