Dear Joseph,
I heard that tale, and answered point blank, ‘It is mere invention.’ However, I wrote to inquire at the school, so you did well to send a real account both to me and to Ireland.
‘This gives anyone enough of Kingswood School.’ ‘Ah, simple Master Shallow!’ as Shakespeare has it. Should not I then have enough of it long ago? You put me in mind of Sir John Phillips’s exclamation when a puff of smoke came out of the chimney, ‘Oh, Mr. Wesley, these are the trials which I meet with every day.’

Sir,
I received an anonymous letter today which informs me you are displeased at my printing extracts of the Night Thoughts in A Collection of Moral and Sacred Poems.
I am not conscious of having done any wrong herein, either to you or any other person. If you apprehended I had, I should have looked upon it as a favour had you given me any intimation thereof, at any time after my publishing the Proposals for that Collection, and I would immediately have stayed my hand.
All I can do now is this. I am ready to refer the matter to any number of arbitrators. And whatever damage they judge you to have sustained, I will willingly make good. I am, sir

Dear Sir,
I am inclined to think, Mr. [Samuel] Lloyd has hit upon the expedient which (if anything can) will induce Mr. [Noah] Blisson to come to an amicable conclusion. I have wrote such a state of the case as he advised, and hope God will give a blessing to it.
I am much obliged both to Mrs. [Elizabeth] Blackwell and you, on my own and on my wife’s account. She has many trials—but not one more than God knows, and knows to be profitable for her. I believe you have been and will be a means of removing some. If these outward encumbrances were removed it might be a means of her spending more time with me, which would probably be useful as well as agreeable to her.
As the providence of God has called you to be continually engaged in outward things, I trust you will find him continually present with you, that you may look through all, and

And loving Mary’s heart.

No full textCourtney Caldwell (Class of 2000) was interviewed by Valeria Reynosa via the Zoom internet-based video conferencing software on April 25, 2022. Ms. Caldwell was born in California but grew up primarily in San Antonio, Texas, although her family moved frequently due to her father's military service. In her interview, she discusses schools she attended in San Antonio and Nashville, Tennessee, as well as the role religion played in her life from an early age. She graduated from the Texas Military Institute, and was both valedictorian and senior class president. In the summer before her senior year in high school, she enrolled in a continuing education program on the SMU campus, which led her to apply. While at SMU, she studied business and participated in numerous programs and activities, including track and field, ROTC, Honor Council, the Voices of Inspiration gospel choir, and the Association of Black Students. She was also the ABS Homecoming Queen and served as a student representative to the SMU Board of Trustees, and worked two jobs while attending school full-time. In her interview, she talks about her experiences in the Cox School of Business, influential professors she had, and how integral support from her family was in helping her obtain her degree. Ms. Caldwell graduated cum laude with a degree in marketing, and went on to attend the University of Texas at Dallas to obtain her MBA. She has had a long and successful career as a marketing professional and has worked for numerous organizations, and in 2015 founded ShearShare, a mobile app which allows salon and barbershop owners to rent spaces in their shops by the day. At the time of the interview, she served on boards for SMU, UT Dallas, and the Texas Military Institute, and worked as the COO of ShearShare
Shalini Nair Interview
No full textShalini Nair (B.A. 2001, M.B.A. 2010) was interviewed by Sarah Khoja via the Zoom internet-based video conferencing software on August 19, 2022. Ms. Nair was born in Kochi, India and immigrated to the United States with her parents as a young child. She grew up in the Dallas area, and chose to attend SMU after receiving a full tuition scholarship through the President's Scholars Program. In her interview, Ms. Nair discusses her experiences living on campus and balancing her workload as an engineering student with her extracurricular activities. She, along with two other President's Scholars, created the on-campus group Women in Science and Engineering (WISE), which visited local elementary schools to recruit students to visit SMU for different STEM-related events. In her sophomore year, she participated in a cooperative education program and did a rotating internship with Texas Instruments, where she continued to work after graduating. Ms. Nair graduated with a degree in electrical engineering in 2001, and later returned to SMU for a professional M.B.A., which she studied for while working full-time. She graduated with her M.B.A. in 2010, and at the time of the interview worked as a program manager in the Dallas area
