Explorando la articulación metodológica entre lo cuantitativo y lo cualitativo desde la etnografía digital en Grindr
A través de la exposición de un estudio de caso en la plataforma de citas Grindr, este artículo propone explorar nuevas estrategias de integración metodológica en el estudio de la sexualidad, superando el enfoque predominantemente cualitativo que ha caracterizado este campo. Abogando por la sinergia entre métodos cualitativos y cuantitativos, se busca revitalizar la sociología empírica tradicional que sostiene sus objetos y resultados de investigación en lo accesible a través de técnicas clásicas. En este contexto, se introduce la propuesta de la "etnografía digital multitécnica" como un marco metodológico que permite la reapropiación del espacio digital y la integración de diversas técnicas con el fin de generar una red de validaciones y complementaciones cruzadas, enriqueciendo y matizando continuamente los resultados. En el estudio de caso, abordando la autorrepresentación del yo digital en una plataforma de citas, se atenderá a diferentes técnicas de análisis (mapeo cualitativo, análisis de contenido categorial, análisis estadístico descriptivo y de correspondencias múltiples, nubes de palabras y análisis visual) cuyo uso simultáneo permite construir análisis que dan cuenta de la condición poliédrica y multidimensional de los fenómenos sociales propios de la era digital.; Through the exposition of a case study on the dating platform Grindr, this arti-cle aims to explore new strategies of methodological integration in the study of sexuality, overcoming the predominantly qualitative approach that has characterized the field. Advocating the synergy between qualitative and quantitative methods, it seeks to revitalize traditional empirical sociology that sustains its research objects and results in what is accessible through classical techniques. In this context, the proposal of a "multi-technical digital ethnography" is introduced as a methodological framework that allows the re-appropriation of the digital space and the integration of various techniques in order to generate a network of cross-validations and complementations, continuously enriching and nuancing the results. In the case study, looking into the self-representation of the digital self on a dating platform, different analysis techniques will be used (qualitative mapping, categorical content analysis, descriptive statistical analysis and multiple correspondence analysis, word clouds and visual analysis) which simultaneous use allows the construction of analyses that account for the multifaceted and multidimensional condition of the social phenomena of the digital era
Addressing thermal comfort and loneliness in aging societies: an interdisciplinary educational research approach
The challenges posed by aging populations and increasing rates of social isolation necessitate a rethinking of the manner in which housing and urban environments can support elderly well-being. This study explores the role of interdisciplinary educational research in addressing two key challenges faced by older adults living alone: thermal comfort and loneliness. The research, which was conducted in the Basque Country, Spain, involved six Final Degree Projects (FDPs) developed within a Research-Based Learning (RBL) framework by undergraduate students in architecture and engineering. These projects were embedded in two applied research initiatives, Etxelagun and Kalelagun, which monitored private dwellings and public spaces to evaluate environmental comfort and social inclusion. The student teams conducted fieldwork, interviews, environmental audits, and co-design processes with elderly participants and stakeholders from public administration, social services, and health sectors. The results demonstrate how the physical and social characteristics of the built environment influence autonomy, thermal comfort, and opportunities for interaction. The proposals developed address accessibility, climate-adaptive design, and age-friendly urban strategies. Survey results demonstrate that the RBL approach enhances students’ sensitivity and commitment to social challenges. The study concludes that interdisciplinary, context-sensitive educational research can produce actionable design solutions while cultivating future professionals equipped to respond to the complex needs of aging societies.This work was financed and supported by ADINBERRI and the Gipuzkoa Provincial Council through the ETXELAGUN project (Ref. Sensitivity of the particle size determined inline by Photon Density Wave Spectroscopy with respect to sample properties and measurement settings during emulsion copolymerization reactions
Photon Density Wave spectroscopy (PDWS) is one of the few real-time and inline submicron particle size monitoring techniques that are commercially available nowadays. In this work, a sensitivity analysis of the PDWS results with respect to relevant sample properties and measurement settings is carried out. It is investigated how the distances between the emission and detection fibers together with the laser modulation frequencies, and uncertainties of the input parameters (refractive index, density, and solids content of the dispersed phase) needed for data analysis affect the reduced scattering coefficients and particle diameters obtained from inline PDWS measurements. The seeded semibatch emulsion copolymerization of methyl methacrylate (MMA, 51 w-%), butyl acrylate (BA, 47 w-%), and methacrylic acid (MAA, 2 w-%) is used as a model system. It is shown that the careful selection of measurement distances and modulation frequencies increases the accuracy of the particle size determination by PDWS. Towards greener furfural: evaluating the technical, economic and environmental feasibility of heterogeneous catalysis in biomass conversion
Furfural is a key biomass-derived platform chemical with a large market volume, yet its production has largely been outsourced from Europe due to the high energy demand for reactor heating and the significant environmental impact of acidic waste generation. Current industrial processes, predominantly the Chinese Batch Process (CBP), rely on sulphuric acid as a catalyst and require extensive steam stripping, contributing significant environmental constraints. This study explores the feasibility of a more sustainable furfural production by evaluating an alternative process based on a heterogeneous acid catalyst. The proposed process integrates scale-up considerations to improve reactor performance, replacing steam stripping with nitrogen stripping and sulphuric acid with Amberlyst-70® as heterogeneous catalyst. A detailed process simulation, techno-economic analysis (TEA), and life cycle assessment (LCA) were conducted to compare the material and energy balances of both processes and to assess the viability of the heterogeneous catalytic process (HCP). Results indicate that the current selectivity of Amberlyst-70® is insufficient for technical feasibility, as a 5.5-fold improvement in furfural-to-tar selectivity is required to match the steam consumption of CBP. If this target is met, both processes exhibit similar minimum selling prices (>€3000 per t), although significantly above current market levels. However, the HCP presents a potential cost reduction pathway (<€1000 per t) through the valorisation of lignin and cellulose by-products, offering a competitive advantage. Environmental analysis highlights key benefits of the HCP, including a significant reduction in freshwater ecotoxicity by eliminating sulphuric acid and improved energy efficiency through enhanced process integration. Nonetheless, energy consumption and maize cob usage remain critical environmental hotspots. Overall, the study identifies catalyst selectivity as the key bottleneck preventing the implementation of the HCP. Further development of a more selective and stable heterogeneous catalyst, alongside integrated biorefinery strategies, could enable the competitive and sustainable production of furfural.This work received financial support from the Spanish Ministry

3DCryoHolder: a new open access 3D printable system to store and transport silicon nitride membranes under cryogenic conditions for spectromicroscopy at low temperature
Data acquisition under cryogenic conditions allows one to avoid unwanted damage caused by beam irradiation. This is particularly important for the study of biological samples at hard X-ray, micro- or nano-probe beamlines, which focus synchrotron radiation to small beam sizes with extremely high flux densities. Sample preparation methods for cryopreserved specimens have been adapted from electron microscopy, and include the use of silicon nitride membranes as they are easy to handle and possess low X-ray absorption. Yet, currently there are no commercially available methods for the storage and transport of silicon nitride membranes under cryogenic conditions. Here, we introduce and provide the design files of 3DCryoHolder, a system that can be 3D printed in-house for the correct storage and transport of multiple silicon nitride membranes under cryogenic conditions, and is compatible with all commercial plunge-freezing instruments
The response of inclusive schools to the needs of children exposed to Adverse Childhood Experiences
This research seeks to explore the bidirectional adaptation of the educational
community in schools that take in children at risk and who have suffered ACE.
On the one hand, it describes the psychological adjustment of children at risk to
the school context. On the other hand, it reports on the school’s response to the
needs of these children. Three public primary schools characterized by social and
school segregation participated in this study. Participants included 25 primary
education professionals and 144 third- and fourth-year primary school children,
from diverse cultural backgrounds. Data collection techniques consisted of
participant observation, semi-structured interviews and focus groups. The
analysis revealed the following five themes: (1) emotional instability of students;
(2) the crisis of authority questions the place of the teacher; (3) difficulties in good
teaching practices; (4) grouping and segregation of students; and (5) need for
other material and human resources on the part of teachers. Findings suggest the
need to develop comprehensive and systemic lines of research and intervention
that take into account both the individual characteristics of children and the
social factors that characterize schools. In addition, the fundamental role played
by inclusive schools in addressing the rights of these most vulnerable children
and ensuring their well-being is highlighted

Clínica virtual de retina: evaluación de su efectividad y análisis económico
209 p.IntroducciónAnte el notable aumento en la prevalencia de las patologías retinianas y la creciente sobrecarga asistencial, resulta fundamental explorar alternativas a las consultas presenciales convencionales que permitan mejorar la eficiencia del sistema sanitario sin comprometer la calidad asistencial.ObjetivosEvaluar la eficiencia de la clínica virtual de retina en comparación con la clínica presencial. Analizar su capacidad para detectar la progresión de la enfermedad, así como los costes económicos asociados a ambas modalidades. Finalmente, valorar el grado de satisfacción de los pacientes atendidos en la clínica virtual.Material y métodosSe llevó a cabo un estudio comparativo entre la clínica virtual de retina y la consulta presencial convencional, evaluando la eficacia asistencial, el impacto económico y la satisfacción del paciente.ResultadosSe incluyeron 481 pacientes. Los resultados fueron favorables para el modelo virtual, tanto en términos de efectividad clínica como de eficiencia económica. La consulta virtual de retina permite detectar de forma eficaz la progresión de la enfermedad con una sensibilidad del 100% y especificidad del 80%. Las patologías más adecuadas para el seguimiento en la CVR son la retinopatía diabética y la degeneración macular asociada a la edad debido a su prevalencia. El cribado de retinopatía por hidroxicloroquina es la patología más eficiente para ser atendida en clínica virtual de retina. ConclusionesLos hallazgos respaldan a la clínica virtual como una alternativa complementaria eficaz para gestionar el creciente volumen de pacientes con patologías retinianas. Contribuye a mejorar la sostenibilidad y eficiencia del sistema sanitario, manteniendo una alta satisfacción entre los pacientes
Catalizadores bimetálicos en sistemas LOHC de almacenamiento y liberación de hidrógeno
[ES] En este Trabajo de Fin de Máster se ha abordado el desarrollo de catalizadores bimetálicos Pt-Mo para su aplicación en sistemas de almacenamiento de hidrógeno basados en portadores líquidos orgánicos (LOHCs), concretamente en el par benciltolueno/perhidrobenciltolueno (H0-BT/H12-BT). Los catalizadores se sintetizaron mediante impregnación húmeda sobre soportes de alúmina y diferentes tipos de titania, y fueron caracterizados en ensayos de deshidrogenación en reactor batch y en ciclos de hidrogenación/deshidrogenación en un reactor a presión.
Los resultados mostraron que la titania comercial, con mezcla de anatasa/rutilo, es el soporte más adecuado para catalizadores monometálicos de Pt, mientras que la adición de molibdeno mejoro significativamente la dispersión, estabilidad del platino,
incrementando significativamente la conversión y la selectividad, lo que permite reducir la carga de Pt sin comprometer la eficiencia. En los ensayos cíclicos, la alúmina presento una desactivación progresiva del catalizador mientras que la titania demostró una mayor
estabilidad tras ajustar las condiciones de reacción.
Este trabajo confirma la viabilidad de los catalizador Pt-Mo en aplicaciones LOHC y aporta una base experimental para el diseño de catalizadores más eficientes y sostenibles.[EN] This master’s thesis addresses the development of Pt-Mo bimetallic catalysts for use in hydrogen storage systems based on liquid organic carriers (LOHCs), specifically in the benzyltoluene/perhydrobenzyltoluene (H0-BT/H12-BT) pair. The catalysts were synthesized by wet impregnation on alumina supports and different types of titania and were characterized in dehydrogenation tests in a batch reactor and in hydrogenation/dehydrogenation cycles in a pressure reactor.
The results showed that commercial titania, with a mixture of anatase/rutile, is the most suitable support for Pt monometallic catalysts, while the addition of molybdenum significantly improved the dispersion, stability of platinum, significantly increasing
conversion and selectivity, which allows the Pt load to be reduced without compromising efficiency. In cyclic tests, alumina showed progressive catalyst deactivation, while titania demonstrated grater stability after adjusting the reaction conditions.
