CONSTRUCTING GOERITZ MATRIX FROM DEHN COLORING MATRIX
Get PDFIn 1933, L.Goeritz introduced an integral matrix associated to a knot diagram, which is now called a Goeritz matrix, and proved that the ab-solute value of the determinant of the matrix gives an invariant of a knot. Recently, it was shown that the Goeritz matrix is closely related to the Dehn coloring of knots. In this paper, for a knot diagram, we give an algorithm to construct a Goeritz matrix from a Dehn coloring matrix, from which Dehn colorings are induced, with some geometric information of the diagram. More-over, if the knot diagram is prime, we give a purely algebraic construction of a Goeritz matrix from a Dehn coloring matrix.departmental bulletin pape

Get PDFThis paper is a study that focuses on the prehistory of the Kanchazu Island incident of 1937 in order to clarify the seriousness of the incident. In this research, I analyzed the trends of Japan, Manchukuo, and the Soviet Union towards the conclusion of the 1934 Waterways Agreement signed by Manchukuo and the Soviet Union, and the process that led up to the termination of the Waterways Agreement. Physiological characteristics of open water swimmers
Get PDFOpen water swimming is the newest swimming event in the Olympic games. After becoming an Olympic event, the physiological characteristics of open water swimmers were unclear. The purpose of this study was to determine VO2peak, vLT, and vOBLA of Japanese elite open water swimmers and to reveal the correlation of those parameters and OWS results. As a result, it was found that VO2peak was 4.62～4.90 L/min for males and 3.07～3.29 L/min for females. vLT was 1.21～1.26 m/s for males and 1.16～1.22 m/s for females. vOBLA was 1.33～1.35 m/s for males and 1.25～1.30 m/s for females. The VO2peak showed a significant correlation with OWS results in 2019. To obtain medals in international events, competitive swimmers who have a high VO2peak are suited to participating in OWS. Coaches need to develop not only OWS athletes but also competitive 1500m swimmers.departmental bulletin pape
“Play”, “Criticism”, and “Inhumanity”: The Usage of “Sport” in the Works of John Milton
Get PDFThis paper addresses the usage of “sport” in John Milton’s English works. In 17th century England, “sport” primarily meant “play” or “pastime.” At that time, sports or pastimes were controversial among Puritans, who believed that such things encouraged immorality. In 1633, Charles I reissued the Book of Sports, which prescribed recreation approved for the Sabbath and, consequently, offended Puritans like Milton. Given Milton’s criticism of excessive sports, the word “sport” almost certainly had an unfavorable or negative connotation. Although researchers have clarified Milton’s stance on sports or pastimes, few if any studies have focused on his usage of “sport” in his works. Milton used “sport” 17 times as a noun in his English works, consistently using it to criticize specific people. However, his usage of “sport” gradually changed over time. Whereas he used “sport” to denounce his opponents in his early works, he used it to condemn the immorality of people more indirectly in his works after the Restoration because of censorship. The usage of “sport” in the works of Milton will be helpful to understand the history of the meaning “sport”.departmental bulletin pape
