Functionalized Anti-Cryptophane-A as a Platform for Type II Porous Ionic Liquids

    No full text
International audienceType II porous ionic liquids could be prepared at room temperature by dissolving up to 5 wt% of anti-cryptophane-A derivatives functionalized with alkyl or fluorinated alkyl chains in phosphonium- and pyrrolidinium-based ionic liquids. In this study, we provide the first direct experimental evidence that these molecular cages retain their internal free volume when dissolved in ionic liquids. At 303 K and 1 bar, the porous ionic liquids prepared as solutions of anti-cryptophane-A grafted with a ten-carbon alkyl chain in the ionic liquids [P6,6,6,14][NTf2] (1:36), [P6,6,6,14][DCA] (1:52) and [C1C3pyrr][NTf2] (1:50) absorb 1 3.0, 3.5 and 11 times more methane than the pure ionic liquid, respectively. The solution of anti-cryptophane-A grafted with a fluorinated alkyl chain in [P6,6,6,14][NTf2] (1:73) absorbs in turn 1.8 times more methane than the pure ionic liquid. We show that 97(2)% of the cryptophane dissolved in [P6,6,6,14][NTf2] can encapsulate one molecule of methane, whereas only 60(1)% of the cavities in solid cryptophane are available for gas encapsulation. The presence of permanent porosity in the liquid solution is further supported by controlled atmosphere 1H NMR spectroscopy that allows to distinguish between free and caged methane thus providing molecular-level evidence that the gas is encapsulated in the free cryptophane cavities

Mid-Holocene wet optimum and Early-Late Holocene arid phases shaped steppe-forest vegetation and human societies of Uzbekistan: Multi-proxy evidences from Lake Fazilman

International audienceThe lack of well-dated, high-resolution records from the Uzbekistan piedmont limits our understanding of Holocene climate dynamics, land surface processes, and human–environment interactions in drylands. Although simulations suggest future increased precipitation, models also show considerable discrepancies. In this context, Holocene climate and vegetation reconstructions become crucial to improve model reliability and access climate change consequences on human societies. This study presents the first Holocene-scale, multi-proxy palaeoenvironmental reconstructions from Lake Fazilman, located in the Uzbekistan piedmont area, at the ecotone between steppe and forest.By combining sediment (X-ray fluorescence, magnetic susceptibility, spectrocolorimetry), pollen, non-pollen palynomorphs, functional trait reconstructions and lipid biomarker analyses, we track hydro-climatic variability, vegetation dynamics, and land-use patterns over the past 10,000 years. Based on quantitative reconstructions locally calibrated, climate ensemble model captures both long-term aridification trends and centennial-scale climate events, including two tipping points at 8.2 ka and 4.2 ka BP driving steppe/juniper woodland alternations under moisture control. These climatic fluctuations are assessed in the context of the Bronze Age socio-environmental transition and the spatial overlap of the proto-urban Bactria-Margiana Archaeological Complex and pastoral Andronovo cultural zones.Evidence of early human impact appears after 4000 cal yr BP, marked by disturbance-adapted taxa and geochemical shifts, followed by an increase in pastoral indicators around 650 cal yr BP. Despite a precipitation decline during the Bronze Age, climate alone cannot fully explain the decline of the Bactria-Margiana Archaeological Complex. By combining climate-sensitive proxies and land-use indicators, our findings offer new insights into drylands ecosystem resilience and the vulnerability of past societies, informing future responses to environmental change

Vaulnaveys-le-Haut, Chartreuse de Prémol : Campagne de prospection 2025

    No full text

ON THE FILTERED SPECTRAL ABSCISSA FOR DELAY-DIFFERENCE EQUATIONS AND ITS ROLE IN THE BOUNDARY CONTROL OF HYPERBOLIC PDES

    No full text
Feedback control systems governed by delay-differential equations of neutral type may be fragile, in the sense that arbitrarily small parametric perturbations and implementation errors of the control may destroy the exponential stability of the target closed-loop system. Such instability problems can be resolved by including a low-pass filter in the control loop, on the condition that the filter itself is not destabilizing. The analysis of this condition for delay-difference equations has recently led to the notion of filtered spectral abscissa. In this paper, we first analyze the filtered spectral abscissa, where we remove the stringent condition of commensurate delays previously made, and we derive novel mathematical and computationally tractable characterizations. Second, we highlight the role of the filtered spectral abscissa in the context of boundary control of first-order hyperbolic partial differential equations, grounded in integral transformations that result in delaydifference equation models with both discrete and distributed delays. In particular, we show that in the situation where reflection terms cannot be robustly canceled out by the control -that is, their direct cancellation would lead to a fragile closed-loop system -a negative filtered spectral abscissa of the delay-difference equation, obtained by removing the distributed delay terms, is the necessary and sufficient condition -in addition to the exponential stability of the target closed-loop system -for the safe inclusion of a filter with sufficiently high cut-off

5G-EcoSim: A Simulation Framework for Estimating 5G Energy Consumption Using Real-World Data and Analytical Models

    No full text
International audienceThe definition and deployment of next-generation mobile networks must incorporate considerations of sustainability and environmental impact. In this context, estimating the energy consumption of a mobile network deployment across a city or region is of utmost importance. Nationwide historical aggregate values are informative but do not allow to understand the underlying dynamics or to perform prospective studies. There is hence a need for bottom-up approaches to assess the energy consumption of mobile networks. However, this is a complex task, as it depends on numerous factors, including the number and spatial distribution of base stations, the underlying technologies and their configuration, as well as user demand patterns and their geographic distribution. This paper thus introduces a simulation framework aimed at estimating the energy consumption of 5G networks at urban, regional or national scale. The framework integrates radio propagation models operating in the 3.5 GHz band with publicly available datasets describing user and base station locations, as well as network traffic volumes. As a case study, we consider the 5G deployment in France and examine the spatial distribution of network load and the resulting energy consumption. The source code and datasets are publicly available, ensuring that the simulator is fully reproducible and easily adaptable to other use cases, countries, or regions
