    No full text
When Saint Augustine wrote the Praeceptum or Rule for the Servants of God, he already knew the famous Letter 22 of Saint Jerome, Ad Eustochium de Custodia Virginitatis. This text provided him with the data on Egyptian monasticism used in the work against the Manicheans, De Moribus Ecclesiae Catholicae. Its date justifies the query if Jerome’s letter influenced the composition of the Augustinian monastic text in some ways. The abundance of corresponding topics dealt with, although not always in the same manner, allows a reasonably positive answer.

    No full text
The decade from 1970 to 1980 was a period of effervescence within the Church, a direct consequence of Vatican II. Also the Order of San Augustine was not alien to these changes, and especially after the Intermediate General Chapter of the year 1968, celebrated in Villanova. The first meeting of the future Organization of the Augustinians of Latin America (OALA) would be celebrated in Quito (Ecuador) in the following year, in April 1969. This would be the beginning of a long process of the Augustinian project that would culminate with the meeting of Chile. Various forces, progressive and conservative, have encouraged it during these four decades, which the author describes in great detail. He concludes with a series of observations and recommendations.

From the sixties to the nineties of the past century, different circumstances move the Religious Life to review its own identity inside the ecclesial communion, inviting it to turn back to the sources of the Christian life, to the original inspiration of each Institute and to adapt them to the present time. Always taking the following of Christ as a rule and making the community a seed of renewal and leading a mission called to the total liberation of the human being and of every single man.

In this essay, following the outline of the dimensions of the person- al and existential thing in today’s culture, the author goes back to the Sixth Session of the Council of Trent to investigate the extent to which personal and existential thought patterns were present, or framed the ideas, in discus- sions of the decree of justification. In this first part, the research focuses on discussions and actions of parents and theologians about the first draft decree (‘Cum tuba coeli’). It discusses the “official thinking” and the inter- ventions of those speakers, especially Seripando, supporters of personalistic formulations that took into account the justifying process of existential man of flesh and bone.

    No full text
The topic of divine grace is amply discussed by Cervantes. It makes us more than God, introduces us into the gospels. As graced persons, we are led to Christ, our master, who is meek. Don Quijote preaches this to all who know not to forgive their enemies and want to avenge them. Books, events, encounters, dialogues, good works, all do sow their seeds. Grace is the light of mankind and God’s infinite mercy for it. Perhaps we are today in a better condition than ever to value this Christianity. God is not distant, but present and merciful; is loving Providence, letting each one with one’s own responsibility. In order to orient oneself in life, one does not rely on reason alone. There are also the basic religious beliefs.
