Recapitular en Cristo todas las cosas: Estudio sobre la encarnación en el Libro III del Adversus Haereses de San Ireneo de Lyon
Summary: Defined as “the first great theologian of the Church, the one who founded systematic theology” (Benedict XVI), Irenaeus of Lyons was one of the great defenders of the orthodox faith in the face of the Gnoticism which was burning in the first centuries of Christendom. The result of this effort was the Adversus haereses, a work composed of five books. This article concentrates upon the third book and upon the topic of the purpose of the Incarnation, a question of fundamental importance to the Christian faith. It is divided into three sections: a brief presentation of the context, centred upon Gnosticism, in that this is the adversary against which Irenaeus’ book is directed, an analytical and systematic ‘presentation of the doctrine of the Incarnation, as found in the third book of the Adversus haereses, and, finally, a reflection upon, and an evaluation of, Irenaus’ doctrine on the purpose of the Incarnation, which puts forward, and assesses more deeply, some of the elements characteristic of his doctrine.
Key words: Irenaeus of Lyons, Christian faith, Gnosticism, Adversus haereses, the Fathers of the Church, systematic theology.

Summary: Through a series of passages quoted from Parmenides’ Poem on Nature, Plato’s Apology of Socrates, Philebus, Sophist, and Luigi Scaravelli’s Due Inediti su Platone, the aim of the paper is to show that the general distinction between the sophist and the philosopher can never be given once and for all: the distinction is possible only ‘step-by-step’, as both the forms of correct discourse and incorrect discourse inhere to the very structure of Logos, to thinking itself. This is the reason why the ‘Socratic-dialectical’ task to distinguish between ignorance and wisdom, richness and virtue cannot be accomplished at once, but it presents itself as a habitus in which it is necessary to persist.

L’Agostino di Romano Guardini: Uno studio storico-teologico della formazione agostiniana del pensiero guardiniano tra grazia, conversione e destino
Summary: The present study shows the influence that Augustine of Hippo had in the formation and development of the cornerstones of Romano Guardini’s thought, above all in the themes of grace, freedom and destiny. First, we analyze the reception of the Augustinian notion of grace and its impact upon themes related to prayer and liturgical spirituality. Second, we examine how the concept of freedom, central to Guardini’s reflection, is indebted to the conversion experience (Bekehrung) of Augustine, for whom conversion consists of an existential turning to God the Savior. Finally, we present how the harmonic conjunction of grace and conversion results in the dissolution of poles of tension through the event that surpasses all human expectations: destiny. Instead of a deterministic fatum, Guardini follows Augustine of Hippo in conceiving of destiny as providence, which implies in its historical development the correlative collaboration (concursus) of grace and free will.

Malinconia, polarità ed esistenza in Romano Guardini
Summary: My intention is to show through the writings, and especially through the figures of St. Paul, St. Joseph and Mary, as sketched by Guardini, the existential tension experienced in trying to maintain himself in the faith after his conversion. Every truly creative man lives in the power of the Holy Spirit and has to struggle a lot to keep himself under his power. But if this had not happened in the works of Guardini, they would not be able to speak to us today in the way that they do.

Il Medioevo come paradigma dell’analisi politica di Romano Guardini
Summary: Romano Guardini's political thought is strictly entwined with an idea of community in which communitarian and not individualistic sensibilities flourish; he does not want to replicate the medieval world in this model of community, but he finds in the union of «faith and world», which he considers typical of the Middle Ages, a useful means for avoiding any totalitarian experience in Europe. The Middle Ages, therefore, becomes a political model for contemporary society and a paradigm by which it can be analysed. To refer to this theory, I use the expression: “Newest Middle Ages”.
