    Get PDF
In this article we try to understand the structure and dynamics of the Polish VOD market. An analysis of VOD consumption data provided by Gemius shows that Polish VOD market consists of both global and local players offering international and local productions. The number of viewers has flattened over time suggesting that in the future there will be less room for organic growth and the competition will likely shift to persuading users to spend more time watching videos by multiple attempts to make the library more sticky and interesting. The results of an additional technical analysis suggest that the top player is also the most technically advanced one and provides best experience, which might have an impact on the market performance

In the face of a worsening climate crisis and growing consumer awareness of the negative effects of over-consumption, the packaging industry faces the challenge of transforming itself towards more sustainable solutions. Labelling and well-planned production processes that can effectively promote environmental values that benefit both the producer and the environment play a crucial role in this process. Working with experts from other industries involved in creating goods, designers can shape informed and mature visual messages emphasizing the importance of responsible design decisions. No full text
This study investigates whether the ratio of long-term investment to total assets, the ratio of cash on hand to total assets, and the ratio of price-to-earnings are risk indicators for bank failures. Silicon Valley Bank (SVB), Signature Bank, and Silvergate Capital Corp., which experienced bank failure, and banks that are among the 20 largest banks in the USA are analyzed with the panel data method. Analyses were made using quarterly data between 2003Q4 and 2022Q4. It is revealed that the long-term investment to total assets ratio increases the bank failure risk. The risk of bank failure varies negatively with the cash on hand to total assets ratio. Bank failure risk rises as the price-to-earnings ratio rises. In terms of revealing the factors influencing the risk of bank failure and possible consequences, it is expected that the findings obtained could contribute to the literature

    Get PDF
Transfer pricing (TP) is based on many principles – the essential one is the Arm´s Length Principle (ALP). In this respect, the term “associated persons” is of crucial importance: associated persons must be involved in transactions in order for the ALP to be applied. The aim of the paper is to contribute to existing comparative analysis of TP rules – specifically, to provide a critical analysis of the term “associated persons” as prescribed by domestic law in Brazil, the Czech Republic, and Latvia. The key goals of the research conducted were to provide a comprehensive picture of the variety of definitions, to indicate relationships between international law and domestic law, and last, but not least, to highlight various concepts of the term “associated persons” and to identify problematic aspects connected with the interpretation of the definitions and the applications of the related rules. The study, which is based on qualitative research, is exploratory and interpretative in its nature. Its results present a background for further research and point to the fragmentation of law on TP with respect to the investigated issue. On the basis of the results of the comparative study one can conclude significant differences among, and fragmentation in, the definitions of the term “associated persons” both in respect of the number of categories established and in respect of the absence of the autonomy of the definitions of the term “associated persons” as provided by public law (especially by income tax acts). At the same time one can conclude the same position regarding the application of double tax treaties in all the countries for which the study was carried out

CAN WE PREDICT HIGH GROWTH FIRMS WITH THE FINANCIAL RATIOS?

    No full text
This study attempts to predict high growth firm (HGF) status with financial ratios. Measures related to the firm’s effectiveness in using assets to generate profits, EBITDA margin, debt ratio, equity-to-debt ratio and return on assets are associated with HGF status. While the financial ratios improve HGF prediction, prediction remains modest (AUC = 0.627). This study suggests it is difficult to assume a very good HGF forecast from only financial ratios; therefore, the recommendation for researchers and policymakers building models for predicting HGFs is to incorporate non-financial ratio variables, like the intangible innovation and team-related variables. Finally, study suggests a standardized reporting of prediction performance metrics in the out-of-sample and out-of-time simulation for HGF prediction studies.&nbsp
