Mass transfer of non-polar heavy hydrocarbons in aqueous phase

    No full text
International audienceLow aqueous solubilities are data of great importance in both industrial and environmental fields. As for the low aqueous solubility, we present the experimental apparatus along with the optimizations and adjustments (mechanical and analytical) applied to measure the solubility of heavy polyaromtics (solubility down to 10-9 in molal). The validation of our apparatus was achieved by measuring the aqueous solubility of the Fluoranthene in a range between 298.15 and 338.15 K. The quantification was done using GC-MS SIM with internal calibration method with benzo(a)pyrene as internal standard. Solubility of dibenz(a,c)anthracene was then explored between 298 and 333 K with an extremely low solubility of 10-12 in molar fraction

Impact du changement climatique sur le développement architectural et la surface foliaire des arbres

[Departement_IRSTEA]Territoires [TR1_IRSTEA]SEDYVINInternational audienceThis paper demonstrate that tree architectural development of is highly dependent on climate variations and accidents, particularly at the level of their branch ramification rate and polycyclism. Similarly, the number, size and life span of leaves on a twig vary annually with the climate. By means of a growth simulator, we show that the deficit of branches linked to climate extremes (scorching heats, strong or repeated droughts) can limit during many years the resilience of tree leaf area, and contribute to their decline or durably limit their growth.

Ab initio investigations of the electronic and magnetic structures of CoH and CoH2

International audienceFirst principles investigation of the structural, electronic and magnetic properties study of cobalt and the hydrides CoHx (x = 1, 2) show significant volume expansion effect versus Co-H bonding. As hydrogen is incorporated in the cobalt lattice, the density of states undergoes gradual modifications within the valence band and particularly near the Fermi level. A resulting strong reduction of magnetization characterizes the dihydride whereas the monohydride is revealed as a strong ferromagnet, like Co

Changes in electronic, magnetic and bonding properties from Zr2FeH5 to Zr3FeH7 addressed from ab initio

    No full text
International audiencePotential hydrogen storage ternaries Zr3FeH7 and Zr2FeH5, are studied from ab initio with the purpose of identifying changes in electronic structures and bonding properties. Cohesive energy trends: Ecoh. (ZrH2) > Ecoh. (Zr2FeH5) > Ecoh. (Zr3FeH7) > Ecoh. (hypothetic-FeH) indicate a progressive destabilization of the binary hydride ZrH2 through adjoined Fe so that Zr3FeH7 is found less cohesive than Zr2FeH5. From the energy volume equations of states EOS the volume increase upon hydriding the intermetallics leads to higher bulk moduli B0 explained by the Zr/Fe-H bonding. Fe-H bond in Zr2FeH5 leads to annihilate magnetic polarization on Fe whereas Fe magnetic moment develops in Zr3FeH7 identified as ferromagnetic in the ground state. These differences in magnetic behaviors are due to the weakly ferromagnetic Fe largely affected by lattice environment, as opposed to strongly ferromagnetic Co. Hydrogenation of the binary intermetallics weakens the inter-metal bonding and favors the metal-hydrogen bonds leading to more cohesive hydrides as with respect to the pristine binaries. Charge analyses point to covalent like Fe versus ionic Zr and hydrogen charges ranging from covalent H−0.27 to more ionic H−0.5

Impact of family involvement in ownership management and direction on financial performance of the Lebanese firms

    No full text
International audienceThe aim of this study is to better understand how family involvement in ownership management and direction affects the financial performance of the Lebanese companies. In order to authenticate our hypotheses, we collected primary data by using a quantitative method. In fact, we performed an inquiry by surveying 75 Lebanese companies through a questionnaire formed by closed and semi-open questions and modulators. While finishing the empirical study, we concluded that family involvement in ownership and management has a positive relationship with the financial performance of the Lebanese company. Moreover, issues like entrenchment and asymmetric altruism did not prove to have a significant relationship with the financial performance. The essential reason to the results previously stated is that family managers in Lebanon act as stewards by considering the success of the company as their own, rather than agents seeking to achieve their personal benefit on the expense of the company

Kernel-based localization using fingerprinting in wireless sensor networks

    No full text
International audienceIndoor localization is an important issue in wireless sensor networks for a very large number of applications. Recently, localization techniques based on the received signal strength indicator (RSSI) have been widely used due to their simple and low cost implementation. In this paper, we propose an algorithm for localization in wireless sensor networks based on radio-location fingerprinting and kernel methods. The proposed method is compared to another well-known localization algorithm in the case of real data collected in an indoor environment where RSSI measures are affected by noise and other interferences
