2010-12 Identifying Strategies and Beliefs without Rationality Assumptions
Department of Economics, Working Paper Series, no. 2010-12. 27 pages.In this paper we formulate a solution concept without making assumptions about expected utility maximization, common knowledge or beliefs. Beliefs, strate-gies and the degree to which players are expected utility maximizers are endoge-nously determined as part of the solution. To achieve this, rather than solving the game from the players’ point of view, we analyze the game as an “observer” who isnot engaged in the process of the game. Our approach is an information theoreticone in which the observer utilizes an observation of play and the Maximum En-tropy principle. We compare our solution concept with Bayesian Nash equilibrium and offer the entropy ratio test as a method for determining the appropriateness of common modeling assumptions. We also demonstrate that the QRE concept can be significantly generalized when viewed from the observer’s perspective. For games of incomplete information we discover that alternative uses of the observer’s information lead to alternative interpretations of rationality. These alternative in-terpretations of rationality may prove useful, especially in the context of ex postarbitration, as they indicate who is motivating whom
Social Security and privacy for social IoT polymorphic value set: a solution to inference attacks on social networks
Published in: Security and Communication Networks, Volume 2019, Article ID 5498375, 16 pages.Social Internet of Things (SIoT) integrates social network schemes into Internet of Things (IoT), which provides opportunities for IoT objects to form social communities. Existing social network models have been adopted by SIoT paradigm. The wide distribution of IoT objects and openness of social networks, however, make it more challenging to preserve privacy of IoT users. In this paper, we present a novel framework that preserves privacy against inference attacks on social network data through ranked retrieval models. We propose PVS, a privacy-preserving framework that involves the design of polymorphic value sets and ranking functions. PVS enables polymorphism of private attributes by allowing them to respond to different queries in different ways. We begin this work by identifying two classes of adversaries, authenticity-ignorant adversary, and authenticity-knowledgeable adversary, based on their knowledge of the distribution of private attributes. Next, we define the measurement functions of utility loss and propose PVSV and PVST that preserve privacy against authenticity-ignorant and authenticity-knowledgeable adversaries, respectively. We take into account the utility loss of query results in the design of PVSV and PVST. Finally, we show that PVSV and PVST meet the privacy guarantee with acceptable utility loss in extensive experiments over real-world datasets

Morphine-induced taste aversions: A consideration of parameters
Published in: Physiological Psychology, 1978, Vol. 6 (1), 96-100.Following consumption of saccharin, groups of rats were injected with various doses of
morphine sulfate. Although no aversion was found after one conditioning trial, repeated
saccharin-morphine pairings resulted in decreases in consumption of the saccharin solution.
On the average, however, the groups of rats showed only a moderate aversion, independent
of the dose of morphine. Although there was little variability in consumption among rats
that received the smallest dose of morphine, there was considerable individual variability
among subjects receiving the larger doses. The differences between morphine-based condi-
tioned taste aversions and aversions based on emetic USs were discussed

Doral skin color patterns among southern right whales (Eubalaena australis): genetic basis and evolutionary significance
Published in: J Hered., 1999 Jul-Aug, 90(4), pp.464-71.Distribution and inheritance of dorsal skin color markings among two populations of southern right whales (Eubalaena australis) suggest that two genes influence dorsal skin color. The grey-morph and partial-grey-morph phenotypes (previously known as partial albino and grey-blaze, respectively) appear to be controlled by an X-linked gene, whereas the white blaze appears controlled by an autosomal gene (recessive phenotype). Calving intervals, calf size, and length of sighting history data suggest that partial-grey-morph, white-blaze, and black cows experience similar levels of reproductive success. Grey-morph cows (XgXg) are rare or absent in the two populations, but this was not unexpected given observed population frequencies of grey-morph males (XgY) and partial-grey-morph females (XGXg). The proportion of partial-grey-morph calves produced by black cows (XGXG) suggests that the reproductive success of grey-morph males was equal to that of black males, however, larger sample sizes are required to determine whether grey-morph males tend to have shorter sighting histories. The reproductive success of white-blaze males appeared similar to that of black males among whales off Argentina. There were significantly fewer white-blaze calves than expected off South Africa, which could be due to white-blaze males experiencing reduced reproductive success or to sighting blases that result in white-marked calves being misidentified as black calves. The relative frequencies of both types of dorsal color markings varied between the South African and Argentinian right whale populations, suggesting limited nuclear gene flow between these populations; analyses using other nuclear markers are under way to confirm the extent of gene flow
