    Istrouma High School, 2007

    No full text
2007 Istrouma High School yearbook. Istrouma schools began in a two room house in 1917 in North Baton Rouge. As time went on, the student population grew steadily and outpaced the growth of the faculty. A number of buildings and hand-me-down materials were haphazardly obtained through out the years in order to meet the demand of the growing student body, and at one point the students were spread out over four buildings. In 1948, a proposal for a new high school was proposed at a school board meeting. Plans for the school were approved in November of 1948 and the construction of the new building designed by Bodman, Murrell, and Smith Architectural Firm was commenced shortly thereafter. The new building located on Winbourne Street opened in 1950 to white students from District 12 of East Baton Rouge Parish. The school was closed for the 2014-2015 academic year due to the continued failure of the school to meet state standards and low enrollment. Istrouma students have been sent to Capital High School to complete their education. The school is planned to reopen in the 2015-2016 academic year as a charter school
