    Der Text ist im Buch "Klima- und ressourcenschonende Bauwende: Neuausrichtung an den planetaren Grenzen" erschienen, das das Wissen zu den verschiedenen Facetten des Themas aus dem BBSR (Bundesinstitut für Bau-, Stadt- und Raumforschung), zum Stand der Forschung zusammenträgt. Im Rahmen dieses Kapitels wird beleuchtet, welche Potenziale die Suffizienz - neben der Effizienz und der Konsistenz - als dritte Leitstrategie einer nachhaltigen Entwicklung hat, um den Umweltverbrauch im Bauwesen zu reduzieren und damit den notwendigen Beitrag zur Erreichung der Klimaziele zu leisten

    Global state of knowledge on human-induced sound and vibration events: defining future research directions for mass timber products

    Despite the rise in mass timber buildings globally, challenges remain with timber’s limitations in low-frequency sound and vibration. This is due to timber’s lower density compared to concrete and steel, leading to natural frequencies more susceptible to disturbances from footfall vibrations. This study identifies areas for further research in floor sound and vibration through a combined analysis of practitioner consultations and systematic review. A total of 112 discussions across 13 countries captured varying perspectives from producers of mass timber products through to designers of mass timber structures, as well as researchers of these different approaches. Of those consulted, 75% of producers noted increased mass timber product demand alongside a need for more design data, with 61% of designers and builders facing challenges related to sound and vibration. In addition, 17% of builders reported receiving tenant complaints over sound and vibration-related concerns, with 44% of practitioners noting concerns over sound and vibration performance. Several standards/design guides were analysed and ranked through the systematic review and practitioner consultation finding FprEN 1995-1-1, CCIP-016, and BS 6472-1 to be highly ranked from both analysis approaches. However, there were several cases, where standards ranked highly through the literature analysis approach were not highly ranked through the analysis of practitioner responses. Three under-researched areas were identified: (1) long-span floor systems, (2) the influence of mass timber product material properties, and (3) the undefined relationship between lab and in-situ performance. Furthermore, 71% of practitioners highlighted that the perception of comfort by occupants is under-represented in current research

    In der Studie werden aktuelle Schocks und Risiken in der metallverarbeitenden Industrie untersucht. Die Interviews zeigen: Eine fehlende Digitalisierung, fehlende Netzwerke und nicht passende Unternehmensstrukturen verzögern Reaktionen auf Marktveränderungen. Zudem wurden die Ergebnisse mit der aktuellen Literatur abgeglichen. Die Studie wurde im Rahmen des Forschungsprojekts „Resiplat“ durchgeführt, in dem untersucht wird, wie sich Unternehmen mittels eines digitalen Plattformökosystems für die Zukunft resilienter aufstellen können

    Morphogenesis of the Holocene coastal landforms on Sumba Island, Indonesia

    Coastal terraces, whether erosional, depositional, or bio-constructed, have been widely used to quantify Late Cenozoic vertical deformation and relative sea-level changes. Here, we review and investigate the Holocene coastal terraces of Sumba Island, Indonesia. We describe fifteen coastal sites, evenly distributed between the South and North coasts. The terraces are Holocene age, based on 14C and U/Th ages. We show that the preservation of coastal terraces in Sumba is favoured on the leeward coast (North). Holocene and older Pleistocene coastal terraces are almost absent on the windward coast (South), although modern coral reefs almost ubiquitously thrive. The morphology and the nature of the bedrock varies between the two sides of the island: while sequences of earlier Pleistocene coral reef limestones dominate in the North, Miocene/Pliocene tuffs and pelagic carbonates outcrop on the southern coast. The elevations of the Holocene inner edges range from 2.4 ±0.7 to 6.9 ±0.7 m above the present mean sea level. Despite disparate uplift rates, the three preserved windward terraces (out of the seven sites investigated) generally have a higher inner edge than leeward terraces. We conclude that neither glacio-eustatic oscillations, vertical deformation rates nor hydrodynamics by themselves can explain the variability in inner edge elevations on Sumba, but only a complex combination of these processes. Finally, our study serves as a solid basis for future investigation of the Holocene landforms of the island of Sumba and other similar tropical coastal zones

    Die Institutionalisierung des nachhaltigen Wohnungsbaus – eine Studie über die Entwicklung ressourceneffizienten Bauens aus Sicht des Neoinstitutionalismus

    Die Dissertation untersucht den Prozess der Institutionalisierung nachhaltigen Wohnungsbaus in Deutschland auf Basis der neoinstitutionalistischen Organisationstheorie. Ziel der qualitativ angelegten Studie ist es, die Entwicklung ressourceneffizienter Baupraktiken im organisationalen Feld Wohnungsbau zu analysieren. Anhand von 21 Experteninterviews mit Akteuren aus Bauwirtschaft, Politik und Zivilgesellschaft werden drei zentrale Aspekte beleuchtet: (1) die historische Entwicklung energieeffizienten Bauens unter besonderer Berücksichtigung des KfW-Effizienzhausprogramms, (2) die Charakterisierung von Treibern und Hürden bei der Institutionalisierung nachhaltiger Baupraktiken und (3) die Rollen- und Interessendynamiken relevanter Akteursgruppen. Die Ergebnisse zeigen, dass sich die Institutionalisierung des energieeffizienten Bauens weitgehend mit den Phasen des Modells von Tolbert und Zucker erklären lässt – von der Habitualisierung über die Objektivierung bis hin zur (Teil-)Sedimentierung. Gleichzeitig offenbart sich eine unvollständige Institutionalisierung: Viele Marktakteure agieren nur im Rahmen gesetzlicher Mindestanforderungen. Die Analyse der institutionellen Treiber – wie Emissionshandel, EU-Taxonomie, QNG und DGNB – sowie der Spannungsfelder zwischen „Vorreitern“ und „Verdrängern“ macht deutlich, wie politische und gesellschaftliche Rahmenbedingungen auf die Feldtransformation wirken. Zudem werden technologische und normative Ansätze (z. B. Zirkularität, Suffizienz, Baustoff Holz) und strukturelle Hürden analysiert. Ein dynamisches Modell nachhaltiger Entwicklung im Wohnungsbau verdeutlicht die Wechselwirkungen zwischen Treibern, Diskursen, Aktivitäten und Regeln. Die Arbeit liefert damit sowohl theoretische Beiträge zur Weiterentwicklung des Neoinstitutionalismus als auch praxisrelevante Impulse für Politik, Wirtschaft und Zivilgesellschaft auf dem Weg zur Klimaneutralität im Gebäudesektor

    Optimizing Lentiviral Vector Production: Insights Into PiggyBac Transposase and Concatemeric Array Strategies

    Lentiviral vectors (LVVs) are essential tools in gene and cell therapy due to their ability to transduce both dividing and non‐dividing cells. Conventional production by transient plasmid co‐transfection is variable, costly, and difficult to scale, prompting development of stable producer cell lines. Historically, the GPRTG cell line has been generated using concatemeric‐array integration, which requires high DNA input, complex workflows, and can cause genetic instability. To address these limitations, we evaluated a transposase‐mediated integration strategy. Compared with the concatemeric‐array method, transposase‐based integration enabled faster recovery after selection with only a mild viability crisis and required substantially less DNA. This approach generated highly diverse and heterogeneous producer pools, providing a strong basis for subsequent clonal selection. During LVV production, both methods maintained comparable cell growth stability. However, concatemeric‐derived pools exhibited greater variability in recovery kinetics, viable cell density, and LVV titers, despite achieving the highest maximum titers overall. In contrast, transposase‐mediated pools showed more consistent performance, supporting their reliability for large‐scale applications. In summary, transposase‐based integration offers a robust and scalable alternative to concatemeric‐array methods for generating stable LVV producer cell lines, with significant potential to streamline LVV manufacturing for gene therapy

    Comparison of the Calculated and Measured Vibration Behaviour of Long-Span Timber Floors

    The demand for longer spans in timber floors is increasing steadily. Modern materials facilitated the construction of load-bearing systems, but serviceability concerns, particularly vibration analysis, remain crucial. Current design practises often result in over-designed cross-sections to mitigate perceived vibration issues, although in-situ floors typically surpass the calculations. The complete study aims to analyse up to 50 existing timber floors to empirically demonstrate this discrepancy between theoretical redictions and in-situ performance. By comparing measured data with computational models, this research seeks to refine design methodologies for more accurate vibration analysis, potentially reducing material usage without compromising structural integrity
