PROSPECTS FOR THE EXISTENCE OF LOCAL BUSINESS SHOPS IN DEVELOPING COUNTRIES
Get PDFDigital technologies are altering the retailing ecosystem for local shops. In developing countries, most of the population is usually dependent on the local shops. The local stores can target more consumers through satisfying customers’ requirements and ensuring last-mile delivery. But with the rising of digital businesses, change in consumer patterns, convenience of online shopping and limited time availability have challenged the survival of such local stores. The research explores various prospects for the existence of local business stores in fast moving developing countries. Based on the literature and consensus of experts, a mind map has been developed in terms of market analysis, government support, digital connectivity, products and services, customers’ perspectives, and social commerce practices to illustrate the possible existence of local business shops. The proposed novel mind map can help policymakers, service providers, investors, managers, regulatory agencies, trade groups and decision makers to focus on initiatives like market analysis, government support, digital connectivity, quality of offered products and services for the existence of local stores along with big e-tailers. 
COMPARING AND CONTRASTING INDIA’S NEP 2020 AND UNESCO'S EDUCATIONAL POLICY USING TEXT ANALYTICS
Get PDFIn the coming decade, India’s ambition to become a developed nation will have to be fuelled and facilitated by the policies adopted by the government of India. These will in turn have social and economic impact. The National educational Policy (NEP) 2020is a policy by the government of India which envisions development of inclusive and accessible education to the masses. This also aims to provide lifelong learning opportunities and processes by introducing flexibility into the previously rigid educational system in India. As part of the global educational ecosystem the NEP 2020 policy in India should also be looking at integrating the global educational policy guidelines. Which has changed from “Education for all to enrolment to learning that is inclusive, equitable, effective and relevant,” as stated in the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4 – Education 2030 Agenda, UNESCO (2017). All the member countries have agreed to integrate lifelong learning into their policies based on their national priorities which will have an impact beyond social and economic development and facilitate sustainable development. In this context this study compares the NEP 2020 policy document to UNESCOs Educational Policy which is an integration of the core concepts and targets of SDG4 using text analytics to identify the trends and to compare the same. The text analytics software used is KNIME which analysed both the documents to give a word cloud for each as well as a count of repetitive occurrence of keywords and collaborative occurrence of certain word sets in each of the documents which helped in the process of grouping and interpretation of the trends
Integrating Trade and Disintegrating Production in Manufacturing Industries: Evidence from APEC and EU Nations
Get PDFNowadays, the bulk of world trade in commodities consists of intermediate goods that play a crucial role in developing production and value. As a result, the global process of production is becoming much more interconnected than ever before. Production fragmentation due to vertical disintegration has profoundly impacted growth in world trade and production by vertical specialization. This study is purported to analyze the vertical integration and international outsourcing of manufacturing firms at the cross-country level. We have calculated domestic and foreign value-added contents in export and output to measure the degree of integration and outsourcing of the manufacturing firms using the World Input-Output Database. Our analysis shows growing backward linkages and global outsourcing in developed countries in APEC and EU regions. Region-wise, we see that high-tech processed intermediate manufacturing like chemicals, pharma, computer, electronics, optical machinery equipment, and motor vehicles have expanded in the developed countries of APEC and EU. Developing APEC has revealed higher linkages in the value chain of low-tech primary products used as intermediaries and processed intermediate goods like food; coke and refined petroleum, basic metal, etc. Among emerging Asia, China has increased its linkages in GVCs in high-tech industries like computers, electronics, optical, electrical equipment, etc
Once an Outlier, Still an Outlier?

Recently, time series momentum has been dubbed, yet there is little research on its performance in Japan. I conduct the first examination of the phenomenon in Japan for a period that had not been studied before: 1920 to 1984. The results show that time series momentum is significantly profitable and demonstrates an interesting pattern: January profits are positive and larger than non-January ones
DECISION ANALYTIC PRICING WITH CONSTANT PRICE ELASTICITIES
Get PDFThis article introduces a new pricing model which uses decision analysis and isoelastic demand functions. Using the methodologies discussed here will enable companies to choose prices that will maximize the profit of a given product based on the state of the economy. An exponential utility function is used to incorporate the risk attitude of the company. The use of the model is demonstrated through a case study on 2018 Chevrolet Malibus. The proper use of the model will “take the guesswork out” of the pricing decision and help companies make pricing decisions using the best available data
THE ROLE OF EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE IN CONFLICT MANAGEMENT STYLE ADOPTION
Get PDFThis study investigated the influences of different levels of emotional intelligence on the choice of conflict management styles. A sample of employees working in multinational organizations located in Egypt completed the questionnaires. Results demonstrated that individuals with high levels of emotional intelligence prefer the competing style of conflict resolution more frequently than the other styles. Participants reported near averages of using the other styles of conflict management, however, no significant associations were found between these styles and levels of emotional intelligence. These results contradict the argument that Arab and Middle Eastern employees prefer the avoiding conflict resolution style in handling interpersonal conflicts in the workplace
Diminishing Research Quotient: Does Capital Availability and Labor Productivity Crowd out R&D Productivity?
Get PDFThis research documents the diminishing research quotient proposed by Knott and Vieregger (2018) from 1975 to 2015. In the United States, per dollar increase on the research and development (R&D) activities expenditure generated 0.09 in 2015. Presented in this paper is the argument that the decline in R&D elasticity of revenue is due to the crowding out results of ineffectiveness of innovative activities at the low-capital cost stages, but not because of the higher labor productivity at the stages of high unemployment rate. Firm innovative activities are more productive when the cost of capital is high, but easier access to capital brings lower revenue created by the R&D inputs. The function of capital and innovation on a firm’s output is mutually substitutable to an extent, but the function of labor productivity cannot be replaced by engaging innovative activities

Integrated Product Design and Development: Lessons Learned from Lean Manufacturing Practices
Get PDFThis article aims to establish potential relationship between lean manufacturing (LM) practices and integrated product design and development (IPDD). Comparisons of several critical factors show high degree of resemblances between the two methods. Several hypotheses regarding the relationships between factors for the two methods were developed and tested. Survey data strongly supports the hypotheses regarding similarities between the LM and IPDD methods. Statistical results also indicate compared with conventional companies, by utilizing IPDD, lean manufacturing organizations are able to design and develop products with better quality, less development time, higher frequency, and lower development and manufacturing costs
Voluntary Simplicity: A New Consumption Mode Motivated by Responsible Behavior
Get PDFIn this study, our aim is to understand the motivations which explain the behavior of the followers of voluntary simplicity; a new postmodern movement. A quantitative study was conducted with 310 voluntary simplifiers. The results showed that simplifiers, known for their ethical stands, are distinguished by non-materialistic behavior, self-sufficiency and they defend the idea of recycling practices. It is therefore obvious that this segment of voluntary simplifiers could arouse the interest of Marketers, who should think of establishing a Marketing Mix adapted to the needs and expectations of this type of consumers
