Dio e il Male. Charles Journet con Jacques Maritain alla scuola di Tommaso d’Aquino

    Get PDF
Summary: Journet’s theology takes up and develops the essential points of “classical” Thomistic doctrine: evil as the privation of a good that is due, its distinction into three forms (of nature, punishment and guilt), which, after the original Fall, is to be found in man in the forms of the evils of punishment and of guilt. Nevertheless, his thought is not limited to repeating common doctrine, but it has its own distinctive features, which reveal the fundamental preoccupation of the theologian: evil in its relationship with the mystery of God. Here Journet allows himself the support, from the metaphysical standpoint, of the intuitions of Jacques Maritain. Neither of these authors, therefore, simply repeats the positions of Thomas Aquinas, but they proceed along the road opened up by him, carrying out in this way what is progress without rupture: as Piero Viotto specifies it, it is a form of “living Thomism”. Elaborating the Thomistic perspective, they bring into the light the innocence of God, His being extraneous to sin, either directly or indirectly (as established by Thomas).
