The problems in intercultural cohesion and Shokuiku (food and nutrition education): A case report from Shimizu Town, Shizuoka Prefecture
Get PDFThe purpose of this report is to examine how the recent increase in the number of foreign residents in Japan has challenged food education activities in Shimizu Town, Shizuoka Prefecture, and what needs to be done to promote intercultural cohesion. “Shokuiku” is the Japanese term for food and nutrition education in English, however, “Shokuiku” came to include guidance related to all sorts of food-related phenomena such as food safety, but it encompasses a wide variety of issues, including food safety, environmental measures related to food disposal, food education activities in households and educational institutions, community relations, and food culture. Then, in 2005, the government established the fundamental points of its policy and sought to pursue various measures by drawing up the Basic Shokuiku Promotion Act. and the fourth Program for Shokuiku Promotion includes the SDGs. Based on the results of this survey, it is important for us to understand the current situation of children of permanent foreign residents and to find out the problems they are facing in adopting Shokuiku. This will be an opportunity to review the conventional way of accessing health and food information into a more understandable system, which is also important to achieve the SDGs goal “11 Sustainable Cities and Communities”.departmental bulletin pape
Evaluation of high-dose ascorbic acid administration for thermal stress reduction in fish model
Get PDFHigh-dose administration of ascorbic acid is expected to be beneficial for various diseases, but the mechanism is still unclear. In the present study, we investigated the effects of ascorbic acid administration for thermal stress reduction in a fish model. As a result, there were no differences between the administration group and the control groups, except for a significant decrease in the lipid peroxide. On the other hand, lipid peroxide levels expect for intestine were lower compared with the control group, suggesting that this experimental system can be used as a model for high-dose ascorbic acid administration.departmental bulletin pape

Comparative Study between Japan and Korea on Global Flow of Tertiary-Level Students
Get PDFThis paper is a comparative study between Japan and South Korea on global flow of tertiary-level students. Although Japan and Korea have many similarities in their educational systems and social environments, there are significant differences in global flow of tertiary-level students. Since 2005, the number of long-term Japanese students studying abroad has decreased, but that of short-term students studying abroad, especially those studying abroad for less than one month, has increased. On the other hand, there has been a boom in studying abroad in South Korea since 2000, where many people have a high passion for education, and more than 200,000 young people studied abroad, about three times as many as Japan for more than six months from 2007 to 2019. In recent years, the number of Korean students studying abroad has been decreasing due to the disadvantages of studying abroad, the economic downturn and the pandemic. From the current situation of study abroad in Japan and Korea, it is possible to understand the social problems faced by university students in both countries. As Japanese companies are accelerating their recruitment activities, so it makes difficult for university students to consider studying abroad. On the other hand, the difficulty of finding employment for young people has become a serious social problem in South Korea, so they are making an effort to get qualifications and improve their language skills, even if it extends the period of their enrollment at university.departmental bulletin pape
A review of tourism research in the island destinations from young generation perspective
Get PDFAlthough island destinations are generally associated with dependency, vulnerability, and/or being peripheral to the global economy, socioeconomic resilience has improved through tourism on many islands. In this respect, to achieve a more balanced and sustainable approach to tourism development in the island, it is crucial to analyse the tendencies of the young generations as stakeholders (i.e. tourists, residents). However, studies exploring the island destinations from young generation perspective, are limited. Under these circumstances, the purpose of this research has captured research trends in the field of island destination and young generation published in major tourism and hospitality management journals. An analysis of 20 articles extracted from a database revealed that tourists, and residentʼs perspective have been studied by researchers from many countries. We also found that there are some different tendencies compared to previous studies. The main contribution of this paper is to use the quantitative approach as the analysis method to understand the tendencies of tourism research in the island destinations with young generation perspective.departmental bulletin pape
