    BiOBr-rice husk carbon composite for antibiotic degradation

    International audienceHighly efficient visible light photocatalysts are necessary to address the water pollution caused by antibiotics. In the present study, bismuth oxybromide-rice husk-derived carbon (BiOBr-RHC) composites (with different wt% of RHC) were prepared via a simple solid-state method. Results of the studies indicate that the use of rice husk carbon has a considerable effect on the degradation of the commonly used fluoroquinolone antibiotic norfloxacin (NOR). BiOBr-RHC-10 exhibits the highest catalytic degradation towards NOR under visible light irradiation among the developed composite catalysts. Introducing carbon in the composites provides better separation of charge carriers, thereby reducing the recombination rate of electron-hole pairs. The promising visible-light-driven catalytic activity of the BiOBr-RHC composite makes it a potential candidate for the effective degradation of the antibiotic present in wastewater

    Spectrally refined unbiased Monte Carlo estimate of the Earth’s global radiative cooling

    International audienceThe Earth’s radiative cooling is a key driver of climate. Determining how it is affected by greenhouse gas concentration is a core question in climate-change sciences. Due to the complexity of radiative transfer processes, current practices to estimate this cooling require the development and use of a suite of radiative transfer models whose accuracy diminishes as we move from local, instantaneous estimates to global estimates over the whole globe and over long periods of time (decades). Here, we show that recent advances in nonlinear Monte Carlo methods allow a paradigm shift: a completely unbiased estimate of the Earth’s infrared cooling to space can be produced using a single model, integrating the most refined spectroscopic models of molecular gas energy transitions over a global scale and over years, all at a very low computational cost (a few seconds)

    International audienceThis research focuses on task allocation in a diverse workforce to address the challenges modern companies face in the competitive business environment within the context of Industry 5.0. It examines the potential of Simulation-Based Optimization (SBO) in resolving these issues. Initially, a mathematical model is developed to validate the simulation model’s solution to the optimization problem involving task allocation under deterministic conditions. It then extends its analysis to consider the complexities of stochastic situations while accounting for differences in task execution time. This project aims to identify the mathematical model’s limitations in addressing these challenges and demonstrate the potential of Simulation-Based Optimization as a valuable alternative in considering human behavior

    A novel approach for accurate development of the incremental plastic multiplier and consistent tangent operator in thermo-elasto-plastic modeling of materials

    International audienceIn the present research, new and accurate equations were developed for the incremental plastic multiplier (IPM) and the consistent tangent operator (CTO) to solve numerical problems in thermo-elasto-plastic (TEP) processes using the finite element method (FEM). To ensure accuracy, all material hardening coefficients were treated as temperature-dependent, and no terms and their derivatives in the analytical-mathematical solution were ignored. Two UMAT (User MATerial) subroutines with temperature-independent and temperature-dependent parameters were programmed for the EP and TEP behavior, respectively. Finite element models were created using both the Abaqus® built-in material models and the newly developed UMAT subroutines, designated as the reference and new models, respectively. In the reference model, flow stress was implemented using tabulated plastic strain and temperature data available in Abaqus®, while in the new model, the flow stress (yield function) was derived and numerically calculated based on the developed formulation. The new equations were successfully validated by comparing the results from the new model with those from the reference model. The developed IPM and CTO can be used for accurate predictions of strains, stresses, and temperatures in TEP problems, making them well-suited for industrial applications

    International audienceIn chemical engineering, the difference in composition between two phases, such as between liquid and vapor or between two liquid phases at equilibrium, forms the basis of most separation processes. For instance, notable methods include distillation, liquid-liquid extraction, and supercritical fluid extraction, where the second phase is obtained through the addition of a separating agent (solvent). In mechanical engineering, the design of heat exchangers, compressors, and fluid selection requires information regarding the thermodynamic properties of fluids at equilibrium. In oil and gas engineering, as well as the transportation of natural gas/CO2, thermodynamic properties are also crucial for process design. Experimental data are also essential for developing thermodynamic models and adjusting their parameters, including interaction parameters. These models aid engineers in determining phase diagrams and finding optimal thermodynamic conditions for phase separation, compression, cooling, heating, storage, or chemical reactions

    French Entity-Linking dataset between annotated tweets collected during major crises in France and French Wikipedia corpus

    Dépôt de donnéesInternational audienceMost of the available datasets are not particularly adapted to our target application: geolocate natural disasters from social networks. First, social media posts are largely underrepresented in these datasets, and the only Twitter dataset lacks Entity-Linking annotations. Second, none of the datasets focuses on a crisis or natural disaster event.To mitigate these issues, we extracted a collection of French tweets written during earthquakes and major floods that have occurred in France in recent years. We set up Label-Studio in order to annotate these tweets. A total of 4617 tweets were annotated, including 1678 tweets posted during earthquakes and 2939 during floods. For each annotated tweet, mentions were annotated using the set of labels described earlier in the paper as well as, when possible, the target Wikipedia title.Named “RéSoCIO” in reference to the research project in which it was carried out, the dataset resulting from this work contains a total of 12 828 annotated mentions and 1 513 distinct Wikipedia entities. 85% of mentions were associated with a Wikipedia page and 94 % if we ignore the RISKNAT and DAMAGES labels, which are often difficult to map to an existing entity
