The art of India's Deccan Sultans: a symposium

    No full text
Brochure for a symposium held Oct. 24 and Oct. 25, 2008 at The Metropolitan Museum of Art. From the fifteenth through seventeenth centuries, the Deccann region of India was home to a succession of six great sultanates. This two-day symposium, hosted by the Metropolitan Museum's Department of Islamic Art, explores the art and culture of the period, presenting new research on the distinctly Deccani forms of painting, metalwork, carpets, and textiles created at this time. Papers examine the question of influences from the neighboring Vijayanagara kingdom and other South Asian traditions, as well as ties to the artistic legacies of Europe and West Asia
