The non-transactional consequences of browsing behavior: A quantitative study in the Tunisian context
The objective of this investigation is to understand browsing behavior and to identify the factors that influence it. Based on a review of the literature and a quantitative study carried out by the method of structural equations (SEM) implemented by the Smart PLS.3 software, among 202 Tunisians, we have revealed the non-transactional consequences of browsing. Managerial implications are proposed in order to develop this behavior as it should
PRIORITIZATION OF PROJECT STAKEHOLDERS: AN AHP BASED APPROACH
Prioritization of project stakeholders is inevitable, as all competing demands of stakeholders cannot often be met. In this paper, an Analytic Hierarchic Process (AHP) based model is proposed for prioritization of the stakeholders. This model is based on critical stakeholder attributes and utilizes collective knowledge and wisdom of the project management team. The critical attributes of the stakeholders are identified and AHP is used to arrive at the stakeholder order of priority. How this priority information can improve the project management processes and how this can enable project teams to respond to stakeholders in a coherent manner, has also been explored.
LUNAR PHASES AND STOCK RETURN: INDIAN STUDY
The study aims to understand the lunar phases and its impact on stock return, examining moon related mood swings and investment behaviour. Focus is directed to empirically test the impact of moon phase on stock market return, wherein moon phases are taken as 15 day cycle of new moon and full moon. Stock return was calculated on Stock market index namely BSE Sensex and NSE -Nifty 50 in India. Study confirms that lunar cycle has deep impact on stock market returns for BSE as well as NSE in Indian context. Stock market Investment behaviour specifically, the rate of return on stocks during the 15 days cycle for new moon period exhibit four times the stock market returns as experienced during the 15 days cycle for full moon period
FIRM-LEVEL DETERMINANTS OF INDUSTRIAL R&D: EMPIRICAL EVIDENCE FROM THE INDIAN R&D INTENSIVE INDUSTRIES
This study examines the firm-level R&D determinants of Indian high R&D intensive industries recognized for their historically weak R&D initiatives and global competitiveness. This study intends to use inflation-adjusted financial balanced panel data for 2001–2021 and apply the random effects Tobit model with bootstrapped standard errors. The study has found that stronger intellectual property regime dummy, export intensity, firm size square, and industry dummies for pharmaceutical, automobile, and electronics industries firm's market power and operational efficiency have positively impacted firm-level R&D intensity. In contrast, the negative and statistically significant impact of raw material import intensity and firm size indicates the requirement for planning and implementing appropriate managerial strategies. A bigger firm size does not stimulate R&D investment and offers a competitive edge to the R&D active firms, so managers may think about launching small R&D subsidiaries for innovation building. Policymakers may also focus on improving the outward orientation of the firm by facilitating exports and discouraging raw material imports
CAN HR DEAL WITH PROBLEMS OF DISCRIMINATION THAT ARISE FROM SEXUAL ORIENTATION AND RELIGION?
Since the issue of combating sexual and religious discrimination has long been beyond the scope of purely theoretical discussions and has become practical in nature, it is crucial to study these concepts in more detail, from a new perspective. Discrimination is reflected in many aspects, but restrictions on the rights of a potential (or current) employee and bias are manifested the most acutely at work, in dealing with human resources. Therefore, this study aims to determine whether HR management is effective enough in protecting the rights of the employee. If certain shortcomings are identified, solutions will be proposed. Many pieces of research will not only be analyzed and systematized but also transformed into a kind of methodology that can be used for the prevention of sexual and religious discrimination (it seems unreasonable to limit oneself to stating the existing problem and to occupy the academic “space” without offering solutions). It is hoped that existing gaps will be filled in with new knowledge and the study, in general, will stimulate fruitful scholar accomplishments in the future. Having researched the literature, we identified that the issue proposed for study should be analyzed (and solved) through the prism of various social and behavioral theories, as well as through Freud's theory of group psychology. In addition, the results of the study show that HR management is only one factor that affects the level of protection of employees from sexual and religious discrimination. This element can be effective only in combination with others, which will be reflected in the research
The Impact of Government Response on the US Stock Market during the COVID-19 Pandemic
Although pandemics have occurred with some degree of frequency over the past century, the degree to which social and economic pandemic-related government responses have been used across the globe during the COVID-19 pandemic period has been unprecedented. Using the S&P 500 stock market index return over the period January 2020-June 2021as our dependent variable in a regression-based model, we measure, via a Government Response Index, the extent to which government response impacted stock market returns. We also include the VIX (“fear gauge”), Market Value, Trading Volume, and Price-to-Earnings Ratios to control for other factors that may have impacted the market during the pandemic. Although we found that the VIX was highly negatively correlated with stock market returns during this period, we found very limited evidence of a significant relationship between stock market returns and government response over this time period. Thus, we believe it would be prudent for governments to be more strategic in their approach regarding initiatives if or when a future pandemic should arise, as not all government-related policy initiatives have the intended effect
Strategic Internationalization of Small High-Tech Enterprise from a Small Country: Advantage, Disadvantage and Strategy Development and Implementation
Despite the internationalization of high-tech enterprises from large counties often appearing on the news and in academic journals, small firms from small countries have been ignored. This research brings up a strategic entrepreneurship study focusing on small firms in a small country to fill the research gap. A qualitative method of case study is deployed in this study. The paper argues that small firms have advantages and disadvantages to engaging in the internationalization process through a detailed combined SWOT and Uppsala model analysis. However, extra caution must be taken in setting strategies for markets and partnerships. The paper concludes that cultural distance plays a pivotal role in success, and small high-tech firms must consider cultural norms in the internationalization process
VARIATION IN MANAGEMENTS’ RELATIVE WAGE ACROSS U.S. INDUSTRIES: ITS IMPACT ON MANAGEMENTS’ EMPLOYMENT SHARE AND LABOR PRODUCTIVITY
Recent work in the economic development literature has established sizable variations across nations in the relative wage for management, defined as the average wage for managers divided by the average wage for other workers, and provided evidence that the high relative wage for managers in lower income nations depresses productivity in those nations. This research explores if the same relationships exist solely across industries within the United States using an annual data set of 228 industries for years 2002–2020. As in the development literature, more variation is found across industries in the earnings for all other workers than for management, along with sizable variation across industries in the relative wage for management. Across the 228 industries in any year, the relative wage for management at the 10th/90th percentiles is near 2.0 and 3.2 respectively. Also, a robust positive link is found between managements’ employment share in an industry and the average wage of all other workers which is evidence of complementarity between management and the skill level of other workers in an industry. Lastly, evidence for nonlinearities over the sample period is found in the relationship between the growth rate of managements’ share of employment and labor productivity growth. Industries with lower rates of growth in managements’ share of employment exhibit a negative linkage with labor productivity growth, but this switches to a positive linkage with labor productivity growth for industries with higher growth rates for managements’ share of employment. Potential factors driving this result are discussed
Does Short-dated Options Introduction Mitigate Expiry Day Effects? Evidence from the Introduction of Weekly Index Options
High volatility in the stock market is often attributed to derivative expirations. The National Stock Exchange of India, largest derivatives exchange in the world by number of contracts traded, introduced weekly or short-dated derivatives in Feb 2019 to mitigate the expiration day effects. The study empirically examines the return and volatility data surrounding expiration days during the period before and after the introduction of weekly derivatives. First, for the period before the introduction of weekly contracts, the study gathers empirical evidence suggesting the presence of upward shift in price effects around expiration day and a transitory upward shift in volatility. Next, the study shows with a comprehensive time series analysis, these adverse expiration day effects disappear in the period after the introduction of weekly options. The paper concludes that the weekly, short-dated, contracts fill the gap in the market depth and are beneficial to the over all market welfare. As the weekly options are gaining popularity across the exchanges and investors, the study has important implications to the regulators and practitioners around the world
INFORMATION VERSUS MEASUREMENT SCHOOL IN THE HISTORY OF ACCOUNTING THOUGHTS
What is the economics substance (or core) of accounting? What is the function and value of accounting and accountants in our society? With the development of accounting and scholarly accounting research, two schools of thought emerge and play an essential role in understanding the efficient functioning of accounting, namely the information school and the measurement school. This paper reviews and compares the information and measurement school in the history of accounting thought. Moreover, we propose a third integrated methodology. It might be helpful to have a complete picture of accounting subjects. In the end, some potential research directions are offered as well
