Alison Ramirez Interview
Alison Ramirez (Class of 2020, MBA 2021) was interviewed by Laura Narvaez via the Zoom internet-based conferencing software on June 6, 2024. Ms. Ramirez earned her B.S. in Applied Physiology and Sport Management in 2020 and her MBA in 2021, both from SMU. She grew up in the Dallas area, one of four children of Mexican immigrants. Her mother was a single parent and Ms. Ramirez spent time helping with her little sister. Ms. Ramirez played basketball throughout her childhood until a knee injury ended her sports career. She was very involved in her high school, serving as class president, on student council, and the prom committee. She commented that she was able to get excellent grades in high school without trying too hard, which resulted in a culture shock when she arrived at SMU. She originally wanted to study to become a physical therapist because of the impact her own physical therapist had on her following her injury, but quickly decided to pivot from the science to the business side of sports. She spent most of her free time in undergrad working and was not involved with campus activities, which she regrets. After earning her bachelor's degree during the COVID-19 pandemic, she decided to earn her MBA to give her a solid grounding in business. She was incredibly impressed with the level of support provided to students by the Cox School of Business. After graduating, she worked for sports agency Marketing Arm before moving to the Dallas Mavericks. She is currently leading the Mexico partnerships of the Dallas Cowboys through their corporate partnerships department
