Foreign banks in Croatia: another look
After a period of entry mainly through greenfield investment, foreign banks purchased several
of the largest Croatian banks in late 1999 and 2000. This paper follows a previous
study completed in early 2000 and reviews the effects of foreign entry on the Croatian banking
market, using the results of written and oral interviews and balance sheet data. The
main findings are that foreign banks have played a major role in increasing competition,
bank efficiency and the quality of banking products and services. In addition, regression
analysis shows that de novo foreign banks founded through greenfield investment have significantly
better asset quality than other banks, and have increased overall lending as
well as lending to households and lending to enterprises more rapidly than other types of
banks
Playing with affections, digitally
Paper presented at the Meaningful Play 2014 conference, Michigan State University, East Lansing, Michigan, United States.Affection games require players to flirt, hug, kiss, or make love to meet their goals. They are games whose core actions are affections. They are bereft of the complex narratives of dating simulations and differentiate themselves via short, situated play. In a society that still aligns digital play with violent play, affection games offer sharp and meaningful contrast. Affection games are the make love, not war experience of a contemporary play. These games afford players the opportunity to kiss their favorite celebrity, flirt their way into hearts, or practice pleasing an intimate partner. As a genre with demonstrable growth between 2010 and 2013, they offer an engaging and growing set of case studies

Published in GJH&GC '16 2016.One of the many challenges facing the growth and proliferation of game jam communities is the ambiguity between game jams and allied activities including hackathons and other high intensity events. This research identifies the distinguishing characteristics of games jams and uniquely identifies the technical, cultural and experimental differences that define the game jam practices. The benefit of such understanding not only supports the continued growth of such act activities, it helps to disambiguate game jam activities from other productive practices
