Philosophy and Logic in a Time of War
Get PDFThis interview was given by Yaroslav Shramko (b. 1963), professor of the Department of Philosophy and rector of the Kryvyi Rih State Pedagogical University (Ukraine). His main research interests lie in the fields of logic and analytical philosophy. He has carried out several projects on modern non-classical logic: 1996–1998, within the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation Fellowship at Humboldt University inBerlin (Germany); 1999–2000, within the Fulbright Program at Indiana University in Bloomington (USA); and 2003–2004, as a Wilhelm Bessel Awardee at Dresden University of Technology (Germany), among others. He has been a frequent invited speaker at international conferences and congresses. He is a member of the editorial boards of several international logic journals, such as Logic and Logical Philosophy (Torun, Poland), Bulletin of the Section of Logic (Łódź, Poland), European Journal of Mathematics (Springer), and Studia Logica (Springer). Prof Shramko is the author of “Truth and falsehood: An inquiry into generalized logical values” (Springer, 2011, joint work with Heinrich Wansing) and a number of articles on logic and analytic philosophy in peer-reviewed international journals
The Devil’s Triangle: Empirical Evidence from Turkey on Growth, Current Account Deficit, and Inflation
Get PDFDetermining the existence of the relationship between economic growth, current account deficit, and inflation will guide the selection of policies to be implemented. The distortions that may be caused by the policies to be preferred can be minimized by the measures to be taken if the relations are known. From this point of view, this study is a metaphorical study emphasizing the Bermuda Triangle, which caused unexplained losses due to the name given to the study. In the study, to determine the existence and direction of the relations between the variables, Turkey’s annual growth, current account deficit, and inflation data for the 1974–2020 period were taken and subjected to various analyzes. In this study, carried out from this point of view, to determine the existence and direction of the relations between the variables, the annual growth, current account deficit, and inflation data of Turkey for the 1974–2020 period were taken and subjected to various analyzes. Augmented Dickey-Fuller (ADF) (1979, 1981) and Philips-Perron (PP) Unit Root tests (1988) and Lee- Strazicich Unit Root Test (2003) were used for stationarity tests. Regression was used since the variables were determined to be stationary at the level and cointegration could not be obtained. The current account deficit changed by 0.181812 units in the negative direction as a result of a one-unit rise in growth, according to the regression analysis (GDP). Furthermore, it has been shown that if inflation increases by one unit, the current account deficit moves in the positive direction by 0.042096 units. Toda Yamamoto Causality Analysis (1995) was used to investigate short-term causality links, and as a consequence, a two-way relationship between GDP and inflation, one-way from GDP and inflation to current account deficit was discovered
Exploring Peace Journalism Practices in Reporting on the Israel-Palestine Conflict
Get PDFThis research examines the application of peace journalism principles in the coverage of the Israel-Palestine conflict during the period of 2023–2024, a time marked by renewed tensions and global attention. Drawing on Johan Galtung’s framework, the study evaluates how major international news outlets, including The New York Times, The Guardian, Al Jazeera, BBC News, and Haaretz, report on the conflict, focusing on criteria such as the emphasis on peace initiatives, avoidance of demonization, use of multi-perspectivity, avoidance of victimization language, and use of de-escalation language. Through content analysis of 200 articles, the study reveals significant variations in adherence to peace journalism principles across different news outlets and temporal phases of the conflict. While BBC News and The Guardian demonstrated strong adherence to peace journalism principles, Al Jazeera exhibited lower adherence in certain areas. The findings underscore the challenges and potential of implementing peace journalism in conflict reporting and highlight the role of educational initiatives in promoting balanced and constructive media representation. Overall, the study contributes to the discourse on media ethics and the role of journalism in conflict zones, providing insights to inform future reporting practices and promote understanding and reconciliation

The study assesses the effectiveness of social media in public health campaigns, scrutinizing its utilization, impact on diverse populations, and the persistent hurdles of misinformation and digital literacy gaps. Employing qualitative content analysis, this research scrutinizes selected public health campaigns from renowned organizations like the CDC, WHO, and UNICEF, spanning from January 2021 to December 2022. Through thematic coding, the study uncovers nuanced insights into engagement dynamics, sentiment distributions, and the prevalence of misinformation across various social media platforms. Key findings underscore the multifaceted nature of social media’s impact, revealing differential engagement patterns, sentiment dynamics, and misinformation challenges. Notably, campaigns leveraging visually engaging formats and fostering community engagement exhibited higher efficacy in driving behavior change. Trust emerged as a cornerstone of effective communication, emphasizing the importance of credibility and transparency in campaign messaging. Moving forward, this research advocates for tailored strategies to combat misinformation, optimize content visibility, and evaluate the enduring impact of social media-driven public health campaigns on health behaviors. By addressing these imperatives, stakeholders can harness the full potential of social media to advance public health agendas and foster informed societies

THE DYNAMIC RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN BTC WITH BIST AND NASDAQ INDICES

Consequently, analyzing these instruments has become imperative. In particular, investors are inclined to compare new investment opportunities with well-established global stock markets, seeking to capitalize on theiradvanced financial literacy. This study aims to employ econometric analysis to explore the dynamic relationship between Bitcoin and the BIST100 and NASDAQ 100 indices. The time framefor this investigation spans from January 1, 2017, to March 10, 2022. Stationarity was confirmedthrough unit root tests (ADF, PP, KPSS, ZA, FADF, and FFFFF ADF) for the subsequent utilization ofAutoregressive Conditional Variance Models. Additionally, Generalized Autoregressive Conditional Variance and Dynamic Conditional Correlation Tests were conducted. Results from theDynamic Conditional Correlation Test model revealed no statistically significant dynamic conditional correlation between Bitcoin and BIST 100. Conversely, a negative and significant dynamicconditional correlation emerged between Bitcoin and NASDAQ 100. Investors should not onlymonitor the market but also review academic studies before making investment decisions. Inthis regard, this study holds significant importance. The subject of poverty and its consequences is often omitted in the discussion of sustainable development, or simplified only to social issues, yet it is an important aspect of economic development and implementation of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The study will cover the problem of poverty in Poland, together with the assessment of the potential of implementation of sustainable development goals in terms of poverty eradication, as well as the issue of the impact of social policy activities on SDGs (named as ‘no poverty’) and household finances, both closely related to the risk of poverty. To achieve the aim of the study the authors use statistical data describing the issues of poverty and changes in this area in the period between 2010 and 2020 (or the most up-to-date data available) based on data from the Central Statistical Office in Poland

No full textThe thesis deals with usury and illegal lenders both on the domestic scene and abroad. The usury itself is defined by its characteristics, by adjudication and by historical connotations. The historical definition begins in Mesopotamia and ancient Rome, basically since the emergence of money. The aim of the paper is a comprehensive overview of usury, which from the legal perspective is not precisely defined as a term and the thesis tries to find such a definition with the help of case law and interpretation. The characteristics of usury that are described in the thesis are distress, the presence of a weaker party, mental weakness, and a gross disparity of performance. The thesis also describes the history of loan sharks and usury in the United States, where violence plays a considerable part in the issue. The paper also deals with the social background of usury and illegal lenders in the United Kingdom and outlines possible solutions to eradicate these phenomena in financially disadvantaged communities. In the end the thesis attempts to find unifying characteristics of usury across history and said countries
FACTORS DRIVING E-LEARNING ADOPTION IN PALESTINE: AN INTEGRATION OF TECHNOLOGY ACCEPTANCE MODEL AND IS SUCCESS MODE
No full textOne of the most significant changes in the field of education in this information age is the paradigm shift from teacher-centered to learner-centered education. Along with this paradigm shift, understanding of students’ e-learning adoption behavior among various countries is urgently needed. Despite being one of the many countries that are still at the early stages in implementing e-learning, Palestine is a country that has recently seen an expansion in the number of students and the quality of education, which has involved high investment in e-learning. Hence, studies in this area of research interest have yet to be made known within the field of education. This study attempted to address the disparity within the literature for an individual country, Palestine, on the significant influences towards adopting e-learning. A model that investigates the effects of quality features, perceived ease of use, perceived usefulness on the intentions and satisfaction of the learners towards the effects of e-learning is proposed in this study. This model encompassed the constructs and variables embedded in TAM and ISSM along with instructor quality. The outcomes of the model, such as actual use and the moderating effect of technical support towards e-learning in Palestine, were investigated. The study proposed that the quality of the course, instructor, service and system as well as perceived usefulness determined the satisfaction among students in use e-learning
USAGE OF PUBLIC FINANCIAL SUPPORT SERVICES, ENTREPRENEURIAL ORIENTATION AND SME PERFORMANCE: THE CASE OF MALAYSIA
Get PDFSMEs have received much recognition as they continue to be the backbone in the development and economic growth of nations. This study intended to investigate how the entrepreneurial orientation moderates the relationship between the utilization of the financial support services and the firm’s performance. This study used Structural Equation Modeling to evaluate the impact of financial support services on SME performance. The sample for this study involved SMEs in Malaysia. The result indicates that financial support services significantly associated with the firms’ performance and entrepreneurial orientation failed to influence significantly the relationship between the usage of the services and the performance. The findings of this study could be useful for the government business support services providers to enhance further the quality of services and will provide an understanding of how effectively the characteristics of SMEs related to entrepreneurial orientation would help increase the effectiveness of the support services
