No full textGlasgow Junior High School opened in 1954 and was (and is still) located at the corner of Glasgow Ave and Hyacinth Ave in the Southdowns neighborhood of Baton Rouge. The school was opened to accommodate white elementary suburban children of that neighborhood. It was originally known as a Glasgow Middle School but later changed its name to Glasgow Junior High School. The school closed for a short time and served as a district satellite office until it reopened in 1979 as the district's first magnet middle school. Glasgow Middle School now serves the southern part of Baton Rouge as the gifted and talented school for middle school children
