Design Thinking meets ChatGPT – Findings from a Student Project
Since the launch of ChatGPT-3.5 in November 2022, a broad discussion has arisen about how disruptive this new and freely available generation of generative artificial intelligence is. Quite a few users are of the opinion that this form of artificial intelligence can even take on creative tasks and, thus, support innovation processes. To shed more light on the potential of ChatGPT in the innovation process, four interdisciplinary and intercultural student groups worked on the same design challenge as part of a design thinking project. Two of the groups were allowed to use ChatGPT. The other two groups were allowed to note down when they would have liked to access ChatGPT. In addition, the Design Challenge was worked on once by the lecturer and exclusively with ChatGPT. The experiences, strengths and weaknesses of using ChatGPT in the context of Design Thinking are critically reflected in this paper
Promoting workplace-based training to fight youth unemployment in three EU countries : different strategies, different results?
During the economic crisis, youth unemployment grew exponentially in many European countries. It was argued that
countries with a high level of firm involvement in the provision of initial vocational training were better equipped to
address this problem. Boosting workplace-based training
was therefore seen as the right strategy to tackle unemployment. Using Denmark, Spain and the UK as case studies,
this article analyses how countries with different skill formation systems have improved this type of training. While
the UK reinforced the voluntaristic character of its training
regime, Denmark improved the quality of its vocational education, and Spain made reforms to the training and apprenticeship contract. Interestingly, the countries achieved
different results. To explain this divergence, it is argued that
while the reforms made in the UK and Denmark were compatible with the national institutions and coordination mechanisms, this was not the case in Spain, where reforms were
implemented in a non-complementary way
Adapting a dashboard-based approach for feasibility analysis to circular PSS business models
Sustainability and circular economy are currently some of the strongest trends in industry as well as in politics. They are seen as the best chance to tackle emissions, pollution and climate change while
maintaining the prosperity of society. Product-Service System (PSS) business models are seen as an
enabler of the circular economy. However, the development of such business models is a major
challenge, especially for SMEs. Therefore, there is a need for support through a methodical approach in
the development and decision-making. This paper combines and extends an existing approach for
assessing the feasibility of PSS-driven business models and a decision-support matrix for recirculation
strategies to provide support to practitioners in the early development phases of circular PSS business
models. The existing approach for feasibility analysis was focused on PSS only. To include the
perspective of circularity and sustainability a systematic literature review was conducted to identify
necessary criteria. Combined with the decision-support matrix the improved method aims to be a lean
method to support feasibility analysis and decision-making in circular PSS business model development
