This memory deals with the episcopates of the third and fourth bishops of Reunion, from 1872 to 1880. Under the Third Republic, anti-clerical Republicans fight against the influence of the Church in society and want the separation of church and state. Reunion is also undergoing this movement.
Earthquake crisis unveils the growth of an incipient continental fault system
International audienceLarge continental faults extend for thousands of kilometres to form boundaries between rigid tectonic blocks. These faults are associated with prominent topographic features and can produce large earthquakes. Here we show the first evidence of a major tectonic structure in its initial-stage, the Al-Idrissi Fault System (AIFS), in the Alboran Sea. Combining bathymetric and seismic reflection data, together with seismological analyses of the 2016 M w 6.4 earthquake offshore Morocco-the largest event ever recorded in the area-we unveil a 3D geometry for the AIFS. We report evidence of left-lateral strike-slip displacement, char-acterise the fault segmentation and demonstrate that AIFS is the source of the 2016 events. The occurrence of the M w 6.4 earthquake together with historical and instrumental events supports that the AIFS is currently growing through propagation and linkage of its segments. Thus, the AIFS provides a unique model of the inception and growth of a young plate boundary fault system
BEN : An Agent Architecture for Explainable and Expressive Behavior in Social Simulation
International audienceSocial Simulations are used to study complex systems featuring human actors. This means reproducing real-life situations involving people in order to explain an observed behavior. However, there are actually no agent architectures among the most popular platforms for agent-based simulation enabling to easily model human actors. This situation leads modelers to implement simple reactive behaviors while the EROS principle (Enhancing Realism Of Simulation) fosters the use of psychological and social theory to improve the credibility of such agents. This paper presents the BEN architecture (Behavior with Emotions and Norms) that uses cognitive, affective and social dimensions for the behavior of social agents. This agent architecture has been implemented in the GAMA platform so it may be used by a large audience to model agents with a high level explainable behavior. This architecture is used on an evacuation case, showing how it creates believable behaviors in a real case scenario
Developing Multimedia Enhanced Content to Raise HIV/AIDS Awareness to Children
Part 4: Sustainable ICT, Informatics, Education and Learning in a Turbulent World - “Doing the Safari Way”International audienceIt is estimated that more than two-thirds (70%) of all the 35 million people living with Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) in the world are in Sub-Saharan Africa. Tanzania as one of the country in sub-Sahara region is no exceptional, more than 60% of all new HIV infections in Tanzania occur among young people. While almost all children in Tanzania aged 15 years and below have heard about HIV/AIDS, less than half have enough knowledge to protect themselves against infections. It is known that HIV/AIDS is taught in primary schools, although majority of the pupils demonstrated a very low level of knowledge about HIV/AIDS. This raised a concern on the effectiveness of HIV/AIDS and life skills education in primary schools. Information and Communication Technology (ICT) has a great potential for HIV/AIDS education to children because they like and enjoy to use ICT resources for entertainment, learning, networking and communication. Hence, it is important to apply technology for educational in teaching HIV/AIDS through the use of multimedia contents in accordance to the local context of Tanzanian curriculum for primary schools. Therefore, the main objective of this paper is to develop multimedia enhanced contents to raise HIV/AIDS awareness to children. ADDIE model, Adobe Flash Professional 5, Action Script programming language and articulate storyline2 authoring tool, were used in the development of multimedia enhanced contents. Results show that level of HIV/AIDS knowledge among pupils after using the interactive multimedia has been enhanced in the tested three knowledge areas (causes, prevention and effects). Results in this paper suggest that, multimedia enhanced contents can be used to complement text book based learning approach in enhancing HIV/AIDS awareness for children in primary schools in Tanzania
