An Enhanced Composite Predictive Framework for UUV Autonomous Docking via Motion Pattern Decoupling

    No full text
International audienceThis paper proposes an advanced composite predictive framework leveraging motion pattern decoupling, designed to enhance the prediction accuracy and computational efficiency of three-dimensional relative distance in autonomous underwater docking operations for Unmanned Underwater Vehicles (UUVs). Initially, the framework employs a velocity discontinuity detection algorithm to partition the original threedimensional trajectory data into kinematic-consistent subtrajectories characterized by uniform motion patterns. Subsequently, integrating Dynamic Time Warping (DTW) with the elbow method, the K-means algorithm is refined to facilitate trajectory pattern clustering and establish distinct pattern category labels. For each motion pattern identified, a customized Gated Recurrent Unit (GRU) predictive model is meticulously trained. During the online prediction phase, real-time kinematic states are extracted through a sliding window mechanism, and the K-Nearest Neighbors (KNN) classifier is adeptly utilized to select the most suitable GRU model for dynamic forecasting. Empirical analyses, grounded in 200 sets of authentic underwater docking experiment data, reveal that this framework markedly surpasses standalone LSTM and GRU models, as well as acoustic-optic sensors, in predictive precision. Furthermore, the single-step prediction latency consistently remains under 17 milliseconds, thus fulfilling the real-time requisites of high-dynamic conditions. This research furnishes theoretical and technical underpinnings for precise UUV docking in intricate underwater milieus

Poromechanics of hydrogels: towards understanding colloidal transport into tissue-on-chip

    No full text
International audienceDrug treatment by blood administration assumes that the diffusion of nanomedicine within the microenvironment (TME) is facilitated by the leaky interface between microvessels and the TME. However, while the efficiency of many of tumour-specific nanomedicines, like oncolytic viruses (OV) was proven in vitro, the clinical impact has remained insufficient, especially in solid tumours, such as in pancreatic cancer, which are stiff, very dense and covalently bonded (cross-linked). Our hypothesis is that this stiff TME is a barrier to the transport of colloidal particles. Therefore, we developed an organ-on-chip that allows the interfacing of a collagen matrix with a pressure controller and sensors to monitor interstitial flows in real time. We injected nanoparticles of various sizes into this microphysiological system and tracked their migration into the matrix upon application of periodic pressure. We observe that transport properties were dependent on the nanoparticle size, matrix density / pore size, and on the matrix cross-linking. Interestingly, we show that transport into the tissues were optimal for nanoparticles of a size comparable to poxviruses (≈200 nm) that could be used for the treatment of pancreatic cancer (PDAC)

Reduced-order Smith predictor for state feedback control with guaranteed stability

    No full text
International audienceThis article deals with the implementation of the Smith Predictor for state feedback control in state space representation. The desired control law, obtained using partial differential equations and backstepping control, contains an integral term that has to be approximated for implementation. In this article, we propose a new way to implement this control law using a dynamic controller. The control law is composed of a state feedback term and a dynamic term that approaches the integral term that has to be estimated for implementation. Using a Lyapunov functional, we provide sufficient conditions, in terms of a linear matrix inequality, to guarantee that the closed-loop system is stable when the proposed control law is applied. We use three examples, taken from the literature, to show the benefits of the proposed approach

A Novel approach to open the world of silica-based AFM probes using selective laser etching

    No full text
International audienceAtomic force microscopy (AFM) cantilevers are indispensable for nanoscale imaging and force sensing of both materials and biological specimens. However, their traditional fabrication methods, which rely on silicon or silicon nitride bulk micromachining, suffer from high costs, low throughput, and limited geometric flexibility [1],[2]. These limitations have driven the development of innovative AFM cantilevers made of silica glass through a novel, cost-effective approach, offering benefits such as chemical inertness, biocompatibility, reduced fabrication time and design flexibility to accommodate a wide range of applications. Our innovative approach involves fabricating cantilevers using selective laser etching (SLE), a subtractive laser technology capable of producing complex 3D glass structures with micron-level precision. The process consists in 3 sequential steps that are i) laser irradiation, ii) KOH etching, and iii) Ti/Au metallization. It begins with irradiating the transparent material with a focused femtosecond (fs) laser beam at 1030 nm, inducing localized modifications. The laser then writes the desired structure spot by spot in three dimensions:Figure 1(a). Following fs Laser irradiation, the irradiated volume is etched in a 10 mol/l KOH solution at 90°C for 5 hours: Figure 1(b). Upon completion, a bi-layer metal deposition wiss performed, consisting in 10 nm of Titanium (Ti) and 30 nm of Gold (Au), for the AFM laser reflection. We fabricated cantilevers with spring constants ranging from 0.08 to 45 N/m, enabling the characterization of both material surfaces and biological specimens. Pyramidal and semi-spherical tips of various dimensions were developed for the tip design: Figure 1(c,d). Using pyramidal tips, topographic measurements were conducted on various calibration gratings Figure 1(e,f). In addition, force spectroscopy and imaging were performed on cells using the semi-spherical tips.[1]F. J. Giessibl, ‘Advances in atomic force microscopy’, Rev Mod Phys, vol. 75, no. 3, 2003.[2]A. S. Nxcap: A Unified Format for NIDS Benchmarking

    No full text
International audienceThis paper introduces Nxcap, a unified network traffic floworiented capture format designed to bridge the gap between descriptive statistics and packet capture files (Pcap) for network intrusion detection systems (NIDS) benchmarking. Nxcap represents network traffic as a collection of flows with associated packets, using a minimal set of features that enable both Pcap reconstruction and the extraction of flow-level descriptive statistics. This format addresses the limitations of existing datasets, which often suffer from inconsistencies, lack of standardization, and errors due to misconfigurations or biases introduced during data collection. We present libnxcap, an open-source library that captures network traffic in the Nxcap format, facilitates flow labeling, and includes mechanisms to verify and correct data at the time of capture. A key contribution is the advanced deduplication engine, which operates at the flow level and accounts for protocol behavior, revealing significant duplication issues in popular datasets like UNSW-NB15. Experiments demonstrate that Nxcap reduces dataset storage requirements by over 98% compared to raw Pcap files, while ensuring data quality and compatibility with existing tools. This work aims to provide the research community with a standardized, efficient, and reliable format for network traffic representation, enhancing the development and evaluation of NIDS

    No full text

Biomechanically consistent real-time action recognition for human-robot interaction

    No full text
This paper presents a novel framework for real-time human action recognition in industrial contexts, using standard 2D cameras. We introduce a complete pipeline for robust and real-time estimation of human joint kinematics, input to a temporally smoothed Transformer-based network, for action recognition. We rely on a new dataset including 11 subjects performing various actions, to evaluate our approach. Unlike most of the literature that relies on joint center positions (JCP) and is offline, ours uses biomechanical prior, eg. joint angles, for fast and robust real-time recognition. Besides, joint angles make the proposed method agnostic to sensor and subject poses as well as to anthropometric differences, and ensure robustness across environments and subjects. Our proposed learning model outperforms the best baseline model, running also in real-time, along various metrics. It achieves 88% accuracy and shows great generalization ability, for subjects not facing the cameras. Finally, we demonstrate the robustness and usefulness of our technique, through an online interaction experiment, with a simulated robot controlled in real-time viathe recognized actions
