Domestic tourism will play an important role in driving the economy of the country in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. This study aims to investigate the effect of e-WOM on travel intention and the mediating role of the destination’s image to determine if the COVID-19 pandemic has caused any changes to this well-established paradigm. Data was collected from two-hundred and eighty foreign students in Thailand using an online questionnaire. Structural equation modeling (SEM) was used to analyze the data and test the hypotheses related to the confirmatory factors. The foreign students saw Phuket Province as the most popular destination that they intended to visit and Google was the most online platform they used to obtain information about their intended destinations. Results from the SEM revealed positive relationships between e-WOM and travel intention, as well as the positive effect of destination image on travel intention. In addition, not only was the travel intention of the foreign students had influenced by e-WOM, it was also indirectly affected by the tourism destination’s image. In terms of implications, our findings would suggest that the COVID-19 pandemic has strengthened the power of e-WOM and Destination image affect travel intention and that online tourism public relations and destination image development should be enhance to increase domestic tourism along Thailand’s Andaman Coast, especially with regard to the target group of foreign students studying in Thailand.               This article explores on older adults’ thoughts and insights of the Great East Japan Earthquake that happened on March 11, 2011. Employing focused interviews among 15 elders, findings revealed that their views about life changed after experiencing the 3/11 disaster. Informants became more conscious in building as well as in developing their relationships with their family members and friends. They also underscored the importance of being prepared since disasters can happen at any time. Moreover, the idea of tsunami-tendenko (self-preservation) became apparent during the interviews. Informants, likewise, recognized the help and support of their neighborhood associations as they cope with the devastation of the 3/11 disaster. The collective efforts of different networks were demonstrated through the activities and programs for older adults. However, there is still a need for a more inclusive approach to disaster management where older adults can take part in. It is hoped that other older adults in Japan or elsewhere and those involved in disaster policy formulation and project development may learn from the lessons and insights from the informants in the study. Segmenting Senior Tourists: The Effects of Personal Values on Activity Preferences

    No full text
Senior tourists have begun to be essential for the tourism sector in recent years. However, understanding senior market segments and how their personal values affect tourism activity preferences have not been fully explored. Moreover, previous research has segmented the senior market based on Western perspectives. This study offers an Asian viewpoint, especially Thailand. It is intended to identify senior segmentation, to determine the personal values and differences of preferred tourism activities among segments. The data originated from a questionnaire survey of 376 Thai tourists aged 55 and over. Cluster analysis was used to identify senior segments. Scores for personal values were computed through cross-tabulation along with the chi-square analysis, and one-way ANOVA was adopted to test whether the dimension of tourism activity preferences differed among segments. Through Kahles’ list of value scales, the score of each value can be computed and composed of four clusters: achievement, hedonic, social recognition and companionship. Four senior segments were identified according to the psychographic variables analysed namely: Relationship Travelers, Explore and Relaxation Seekers, Health Seekers and Escapists. Tourism activities factored into outdoor, cultural, Therapeutic and adventure activities. Results of analysing activity preferences showed that differences preferences between the segments. This is considerable valuable for tourism marketers to sharpen their focus on developing tourism activities for each of the segments. Strength Development of Fly Ash-Perlite Based Geopolymer Mortar Using Recycled Waste Glass as Fine Aggregate

    Get PDF
In this paper, the synthesis of geopolymer mortars using fly ash and perlite with mixing recycled waste glass as a partial fine aggregate replacement was studied. Perlite was used to replace fly ash at weight percentages of 0 to 10, 20, 30, and 40. Waste glass was crushed with the size close to sand. Sand was replaced by waste glass at 20% by weight. Sodium silicate and 10 molar sodium hydroxide solutions were prepared as alkali activator. The workability, strength development, and fire resistance of geopolymer mortars were investigated. The results indicate that the flow and compressive strength of mortars decreased with an increase in perlite content. The strengths of fly ash-perlite geopolymer mortars at 28 days were in the range of 44 to 51 MPa, which is suitable for some engineering applications. The high strength for refractory applications was 95 MPa (70FA30PL), which increased as the sintering temperature increased. A Corpus Analysis of Collocational Behaviors of Japanese Near-synonymous Verbs: A Case Study of the Verb OKORU (Occur)

According to studies that advocate the advantage of corpus for near-synonym analysis (Kamiński, 2016; Nugroho, 2018; Petcharat & Phoocharoensil, 2017; Backhouse, 2003; Karahana & Zhao, 2017; Tateyama, 2012), the present study aimed to scrutinize the collocational behavior of Japanese verb okoru (occur) and its near synonymous verbs: okiru, hassēsuru, and shōjiru to identify the distinct usage of them and to depict the applicability of online data retrieval engine NINJAL-LWP for TWC to clarify the collocational behavior. The results for okoru and okiru reconfirmed the summary of Tomisaka (2005) on the usage trends of okiru which is increasing and is found in use more than okoru, though in this study found that the usage between okoru and okiru was not statistically different as seen from the LogDice score. The collocation of four near-synonymous verbs was categorized as co-occurring and typical collocational nouns identifying the distinct usages between them when near synonymous verbs were compared to okoru. For the expression of the occurrence of physical symptoms, it was better to use okoru. Okiru trended to express the occurrence of disasters and unpleasant situations such as jishin (earthquake), jiko (accident). Whereas hassēsuru expressed the occurrence of finance, illness, science and chemical reaction, small living creatures and shōjiru expressed the occurrence of finance, contract, cooperation, level of difference, emptiness.
