Teresa Acosta Interview
No full textTeresa Acosta (Class of 2022) was interviewed by Sabrina Simien via the Zoom internet-based video conferencing software on October 31, 2022. Ms. Acosta is a first-generation immigrant and was born in Dallas, Texas where she lived with her parents and three siblings. Ms. Acosta attended the Dallas Independent School District and the Dr. Wright L. Lassiter Jr. Early College High School as El Centro College. Ms. Acosta then transferred to SMU in the Spring of 2019 where she earned her B.A. in Biology and Human Rights with a minor in Spanish and History. While attending SMU, Ms. Acosta was the first first-generation immigrant senator on the Student Senate and a member of the Human Rights Council. She was also on the League of United Latin American Citizens at SMU, the College Hispanic American Students, and the SMU Upper Division Community Council. During her interview, Ms. Acosta discusses her upbringing, her experiences on campus at SMU, her personal struggles with pursuing her goals, her future plans, and her desire to help her fellow Latiné students and community. After graduating from SMU, Ms. Acosta moved to Boston, Massachusetts and at the time of the interview, she was pursuing a master's degree in Public Health and Global Health while working as a Program Coordinator for Faculty Development and Diversity for the Department of Medicine at Boston University
