WACANA DAN PEMIKIRAN REKABENTUK MASJID
This paper presents an introduction and discussion into some questions with regards to the design of mosque. The main purpose of this writing is to provide a background information to better understand the position of the study on Malay heritage. This paper has four main sections. The first part explains the meaning or understanding of the mosque in Islamic culture. The second part presents the reasons that affect the design of a building's architecture so that those who are not directly educated on the architecture field would understand the exact cause of most architectural designs of buildings that are often thought of as mere architectural or architectural masterpieces. The third part presents the mosque architecture discourse from the design point of view and the fourth and final part presents a specific discourse about the heritage mosque in the Malay World
MEASURING SATISFACTION WITH USER REQUIREMENT RELATED BUILDING PERFORMANCE ATTRIBUTES: A QUESTIONNAIRE
User satisfaction should be the primary concern of the infrastructure development agencies, especially in residential projects. Government residential projects are built with huge expenditure and maintenance of these assets also consumes enormous public funds. The facility maintenance agency remains accountable for the expenditure incurred on these assets to ensure performance. Presently public spending by government agencies lacks effective monitoring post construction especially on maintenance of assets. It makes the government agencies less accountable on their expenditure as also with the procedures/processes followed for maintenance of these assets. There is a need to put an effective system in place to firstly gauge and secondly monitor the performance of all such government assets. Mere expenditure of allotted funds by the end of a financial year cannot be a viable indicator to vouch for the genuineness of spending. The most ideal route to measure its effectiveness is the most important stake holder, viz. the end user. This paper is a part of an ongoing research where the ultimate overarching goal is to develop a conceptual framework to implement an intervention strategy for gauging and enhancing user satisfaction based on user requirement related building performance attributes. This paper deals with development of an instrument necessary to garner feedback on user satisfaction. The content of the questionnaire is based on carefully selected attributes for user requirements that reflect building performance. 84% of an expert group comprising of architects, planners, engineers, facility managers and academia agreed with the grouping and selection of attributes and 73% of them agreed with the need to amplify the attributes in the form of sub attributes for better comprehension of participants. Content, translational and construct validity of the questionnaire developed based on these attributes/sub attributes was also carried out establishing the veracity of the instrument. User satisfaction surveys conducted based on this survey instrument shall enable implementation of effective intervention strategies by FM agencies and also be a measure to establish their efficacy and accountability
The typology of connectivity in landscape architecture: A review of studies on Landscape Connectivity (LC)
Connectivity is an important landscape characteristic that is essential for health, welfare and aesthetic values in human societies as well as for the protection of native ecosystems. Diversity in objectives, approaches, definitions and methods in studies on connectivity and its widespread use in the field of landscape ecology are reasons why Landscape Connectivity (LC) in landscape architecture has been deemed as the counterpart of Ecological Connectivity leading to neglect of other aspects of this comprehensive concept. This study, reviews and classifies studies carried out in the field of landscape with a focus on connectivity in order to achieve a comprehensive definition of LC and its various components in landscape architecture literature. The research method used in this study was quantitative-qualitative. In the first phase, the literature was collected using library research and internet search via a descriptive-analytical approach. Then, an inductive constructionist strategy using Delphi technique was used to classify and categorize relevant studies, and logical argumentation was used to develop the concept of LC in landscape architecture literature. Finally, the objectivist Descriptive/Synthetic Modelling strategy was used to provide a conceptual model of urban landscape connectivity (ULC). The key finding of this study is the researcher-made conceptual model of ULC, its corresponding components and parameters with the viewpoint of landscape architecture
DETERMINING SIGNIFICANT PARAMETERS ON HEALTH AND WELL-BEING OF BUILDING OCCUPANTS TOWARDS RE-ENGINEERED INCLUSIVE ENVIRONMENT
People spend over 90% of their time in the buildings. Building is a place where people are spending more time doing activities, thus an inclusive environment of the buildings is very important to ensure that people are having a healthy life. Inclusive environment is important for the well-being of building occupants. Indoor environmental quality is one of the essential elements in creating inclusive environment in which a poor quality of indoor environmental affects the health of the occupants both physically and mentally, their performance, productivity, comfort, satisfaction, and well-being. Even though people are towards creating inclusive environment but it is limited study on the parameters of the inclusive environment. Thus, this paper is to study the parameters of inclusive environment by focused on the element of indoor environmental quality for building occupants based on literature reviews of articles between the year 2006 and 2016. Based on the content analysis, it has been discovered that there are various parameters of inclusive environment which are visual comfort, thermal comfort, acoustic comfort, indoor air quality, buildings factors, occupants’ factors, and climate condition factors. The parameters can be very useful as guidelines and development of policy in providing inclusive environment for the healthy lifestyle of building occupants.
KAEDAH PENERAPAN IDENTITI SENIBINA KEATAS BANGUNAN TINGGI

A REVIEW OF ENERGY EFFICIENT SYSTEMS INTEGRATED INTO BUILDING ENVELOPES
There is an essential need to reduce energy consumption in building sector as it consumes about 40 percent of the world energy and causes environmental problems. About fifty percent of energy in the building sector is used for heating, cooling and air conditioning purposes. Considering building envelopes as particular building elements with many functions which its energetic function is the most important one influencing building energy consumption, enhancing the thermal and energy efficiency of envelopes would decrease energy consumption of the buildings. Building envelopes contain roofs, external walls which are in touch with the outside environment and the floors on the ground. This paper would review a brief history of envelopes evolution and introduce a categorization for the envelopes based on different strategies for enhancing energetic function. A huge literature review on building envelopes has been done to identify different techniques. The result is summarized in five strategies as energy generation, cooling and heating, sun radiation control, and Thermal moderation and adaptive
THE POTENTIAL OF EFFICIENT WATER MANAGEMENT SYSTEM IN HIGH-RISE DESIGN
Water is a natural gift upon all life forms since the early civilization of mankind and Malaysia is one of the nation that is rich with water resources. Since decades ago, the development in the water sector spurs the social economic growth of this country (Mohd. Azhar, 2000).As time goes by with rapid urbanisation across Malaysia, the demand for water especially in buildings, increase to accommodate a growing population and their needs. Roodman et al. (1995) and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) (Al-Tamimi, 2011) highlight that the World watch Institute estimates building consumption to be at least 40% of the world’s energy and 16% of the water used annually. However, issues like increasing wastages and mismanagement of water leads to a problem towards this resources.Hence, the first part of the paper assesses the issues faced globally and locally towards water resources and the principles of water quality cascade in relation to sustainable water management in buildings. The next part are collective reviews of two selected case studies that include sustainable water management in the respective building design approach. The significant of this paper is to encourage the mind set of designers to contemplate and develop a more efficient water management system in high-rise buildings design as well as the importance for regulatory authorities and consultants to integrate the principles of sustainable water management onto development governing
GREEN ROOFS AND ITS SOCIO-CULTURE BENEFITS IN PENINSULAR MALAYSIA
The contribution of green roofs to pressing environmental issues in urban areas is proven by much research to help mitigate problems like urban heat island effect, storm water runoff, thermal comfort, energy consumption, deterioration of air and water quality as well as loss of habitats. Green roofs also have a significant role to socio-cultural improvements of a place. The objective of this paper is to review the social and cultural benefits of green roofs that have become an increasingly popular architectural feature, particularly in Peninsular Malaysia. The methodology used is via literature and observations. Findings show that research into the behavioural sciences of green roofs is still lacking and further research in the context of Malaysia is pertinent. Keywords: green roofs, socio-cultural benefits, urban public space, urban living
