: Instrumentum inscriptum: New Readings and Epigraphic Revisions 2. Signacula with Precise Functions

    No full text
International audienceThis article focuses on the functions of users of signacula, as they can be specified in various abbreviations following the names of servile users, most commonly: servus, procurator, dispensator, arcarius, vilicus, actor, minister, etc. The function of conductor balnei, proposed here for the user of a signaculum from the Liesville collection, may serve to complement this list, which will likely continue to expand in the future.

Riparian forest drought response: from tree to stand, how remote sensing may help?

    No full text
National audienceIn the Anthropocene, global changes have significantly altered ecosystems functioning. Therefore, it is necessary to be able to detect the early cues of any changes in riparian forests to protect them and to limit the detrimental impact on the associated ecosystems functions. However, the early responses of trees to water stress are often ecophysiological responses (decrease of photosynthesis and stomatal conductance, increase of oxidative stress). It is impossible to sample every tree in a forest but the use of remote-sensing technic set on an aerial carrier such as ultralight aviation allows measuring canopy temperature at the stand scale. One of the most suitable methods to assess the health of the forest is the thermal infrared measurement of the canopy with a thermal camera. Indeed, a transpiration decrease, which leads to an increase of canopy temperature is mainly controlled by stomatal conductance and allow trees to limit water loss and to increase their water use efficiency to face the reduced water availability. Therefore, one of the research topics of our group in LEHNA, among others, is to link remote-sensing measurement and tree ecophysiology to monitor riparian forest response to global change

One loop renormalization of 5D gauge-Yukawa theories

    No full text
International audienceThe common lore dictates that extra dimensional theories loose predictive power at energies just above the compatification scale, due to the power-law running of bulk coupling. We show that five-dimensional gauge-Yukawa theories can be valid up to arbitrarily high scales, provided: 1) A finite number of terms are required to absorb power-law divergences; 2) All power-law running couplings flow to UV fixed points. By explicitly computing bulk and localized divergences for a gauge-Yukawa theory on S1/Z2\mathcal{S}^1/\mathbb{Z}_2, we prove the one-loop renormalization properties of Lagrangians containing only interactions that would be renormalizable in four dimensions. The existence of UV fixed points imposes further constraints on the content of the model. Our results provide a consistency check for the high-energy behavior of any 5D theory, and provide a discrimination between UV consistent models and those that can describe only a handful of Kaluza-Klein modes. Hence, we offer the first concrete step towards an all-order proof of `renormalizability' for gauge-Yukawa theories in five dimensions

La cohérence du droit des données

    No full text

Probing scalar and pseudoscalar new physics using rare kaon decays

    No full text
International audienceRare kaon decays provide sensitive tests of new physics. In this work, we focus on scalar and pseudoscalar operators, analysing the Kπ+K\to π\ell^+\ell^- and K+K\to \ell^+\ell^- decays. We highlight the complementary role of different modes: K+π++K^+\toπ^+\ell^+\ell^-, in particular the forward-backward asymmetry in the muon channel as a clean probe of scalar effects, the stringent constraints from KLμ+μK_L\to μ^+μ^-, and the discovery potential of future measurements of KSμ+μK_S\to μ^+μ^- and KLπ0+K_L\to π^0 \ell^+\ell^-. The interplay between charged and neutral modes underscores the complementarity of NA62, the LHCb upgrade, and KOTO-II
