Public and private investments and economic growth in Ghana and Kenya.
A general conception is that investment induces economic growth, but there is still debate over which type of investment contributes more to economic growth. The disaggregation of investment into public and private components allows estimation of the impact of the two types of investments on economic growth. This research, therefore, empirically estimates the relationship between each investment component against economic growth by constructing panel data for Ghana and Kenya from 1991 to 2022. The empirical strategy adopted in this study can be divided into three major stages. First, the LLC unit root test in the panel series is undertaken. Second, if integrated in the same order, a Kao co-integration test is conducted. Finally, if the series is co-integrated, the vector of cointegration in the long run is estimated using the dynamic ordinary least squares (DOLS) method. Our estimation results, based on the panel cointegration approach confirm a long-run relationship between the study variables. Further analysis shows that public investment can promote economic growth in the long run. In contrast, the results indicate that private investment can obstruct growth. The study has shown that private investment did not always increase economic growth in Ghana and Kenya. Therefore, policymakers should focus on creating a favourable investment climate, providing fiscal stimulus and promoting public-private partnerships to enhance infrastructure development and stimulate private -sector investment, which can sustain long-term economic growth
The contribution of analytical procedures in supporting corporate governance: A field study in Algeria
This study aimed to shed light on the contribution of analytical procedures (APs) to supporting corporate governance. This was achieved through a field study in which a questionnaire was created and disseminated to a random sample of external auditors in Algeria. The data collected underwent analysis using the SPSS. The study concluded that APs play a crucial role in bolstering corporate governance by analyzing the company\'s continuity capability and identifying financial problems facing the companies. In addition, APs enhance the quality and efficiency of external auditing, especially considering auditing as one of the key mechanisms that support corporate governance
DISCOVERING SOURCES AND APPROACHES IN FINANCING HACKATHONS
This study explores the diverse sources and approaches to financing hackathons, aiming to compare financing models for hackathons, emphasizing the influence of event type on various strategies. Employing an ethnographic approach, the research identifies three primary financing strategies-challenge-oriented, community-oriented, and profit-oriented and six key sources, including sponsorships, community contributions, self-funding, grants, investments, and registration fees. The findings reveal that aligning financing with hackathon objectives is essential for the overall performance of the event. Challenge-oriented hackathons require dedicated budgets, community-oriented ones rely on local support, and profit-oriented events must balance financial goals with inclusivity. Sponsorships and partnerships emerge as the most versatile funding method. The study underscores the importance of combining multiple financing sources to ensure resilience and stability. It contributes to the academic understanding of hackathon financing and offers practical insights for organizers, sponsors, participants, and policymakers, aiming to enhance the effectiveness and impact of hackathons in fostering innovation and collaboration
DOES THE DEFINITION OF THE COST OF CONSUMER CREDIT ACCORDING TO THE REGULATIONS SUPPORT CREDIT DECISIONS? : RESULTS OF INDIVIDUAL IN-DEPTH INTERVIEWS WITH EXPERTS
According to the regulations in force, including in Poland, loan institutions must disclose the costs of consumer credit. However, these costs can be presented in many ways. By conducting in-depth interviews with experts, we analyse whether the way in which the applicable regulations are imposed supports the credit decisions of the average consumer. Experts\' statements show that the regulatory solutions currently in use may deliver far from what is expected. AER, annual effective rate (RRSO in Poland), the key measure of the cost of consumer credit introduced in Poland by the provisions of the Consumer Credit Act, is very ambiguous and, in the opinion of experts, in many cases distorts the actual cost of credit, thus making it difficult for consumers to make rational credit decisions. The conclusions of the study may be of significant importance both for institutions regulating the consumer credit market and for entities operating on this market
Jan Łukasiewicz and His German Ally.: A History of Łukasiewicz-Scholz Cooperation and Friendship
The article presents interpersonal relations and mutual influences between German logician Heinrich Scholz and Polish scholars, first of all Jan Łukasiewicz. The background for presenting these relationships consists of reflections on the development of logic in Poland and various conceptions of how to apply logic to philosophical issues. Firstly, Jan Łukasiewicz’s program of logicisation of philosophy and his search for allies is presented. Secondly, the forms of cooperation between Łukasiewicz and Scholz, as well as contacts between the latter and other Polish scholars are sketched. Finally, forms of Scholz’s help to Polish friends during the tumultuous period of World War II are examined. The article provides also some reflections on the approach to logic in various European centers of analytic philosophy and historical comments on the continuity of philosophical and logical schools

OLENA ZELENSKA’S ENGAGEMENT ON INSTAGRAM DURING THE FIRST YEAR OF THE AGGRESSION OF THE RUSSIAN FEDERATION AS A TOOL OF UKRAINIAN SOFT POWER. CASE STUDY
This study examines Olena Zelenska’s media engagement during the first year of the war, with her Instagram profile as an example of building Ukrainian soft power. Analysing the thematic categories of Instagram posts used to build Ukrainian soft power, published by the First Lady of Ukraine on Instagram during the first year of Russian Federation’s aggression against Ukraine, i.e., from February 24th, 2022 to February 24th, 2023. Methods: qualitative analysis of content, media discourse analysis method. The contents of Olena Zelenska’s posts on her official Instagram profile during the first year of the war can be considered a tool for building Ukrainian soft power. Zelenska uses it to convey values such as freedom, truth, concern for the children and women caught in the war, but also by showcasing the highlights of the broadly defined Ukrainian culture and showing the state policy in the context of the war, but most importantly, to convey faith in Ukrainian victory. Zelenska uplifted her compatriots, brought them hope, while asking the leaders of other countries for aid. She did not enforce anything or give any orders (i.e., did not use hard power), but rather used encouragement and emotion, and lead by example, thus enticing others to share her values (soft power). The results of the study show how Instagram can become an important tool for building soft power by engaging important actors on state level
POLISH HOUSEHOLD DEFAULT RISK AND PHYSICAL RISK OF CLIMATE CHANGE
This paper aims to assess the level of credit risk (from the perspective of default risk) among Polish households associated with the physical risks of climate change. In order to determine the potential impact of the physical risk of climate change on household credit risk, we conducted CAWI interviews with 1,006 borrowers residing in different Polish voivodeships (to account for heterogeneity of credit exposures to extreme weather events). According to these respondents, wildfires and storms in Poland are the greatest source of physical risk of climate change. In the event of a wildfire or storm, approximately 13% of borrowers would not be able to repay their loans while not being insured, which potentially increases banks’ credit risk and exposes banks to losses. However, we find that households underestimate the credit risk that could arise from a drought.
THE EFFECTS OF GLOBAL RISK INDICATORS ON THE MSCI EMERGING MARKETS INDEX
The rising uncertainty in financial markets in the last 40 years has led to the creation of new financial indices that will enable these uncertainties to be defined and measured. For this purpose, the first volatility index created was the VIX Index as an indicator of uncertainty in the stock markets, which was followed by the OVX Index as an indicator of uncertainty in the oil markets and the GVZ Index as an indicator of uncertainty in the gold markets. These volatility indices are also called “global risk indicators”. The MSCI (Morgan Stanley Capital International) Emerging Markets Index, which is the dependent variable of the study, is an index that is frequently followed by fund and portfolio managers in international markets and used as a benchmark. Therefore, in this study, the relationship between the MSCI EM Index and the global risk indicators for the period 28.03.2011-25.03.2022 was examined by the Toda-Yamamoto Causality Test. Afterwards, impulse-response and variance decomposition tests were applied to the variables. As a result of the study, causality relationships from global risk indicators to the MSCI EM Index were determined.
