    Chatbots in Cybersecurity: Enhancing Security Chatbot Efficacy through Iterative Feedback Loops and User-Centric Approaches

    International audienceChatbots are of continuous importance in our interactive lives. Although used in several domains, there are questions about its security assurance; therefore, there is a need to know its capabilities, limitations, and challenges in cybersecurity. The research explores the use of chatbots in enhancing cyber defences and their potentials. It examines chatbots’ current applications in cybersecurity, including IT services, information protection, and user education. Furthermore, the research proposes implementing an Intelligent Chatbot Security Assistant (ICSA) model on WhatsApp to detect and respond to cyberattacks based on user conversations and identifies the challenges with this implementation. To address these challenges, it suggests incorporating enhanced privacy measures, real-time monitoring, rigorous evaluation and validation, and concludes with user-centric design principles using iterative feedback. This research provides valuable insights into the use of chatbots in cybersecurity, their current level of research and implementation as a cybersecurity tool, and directions for future research

    International audienceThe DEPOSE (DEPollution model-based System Engineering) method is designed for the decontamination of industrial sites. The method uses Model-Based System Engineering (MBSE) to structure, design and manage these complex projects. The approach takes into account factors such as the diversity of pollutants, the nature of the soil, deadlines and costs, while integrating the expectations of stakeholders. A case study presents a concrete application on a polluted industrial site.La méthode intitulée DEPOSE (DEPollution model-based System Engineering) s'inscrit dans le cadre de la dépollution de sites industriels. Cette méthode s'appuie sur l'Ingénierie des Système Basée sur les Modèles (MBSE) pour structurer, concevoir et piloter ces projets complexes.     International audienceEn 1994, Lima de Freitas, Edgar Morin et Basarab Nicolescu affirmaient que « la visiontransdisciplinaire dépasse le domaine des sciences exactes par leur dialogue et leur réconciliationnon seulement avec les sciences humaines mais aussi avec l'art, la littérature, la poésie etl'expérience intérieure. » Dans cet esprit, la recherche - création peut être définie comme unedémarche qui articule la recherche scientifique et la recherche artistique pour explorer les relationsentre les humains et leurs environnement, vivants et non vivants, via des méthodologies aboutissantà la co - production de connaissances et de créations. Elle peut avoir une portée transformatrice dansla mesure où elle réconcilie cognition - le sens - et sensibilité - les sens, ce qui conduit à être touchéet qui permet de restituer la complexité du réel (Blanc et Legrand 2019).En 2022, au sein du GT « Transdisciplinarité » du RZA, est née l’idée que le dialogue artistes –scientifiques - acteurs des territoires pouvait être fécond pour rapprocher savoirs scientifiques etsavoirs locaux, et pour co-construire une représentation partagée des socio-écosystèmes, enarticulant d’autres formes d’intelligence avec celle communément mobilisée en sciences. Endécembre 2023, une première résidence Art - Sciences a été organisée à Alès réunissant 23participants provenant de 6 zones ateliers (ZABR, ZABRi, ZATU, ZAL, ZAA, ZAPYGAR). Cette rencontrea montré (i) le potentiel de la recherche création pour dépasser les frontières disciplinaires et méthodologiques et créer des passerelles vers d’autres formes de recherche sur les systèmes socio-écologiques ; (ii) affirmer son rôle de médiation (Davallon 2004) et de sensibilisation des publics surles enjeux socio-écologiques mais aussi pour acquérir des données de recherches ; et (iii) avoir uneportée réflexive, politique et transformatrice en s’appuyant davantage sur la dimension sensible desrelations socio-écosystémiques, en écho aux travaux de Latour (2021).Un deuxième atelier sera organisé les 10 et 11 septembre 2024 pour co-construire un projet communet concret, à portée transformative, visant à mettre en œuvre, au sein des zones ateliers, des espacescommuns de co-création et co-gestion des projets art – science - société et des méthodes pour« sentir - penser » (Escobar 2018) « avec » les socio-écosystèmes. L’opportunité d’inscrire ce 2èmeatelier dans une dynamique locale de Laboratoire Vivant (partenariat entre l’UMR G-EAU, le CIRAD,l’UMR Espace et IMT Mines Alès) permettra un dialogue avec les habitants, les artisans et les artistesdu territoire de la ZABR autour de l’habiter avec l’eau.Au travers de cette communication, nous souhaitons rendre compte de la trajectoire de ce réseauémergent « arts & sciences » au sein des zones ateliers et de ses premiers résultats

    International audienceThis paper explores the integration of Discrete Event Simulation (DES) and Virtual Reality (VR) technologies, focusing onJaamSim and Unity. By combining the strengths of both, we aim to enhance simulation capabilities across various domains. Theintegration leverages the High-Level Architecture (HLA) IEEE standard to address interoperability and synchronizationchallenges. This approach mitigates resource consumption issues seen in traditional methods that rely on extensive datatransfers, which are dependent on network and server performance. Our integrated system provides an immersive and interactiveenvironment that improves user engagement and decision-making. It allows trainees to better understand complex processesthrough hands-on VR experiences and enables decision-makers to visualize the impacts of different strategies in real-time. Thisapproach maintains a constant rate of messages per client cycle, irrespective of the simulation length, unlike previous methodsthat heavily depended on the process duration

    Nitrous oxide provided during intensive physiotherapy for shoulder adhesive capsulitis does not improve function: A randomised controlled trial

    International audienceBackground: There is no consensus on treatment for adhesive capsulitis of the shoulder. Physiotherapy is often used to increase range of motion but individuals may experience pain during mobilisation. Objectives: The objective of this study was to determine whether rehabilitation under N2O for shoulder AC improved pain and function more than rehabilitation alone (with placebo gas). Method: A randomised, 1:1 parallel arm, double-blind study in 4 university hospital outpatient centres. Adults with adhesive capsulitis for at least 3 months with intact cartilage were included. Participants were randomised in blocks of 4 and stratified by centre to receive 20 sessions of intensive physiotherapy over 10 days; the 10 morning sessions were performed with either nitrous oxide (intervention) or sham gas (placebo). Primary outcome: improvement in shoulder function at day 14 (D14) (Constant-Murley score). Results: Seventy-five participants were included, and data from 69 were analysed: 37 in the placebo group and 32 in the intervention group. Improvements occurred in both groups after the intervention. No significant difference in the Constant-Murley score was found between groups at D14 (median score increase of 12.0, IQR 5.6; 19.5 points in placebo group vs. 13.7, 5.2; 18.2 in the N20 group, p = 0.78). Pain score during sessions reduced in the intervention group from the first to final session (-11.6, p = 0.053) but not for the placebo group (-4.2, p = 0.414). Seven serious adverse events were recorded, 4 in the intervention group and 3 in the placebo group, with 11 minor adverse events only in the intervention group (mostly shortness of breath). Conclusion: Nitrous oxide gas associated with intensive physiotherapy for shoulder adhesive capsulitis did not improve function, pain or quality of life more than physiotherapy alone. zHowever, pain experienced during physiotherapy sessions appeared lower.     International audienceThe circular economy’s requirements are now driving up the use of recycled polymers. Nevertheless, these recycled polymers are often used through downgraded applications (1). This work aims to design high-performance recycled HDPE to replace virgin polymers in technical applications (e.g. housing, cables, urban furniture) which need highly fire-resistant materials. Various flame-retardant systems have been studied in literature. In particular, intumescent flame-retardant (IFR) system combining ammonium polyphosphate (APP) and polyamide 6 (PA 6) is known to be very effective for polyolefins (2). Furthermore, a variety of nanoparticles were assessed as synergistic agents in IFR systems (3).The current study examined the effects of an IFR system combining APP and PA6 on the fire behavior and mechanical properties of virgin and recycled PE. In addition, the effect of POSS nanoparticles as a synergistic agent (4) was also evaluated

    A round-robin study on the tensile characterization of single fibres: A multifactorial analysis and recommendations for more reliable results

    International audienceIn this benchmark, the tensile properties of three types of organic fibres – flax, hemp and aramid − were determined using single-fibre tensile tests performed by nine research groups. Flax and hemp were chosen due to their prevalence among European fibre plants. Aramid was selected for its synthetic nature and comparable dimensional properties. Due to the morphological complexity and variability of plant fibres, the scatter in the apparent tangent modulus and strength is more pronounced for flax and hemp compared to aramid. The primary source of scatter in the tensile properties results from human factors and experimental procedures, particularly regarding the fibre selection, the measurement of the fibre cross-sectional area and of the tensile strain. The post-processing procedure also turns out to be a key factor. Finally, recommendations and guidelines for best practices are proposed to reduce the main sources of dispersion associated with the reproducibility of single fibre tensile tests
