Être ou ne pas être l'échinoderme <i>Ophioderma longicaudum</i> (Bruzelius, 1805) tel est le point à vérifier dans l'extrême nord de sa distribution atlantique
National audienceA brief historical analysis is provided about the brown brittle star Ophioderma longicaudum (Bruzelius, 1805), recently collected from the sea-shores of Oléron and Ré islands; and not mentioned for more than 150 years in the Pertuis Charentais Sea (SW France). Its naming process about a former cryptic species complex was an edifying textbook case of a zoological ‘nomenclature nightmare’ hesitating between generic versus specific nomenclature, strict application of the zoological nomenclature code and difficulties to share confirmed zoological information. The current state of knowledge on O. longicaudum, which is an Atlanto-Mediterranean warm-water species showing northwards range, is based on an integrative approach combining taxonomy history, morphology, reproductive biology and molecular genetics. Until further genetic confirmations, as already carried out for Arcachon and Basque Coast populations, all specimens collected from North Biscay to the English Channel should be named Ophioderma cf. longicaudum.Un court historique critique est présenté sur la dénomination de l'échinoderme Ophioderma longicaudum (Bruzelius, 1805) récemment revu sur les estrans des îles d'Oléron et de Ré après plus de 150 ans sans mention dans les pertuis Charentais. Cette dénomination est un édifiant cas d'école des difficultés de la taxinomie, dans le cas d'un complexe d'espèces aujourd'hui quasi résolu, louvoyant entre usages historiques, strictes applications du code de nomenclature zoologique et aléas de la diffusion de l'information scientifique. L'état actuel des connaissances sur O. longicaudum, espèce Atlanto-Méditerranéenne en expansion vers le nord, s'appuie sur une approche intégrative alliant histoire des sciences, morphologie, biologie de la reproduction et génétique. En attente de validations génétiques, comme établies pour la baie d'Arcachon et la côte Basque, les nombreuses populations du Nord Gascogne jusqu'en Manche devraient être dénommées Ophioderma cf. longicaudum

User-Centric and Community-Based Microservices Placement for Energy Efficiency
International audienceThe growth of IoT and connected devices has increased demand for low-latency, energy-efficient processing across the Cloud-Fog-Edge continuum. While microservices enable scalable distributed computing, their placement remains challenging due to dynamic resource needs and interdependencies. This work proposes a graph-based microservice placement approach using user-centered local community detection. By integrating user nodes, our method adapts to shifting demands and resource availability, reducing energy consumption and communication overhead. Additionally, strategic mutualization and controlled duplication further enhance efficiency while preserving response time and resource constraints. Our results highlight the effectiveness of user-centric strategies in achieving scalable and sustainable deployments, reducing energy consumption by approximately 50% compared to state-of-the-art global methods while slightly improving deployment time

Sur la trace de Marco Polo, lors de la Grande Découverte, plus encore le commerce, la Religion fait voyager les Européens vers le Pays de la soie. La fin du 17e siècle voit le départ des premiers Français vers l'Empire du Milieu. En 1685, Louis XIV envoie en Chine six missionnaires jésuites, tous parés du titre "Mathématiciens du Roi". Ceux-ci s'introduisent à la Cour impériale et découvrent peu à peu la langue et la civilisation. Ils transmettent ainsi les techniques et le savoir entre Versailles et le Palais Impérial. Leurs écrits inondèrent bientôt les tables des penseurs européens de ce Siècle des Lumières pendant lequel des philosophes tels que Leibniz (1646-1716) en Allemagne et Voltaire (1694-1778) en France, parlèrent de la Chine ainsi que sa langue, en revanche, il y avait assurément un "fossé" entre la Chine vue par les missionnaires et la Chine telle qu'elle était réellement
The plastisphere: a comprehensive description of geographic and temporal community patterns across the Mediterranean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean
International audiencePlastic pollution is a global ecological threat, not only as physical debris but also as a novel substrate hosting microbial communities, known as "plastisphere". Polymer type (virgin vs. recycled), combined with environmental variations, may influence both early and mature colonisation stages. While biogeography has been identified as a key driver of the plastisphere community structure, prior research often relied on isolated studies with no methodological standardization or on opportunistic sampling. Here, this study stands out by conducting a simultaneous and harmonized investigation across environmentally distinct sites in the Mediterranean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean. Three polymers (LDPE, PP-PC, PLA) were incubated in situ, across six locations. Using standardized protocols and eDNA metabarcoding (16S and 18S rRNA), we assessed how biogeography, environmental variables, polymer type, and exposure time shape the diversity and composition of prokaryotic and eukaryotic communities colonizing plastics. Incubations lasted up to one year, with sampling at 7, 30 and 90 days, covering all four seasons. Microbial colonization in all plastics occurred within 7 days, but community richness and maturity fluctuated across sites and seasons. Proteobacteria, Bacteroidia and Planctomycetes were the dominant prokaryotes, while Ciliates, Cercozoa and Dinoflagellata dominated eukaryotes. Taxa with potential for plastic biodegradation (e.g., Oleibacter, Alcanivorax) and pathogenicity (e.g., Pseudomonas, Candida), were identified, highlighting the plastisphere’s ecological role. This dataset represents the most comprehensive assessment of marine plastisphere diversity to date, allowing the understanding of species occurrence and their interaction, influence on ecological processes and the emerging health risks, which should be considered when developing global strategies to mitigate ocean plastic pollution
