Modelling of cyclic visco-elasto-plastic one dimensional behaviour of polyamide-based woven strap
International audienceThis study focuses on modelling of mechanical behaviour of threadlike woven materials or shaped in uniaxial form such as wires, ropes, woven lines, cables, straps, slings etc. The proposed one-dimensional model is based on the superimposition of two stress contributions: a non-Newtonian visco-elastic stress and a time-independent stress. The time-independent stress stands for a particular irreversible behaviour, linked to the loading history. This model neglects the thickness of the time independent hysteresis loops during the unloading-reloading processes while preserving the irreversible character of elastoplastic type behaviour. The model's predictions are compared to a set of experimental results, carried out on polyamide 6-6 (PA66) straps. The model describes the shape of the stress-strain hysteresis loops very well and predicts perfectly the direction of the strain or stress evolution during the creep or relaxation periods, regardless of their position in the first load or in the load-unload branches

Myocardial bridging is significantly associated to myocardial infarction with non-obstructive coronary arteries
International audienceBackground: Myocardial infarction with non-obstructive coronary arteries (MINOCA) is a common disorder characterized by the presence of clinical criteria for acute myocardial infarction in the absence of obstructive coronary artery disease on angiography. We aim to investigate the relationship between myocardial bridging (MB) and MINOCA.Methods and results: An observational retrospective study was conducted on 15 036 patients who had been referred for coronary angiography and who fulfilled the Fourth Universal Definition of Myocardial Infarction. The study population was divided into ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) and non-ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (NSTEMI) patients, from which we defined two main groups: the MINOCA group and the coronary artery disease (CAD) group. Statistical analyses were carried out by using SPSS, version 20. The prevalence of angiographic MB among the groups was significantly greater in the MINOCA group (2.9% vs. 0.8%). MINOCA accounted for 14.5% of spontaneous myocardial infarction, and the clinical presentation was more frequently NSTEMI rather than STEMI (84.3% vs. 15.7%). After adjusting for confounders, multivariate analyses showed a positive association between MB and MINOCA [odds ratio = 3.28, 95% CI (2.34; 4.61) P < 0.001]. Cardiovascular risk factors were less common in the MINOCA population, which was younger and more often female.Conclusion: MB is a risk factor for MINOCA. Because MB prevalence differed significantly between the controls (CAD group) and cases (MINOCA group), which were positively associated to MB, it seems likely that MB would be a potential cause of MINOCA. Investigations for MB in MINOCA cases and especially in NSTEMI patients seem necessary
A consensus document on definition and diagnostic criteria for orthorexia nervosa
International audiencePurpose Since the term orthorexia nervosa (ON) was coined from the Greek (ὀρθός, right and ὄρεξις, appetite) in 1997 to describe an obsession with “correct” eating, it has been used worldwide without a consistent definition. Although multiple authors have proposed diagnostic criteria, and many theoretical papers have been published, no consensus definition of ON exists, empirical primary evidence is limited, and ON is not a standardized diagnosis. These gaps prevent research to identify risk and protective factors, pathophysiology, functional consequences, and evidence-based therapeutic treatments. The aims of the current study are to categorize the common observations and presentations of ON pathology among experts in the eating disorder field, propose tentative diagnostic criteria, and consider which DSM chapter and category would be most appropriate for ON should it be included. Methods 47 eating disorder researchers and multidisciplinary treatment specialists from 14 different countries across four continents completed a three-phase modified Delphi process, with 75% agreement determined as the threshold for a statement to be included in the final consensus document. In phase I, participants were asked via online survey to agree or disagree with 67 statements about ON in four categories: A–Definition, Clinical Aspects, Duration; B–Consequences; C–Onset; D–Exclusion Criteria, and comment on their rationale. Responses were used to modify the statements which were then provided to the same participants for phase II, a second round of feedback, again in online survey form. Responses to phase II were used to modify and improve the statements for phase III, in which statements that met the predetermined 75% of agreement threshold were provided for review and commentary by all participants.Results 27 statements met or exceeded the consensus threshold and were compiled into proposed diagnostic criteria for ON.Conclusions This is the first time a standardized definition of ON has been developed from a worldwide, multidisciplinary cohort of experts. It represents a summary of observations, clinical expertise, and research findings from a wide base of knowledge. It may be used as a base for diagnosis, treatment protocols, and further research to answer the open questions that remain, particularly the functional consequences of ON and how it might be prevented or identified and intervened upon in its early stages. Although the participants encompass many countries and disciplines, further research will be needed to determine if these diagnostic criteria are applicable to the experience of ON in geographic areas not represented in the current expert panel.Level of evidence Level V: opinions of expert committee
Epidemiology of Leptospirosis: The First Literature Review of the Neglected Disease in the Middle East
International audienceLeptospirosis is a major zoonotic disease that has emerged worldwide, and numerous studies performed in affected countries have provided epidemiological knowledge of the disease. However, currently, there is inadequate knowledge of leptospirosis in the Middle East. Therefore, we grouped publications from various Middle Eastern countries to acquire a general knowledge of the epidemiological situation of leptospirosis and provide an initial description of the leptospiral relative risk and circulating serogroups. We conducted a detailed literature search of existing studies describing Leptospira prevalence and seroprevalence in Middle Eastern countries. The search was performed using online PubMed and ScienceDirect databases. One hundred and one articles were included in this review. Some countries, including Iran, Turkey, and Egypt, reported more publications compared to others, such as Lebanon, Kuwait, and Saudi Arabia. Frequently, the seroprevalence of leptospirosis varied considerably between and within countries. The prevalence of leptospirosis was comparable in most Middle Eastern countries; however, it varied between some countries. The methods of detection also varied among studies, with the microscopic agglutination test used most commonly. Some hosts were more recurrent compared with others. This review summarizes the epidemiological situation of Leptospira infection in the Middle East, reporting predominant serogroups—Sejroe, Grippotyphosa, Icterohaemorrhagiae, Autumnalis, and Pomona—that were identified in the most commonly tested hosts. Our findings emphasize the need to develop a deeper understanding of the epidemiology of Leptospira spp. and prioritize the disease as a public health problem in this region. To achieve this goal, increased awareness is critical, and more publications related to the topic and following a standardized approach are needed
Consistency of the k-Nearest Neighbor Classifier for Spatially Dependent Data
International audienceThe purpose of this paper is to investigate the k-nearest neighbor classification rule for spatially dependent data. Some spatial mixing conditions are considered, and under such spatial structures, the well known k-nearest neighbor rule is suggested to classify spatial data. We established consistency and strong consistency of the classifier under mild assumptions. Our main results extend the consistency result in the i.i.d. case to the spatial case
Disinfection Procedures and Their Effect on the Microorganism Colonization of Dental Impression Materials: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis of In Vitro Studies
Dental impressions are contaminated with potentially pathogenic microorganisms when they come into contact with patient blood, saliva, and plaque. Numerous disinfectants are used; however, no sole disinfectant can be designated as universal for all the impression materials. Thus, the aim of this study is to systemically review the literature to evaluate the effect of the existing disinfection procedures on the bacterial colonization of dental impression materials. This systematic review and meta-analysis was conducted according to the PRISMA statement. PubMed (MEDLINE), Web of Science, Scopus, EMBASE, and SciELO databases were screened up to April 2021. Eligibility criteria included in vitro studies reporting the antibacterial activity of disinfectant solutions in dental impression materials. The meta-analysis was performed using Review Manager (version 5.3.5). A global comparison was performed with the standardized mean difference based on random-effect models at a significance level of α = 0.05. A total of seven studies were included in the meta-analysis. The included studies described the effect of disinfection processes with chlorhexidine gluconate, alcohol, sodium hypochlorite, glutaraldehyde, and hydrogen peroxide in alginate, polyvinyl siloxane, and polyether impression materials. The meta-analyses showed that the use of chlorhexidine, alcohol, glutaraldehyde, and sodium hypochlorite reduced the colony-forming units by a milliliter (CFU/mL) in alginate (p < 0.001). On the other hand, glutaraldehyde, sodium hypochlorite, and alcohol reduced the CFU/mL in polyvinyl siloxane (p < 0.001). Finally, alcohol and glutaraldehyde reduced the CFU/mL in polyether material (p < 0.001). High heterogenicity was observed for the alginate and polyvinyl siloxane materials (I2 = 74%; I2 = 90%). Based on these in vitro studies, the disinfection of impression materials with several disinfection agents reduces the CFU/mL count
Machine learning techniques on homological persistence features for prostate cancer diagnosis
International audienceThe rapid evolution of image processing equipment and techniques ensures the development of novel picture analysis methodologies. One of the most powerful yet computationally possible algebraic techniques for measuring the topological characteristics of functions is persistent homology. It's an algebraic invariant that can capture topological details at different spatial resolutions. Persistent homology investigates the topological features of a space using a set of sampled points, such as pixels. It can track the appearance and disappearance of topological features caused by changes in the nested space created by an operation known as filtration, in which a parameter scale, in our case the intensity of pixels, is increased to detect changes in the studied space over a range of varying scales. In addition, at the level of machine learning there were many studies and articles witnessing recently the combination between homological persistence and machine learning algorithms. On another level, prostate cancer is diagnosed referring to a scoring criterion describing the severity of the cancer called Gleason score. The classical Gleason system defines five histological growth patterns (grades). In our study we propose to study the Gleason score on some glands issued from a new optical microscopy technique called SLIM. This new optical microscopy technique that combines two classic ideas in light imaging: Zernike’s phase contrast microscopy and Gabor’s holography. Persistent homology features are computed on these images. We suggested machine learning methods to classify these images into the corresponding Gleason score. Machine learning techniques applied on homological persistence features was very effective in the detection of the right Gleason score of the prostate cancer in these kinds of images and showed an accuracy of above 95%
Experimental Study on the Physical and Mechanical Characteristics of Roller Compacted Concrete Made with Recycled Aggregates
International audienceA huge volume of waste is generated by natural and human-made disasters and by rapid urbanization that leads to the demolition of structures reaching the end of their service life. Using recycled aggregates in concrete producing reduces environmental pollution by decreasing the disposal of this waste material in landfills and preserving unreasonable exploitation of natural resources. This manuscript presents the results of an experimental program aiming to study the effect of recycled aggregates on the physical and the mechanical properties of roller compacted concrete (RCC). A Dreux–Gorisse mix design method together with the modified proctor test were adopted to prepare a reference mixture with natural aggregates with three derived mixtures where coarse aggregates were replaced by 50%, 70%, and 100% of recycled aggregates. The physical properties of RCC were evaluated by means of water absorption and gas permeability tests while the mechanical properties were evaluated using compressive, tensile splitting and 3-point flexural tests. The results of physical tests showed that both water absorption ability and gas permeability increase proportionally with the replacement ratios. The results of the mechanical tests showed that the compressive strength class was approximately constant for all developed mixtures at the age of 28 days. For a substitution ratio of 100%, a drop in the compressive strength of only 6% was recorded. The reduction in the tensile and flexural strength was more pronounced than the compressive strength and was about 10% for the mixture of 100% recycled aggregates. It was found that the strength increases with time, and it can be estimated at any age using the analytical models adopted for conventional hydraulic concretes. Based on the obtained results, it was concluded that recycled aggregates up to 50% don’t negatively affect the physical and mechanical properties of RCC
