Biofouling on cementitious materials: Durability challenges across different exposure zones in marine environments
International audienceInvestigating the durability aspect associated to biofouling on cementitious systems in marineenvironments is crucial. The presence of micro- and macro-organisms in seawater createsfavourable conditions for the colonization of different cementitious systems, furthercomplicating their performance over time. Therefore, this study investigates the influence ofbiofouling on plain concrete and reinforced concrete (RC) using CEM I and CEM V cement typesin submerged and tidal exposure zones of a marine environment, Banyuls-sur-mer, France.Irrespective of the cement type, the microstructural analysis of submerged concrete revealed thedevelopment of biomineralized serpulid tubes on its surface. With respect to RC systems, bothwith and without galvanic anode cathodic protection (using aluminium anode) in the tidal zone,the half-cell potential (HCP), mixed potential, and protection current were continuouslymonitored upto 95 days. Furthermore, the effect of biofilm and water levels were assessed. Thecorrosion characteristics of embedded reinforcement in concrete were affected due to thephysical barrier effect of biofilm (developed on concrete surface). This effect was observed in theaverage protection current of cathodic protected RC systems before and after biofilm removal.Building upon these findings creates synergy in developing ecologically durable cementitioussystems that increase ecosystem functionality and strengthen infrastructure resilience
Development and Restoration Trajectory of a Low‐Energy River: The Case of the Vistre, a Coastal River in the South of France
International audienceThe lack of attention paid to low-energy watercourses, particularly at the academic level, complicates the design, implementation, and evaluation of their ecological restoration. This article examines the case of the Vistre, a river in southern France, and its rehabilitation, based mainly on remeandering. Such interventions provide an opportunity to question the results-oriented obligations of the European Water Framework Directive to achieve “good ecological status” of watercourses, while leaving the methods to be used to the judgement of the managers. Based on historical archival research and interviews with stakeholders involved in the management of the Vistre, we trace its anthropization trajectory and identify three different management regimes since the early 20th century. The succession of these regimes allows us to show how this trajectory, leading to the Vistre rehabilitation, is shaped by ambivalent relationships with nature and technology, rather than by an awareness of linear ecological degradation. We conclude by discussing the value of action in cases of incomplete restoration and the importance of monitoring and dialogue between the spheres of fundamental design of ecological restoration and its implementation
Digital twins in nuclear medicine: A proposition of a modular pipeline for dosimetry protocol optimization in molecular radiotherapy
Corrigendum : https://doi.org/10.1016/j.csbj.2025.09.024International audienceIntroduction: Digital twins (DTs) are emerging tools for simulating and optimizing therapeutic protocols in personalized nuclear medicine. In this paper, we present a modular pipeline for constructing patient-specific DTs aimed at assessing and improving dosimetry protocols in PRRT such as therapy. Materials & Methods: The pipeline integrates three components: (i) an anatomical DT, generated by registering patient CT scans with an anthropomorphic model; (ii) a functional DT, based on a physiologically-based pharmacokinetic (PBPK) model created in SimBiology; and (iii) a virtual clinical trial module using GATE to simulate particle transport, image simulation, and absorbed dose distribution. Validation metrics include SSIM and DICE for registration quality, and MSE for PBPK model fitting with clinical quantification data. Results The anatomical DT module has been successfully implemented and validated on clinical data, demonstrating its ability to generate realistic, patient-morphed phantom for image-based dosimetry. The modular design allows for individual validation and reuse of each component, enabling stepwise development and integration. This architecture offers a strong foundation for evaluating dosimetry protocols and allowing multi-center standardization efforts in the future. Conclusion: This pipeline introduces a modular and adaptable DT framework to support protocol optimization in radionuclide therapy. As validation progresses, it holds strong potential for future use as a predictive tool for absorbed dose estimation prior to therapy, enabling safer and more effective personalized treatment planning

On the Automated Processing of User Feedback
International audienceUser feedback is becoming an increasingly important source of information for requirements engineering, user interface design and software engineering in general. Nowadays, user feedback is largely available and easily accessible in social media, product forums or app stores. Over the last decade, research has shown that user feedback can help software teams: (a) better understand how users are actually using specific product features and components, (b) faster identify, reproduce and fix defects, and (b) get inspirations for improvements or new features.However, to tap the full potential of feedback, there are two main challenges that need to be solved. First, software vendors must cope with a large quantity of feedback data, which is hard to manage manually. Second, vendors must also cope with a varying quality of feedback as some items might be uninformative, repetitive or simply wrong. This chapter summarizes and pipelines various data mining, machine learning and natural language processing techniques, including recent Large Language Models, to cope with the quantity and quality challenges. We guide researchers and practitioners through implementing effective, actionable analysis of user feedback for software and requirements engineering
Toward Adaptive MLOps : Variability Mapping and Modeling
National audienceMLOps knows a growing diversity of pipelines, characterized by varying structures, tools,and execution strategies. While this flexibility supports a range of use cases, it also intro-duces significant variability, which poses challenges for standardization and reuse. To ad-dress this, we explore Software Process line (SPrL) paradigm to manage variability acrossfamilies of pipelines. Our research investigates the landscape of variability in MLOpspipelines, using a Systematic Mapping Study of 21 primary papers, we categorize MLOpsvariability into 6 categories and derive modeling requirements to represent them. We thenpropose a modeling approach following those requirements
Environmental contamination by metals, metalloids, and cyanides in the historic and active ASGM area of Kokumbo in Côte d’Ivoire
International audienceIn Côte d’Ivoire, despite an intense development of artisanal and small-scale gold mining (ASGM) activities in thelast two decades, the environmental impacts of this activity are poorly documented. This study aimed to documentthe concentrations of geogenic and exogenous contaminants potentially released by ASGM (metals and cyanides) indifferent sources (ore, mining wastes) and environmental compartments (soils, surface and ground waters, sediments) inthe Kokumbo area, part of the Au-rich Birimian greenstone belt. Alluvial ore material is enriched in various metal(oid)s (As, Co, Cu, Cr, Fe, Mn, Ni, Sb, and V) compared to the average composition of the upper continental crust whileother metals (Cd, Pb, Ti, Zn) show no geochemical anomalies. High Hg concentrations were found in cyanidationresidues (up to 8.32 mg/kg) and sediments (up to 20.4 mg/kg) compared to unprocessed alluvial ores (0.06 ± 0.01 mg/kg) indicating that Hg used in amalgamation is the source of Hg contamination. Cyanidation residues contain up to100 mg/kg of total cyanides but generally less than 3% are in the form of free cyanides, the most mobile and toxicform. Arsenic concentrations in water are low (< 2.5 μg/L) despite its relatively high content in sediments and soils(76 ± 54 mg/kg), showing a low mobility of As, likely due to its adsorption on iron oxy(hydr)oxides. Apart from Mn,metals have low dissolved concentrations in water except in a stream draining a cyanidation site suggesting that thecyanidation effluent discharge may contribute to metal dispersion in rivers
Changes in physical activity, sedentary behaviors, and associated motivation after multidisciplinary rehabilitation program for chronic low back pain patients
International audiencePhysical activity (PA) is recommended as a primary treatment to reduce pain and improve function in chronic low back pain (cLBP). However, adherence to PA guidelines and the limitation of sedentary behavior (SB) remain challenging for cLBP patients. While some studies focus on PA promotion, past results are mixed, and the role of SB has not been thoroughly investigated. This observational study aims to assess changes in PA and SB levels among cLBP patients participating in a rehabilitation program (RP) and explore related changes in both explicit and implicit motivational factors. Patients wore an accelerometer for 1 week before the RP (T1) and 3 months afterward (T4) to measure PA and SB. At the start (T2) and at the end (T4) of the RP, we measured motivation, including implicit attitudes, toward these two behaviors. Between T1 and T4 ( n = 33), the results show a significant decrease in SB. Between T2 and T3 ( n = 62), all motivational variables were significantly more in favor of an active lifestyle, but implicit attitudes did not significantly change. This study shows that an RP can transform behavior determinants and reduce SB but is less efficient to increase PA levels. It also emphasizes the need to work with patients to enhance adherence and objectively measure behaviors in the future
Pollution by polar pesticides and pharmaceuticals and risk assessment in surface water bodies along the French Mediterranean coast: Complementarity of target and non-target screenings
International audienceAnthropogenic activities are the source of a wide range of organic micropollutants (OMPs) found in all water bodies. Among them, pharmaceuticals and pesticides are the most found in watercourses and their impacts on non-target organisms have already been documented. Pesticides are well monitored in the river-lagoon continuum with their integration into the European water frame directory (WFD). However, their presence may co-occur with pharmaceuticals from wastewater treatment plants discharges in watersheds. Their monitoring and risk assessment is an important knowledge gap in the WFD strategy. In this study, we used polar organic chemical integrative samplers to assess the concentrations of pharmaceuticals and pesticides (parent compounds and transformation products) in water bodies of the French Mediterranean coast and to assess environmental risk during late spring-early summer. Internal concentration of pharmaceuticals in mosquitofish was assessed to evaluate fish pharmaceutical burden. A non-target screening method was used to complementary describe OMPs cocktail in water. Twenty-nine pharmaceuticals and 12 pesticides were quantified using a targeted approach. Six pesticides and 23 pharmaceuticals were further detected using a non-target screening. Pharmaceuticals concentration and associated environmental risk were higher than pesticides ones in mixed-used watersheds, although their risk assessment was limited by the low number of ecotoxicological data available for pharmaceuticals. Six pharmaceuticals were found in fish tissue, increasing potential biological impacts for this trophic level. This study highlighted the importance of monitoring concentrations of pharmaceutical products in the environment and increasing the ecotoxicological testing effort to improve risk assessment
