Decarbonization of EU services sector: shadow carbon prices approach in energy efficiency analysis

    No full text

The transition to a climate-neutral economy positions energy efficiency as a cornerstone of the European Union’s (EU) strategy. While significant attention has been paid to the industrial and residential sectors, the service sector has emerged as a critical area due to its rapid growth and increasing energy demand. This paper addresses the urgent need for effective methods to monitor and improve energy efficiency within this complex sector. The primary objective is to provide a comprehensive review of the existing literature on tracking energy efficiency in the EU service sector and to highlight the potential of the shadow carbon price (SCP) approach as an advanced analytical tool for policy analysis. This paper synthesises findings from recent studies and policy documents, examining the theoretical foundations of the SCP approach based on non-parametric techniques like Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) to assess the marginal cost of CO2 abatement. The main findings from the literature indicate that while the EU has a robust policy framework, including the Effort Sharing Regulation (ESR) and the new Emissions Trading System (ETS2), there are significant disparities in energy efficiency performance across EU member states. The originality of this paper lies in its focused application of the SCP concept to the under researched tertiary sector, proposing it as a vital tool for evaluating policy effectiveness and guiding the EU’s transition to a low-carbon service economy by providing a more nuanced understanding of the economic trade-offs involved in reducing environmental impact of energy consumption in the service sector.
Bioekonomikos tyrimų institutas / Bioeconomy Research InstituteVytauto Didžiojo universitetas / Vytautas Magnus UniversityŽemės ūkio akademija / Agriculture Academ

Mapping the landscape of religious coping: review and bibliometric analysis of theocentric and non-theocentric practices

    No full text
This study presents an integrated review of religious coping, comparing theocentric and non-theocentric mechanisms, and examining research trends. Combining a narrative review with a VOSviewer-based bibliometric analysis of 2403 Scopus-indexed articles (1982–2025), the study examines the conceptual differences and functional roles of coping strategies in various religious traditions. The study’s results highlight three main differences between theocentric and non-theocentric traditions. These encompass theological and existential meaning-making, surrendering to God and self-control, as well as spiritual renewal and personal transformation. Theocentric coping is typically based on a divine relationship and prayer, whereas non-theocentric approaches emphasize inner balance, rituals, and ethical self-improvement. It has been found that most research focuses on Western, monotheistic contexts, primarily Christianity and Islam, while non-theocentric systems such as Buddhism, Confucianism, and Taoism remain underrepresented. The peripheral use of terms such as mindfulness, meditation, and holistic care suggests that although these topics exist, they are still insufficiently studied in the field of research on religious coping. This study contributes to the theoretical enrichment of the thematic field of religious coping and promotes the development of empirical research aimed at in-depth examination of non-theocentric coping practices in crises, as well as the revision of conventional models for coping assessment, which do not sufficiently reflect the existing spiritual and philosophical diversity of non-theocentric traditions.Vytauto Didžiojo universitetas / Vytautas Magnus UniversityKatalikų teologijos fakultetas / Faculty of Catholic TheologyV. Improvement of mechanical properties of Nb on Cu structure for RF cavity by laser radiation: Formation of soft Cu buffer layer

    No full text
An increase in the crystal size of Nb thin films and the Cu substrate in the Nb/Cu structure was observed after irradiation with an Nd:YAG laser, as confirmed by XRD, SEM, and EDS measurements. This phenomenon leads to a corresponding increase in the hardness of Nb and a decrease in the hardness of Cu, consistent with the Hall-Petch effect. Temperature distribution calculations in Cu, as a function of laser pulse duration, reveal that nanosecond pulses result in the formation of a 0.7 μm thick, soft Cu layer at the Nb/Cu interface. However, with a pulse duration of 1 ms or longer, the entire 1 mm thick Cu substrate softens and the RF resonator structure may become mechanically unstable. In a Cu resonator coated with an Nb film, irradiation with nanosecond pulses results in the formation of a thin, soft Cu layer that serves as a buffer during thermal shock. Notably, no detachment of the Nb layer from the Cu substrate was observed in samples irradiated with nanosecond Nd:YAG laser pulses, even under thermal shock.Mechan., energetik. ir biotech. inž. k. / Department of Mechanical, Energy and Biotechnology EngineeringVytauto Didžiojo universitetas / Vytautas Magnus UniversityInžinerijos fakultetas / Faculty of EngineeringŽemės ūkio akademija / Agriculture Academ

The research problem addressed in this master theses is how to improve data-based decision-making recruiting players in European basketball. The object of the research focuses on data-driven decision-making specifically for recruitment of players for basketball teams. It explores how teams utilise these tools to systematically select players who meet performance, strategic and cost requirements. The aim of this thesis is after analysing data-driven decision-making frameworks and best practices for player recruitment in European basketball teams, propose actionable solutions for clubs operations. Research methods. This master theses employs a qualitative research approach, based in literature review and interviews with top and 2nd tier basketball professionals. The research results show that recruitment relies heavily on subjective judgement, networks, financial limitations and visual analysis, with uneven adoption of analytics; the conclusions include a decision-making framework that systematically manages data and qualitative information in order to mitigate bias, support the decision and ensure alignment with organisational strategy and constraints.Šiame magistro baigiamajame darbe nagrinėjama mokslinė problema – kaip pagerinti duomenimis grįstą sprendimų priėmimą žaidėjų atrankos procese Europos krepšinyje. Tyrimo objektas – duomenimis grįstas sprendimų priėmimas, taikomas krepšinio komandų žaidėjų atrankoje. Darbe analizuojama, kaip krepšinio klubai naudoja analitinius įrankius ir duomenis siekdami sistemingai atrinkti žaidėjus, atitinkančius sportinio rezultatyvumo, strateginius ir finansinius reikalavimus. Šio darbo tikslas – išanalizavus duomenimis grįsto sprendimų priėmimo modelius ir gerąsias praktikas, taikomas Europos krepšinio klubų žaidėjų atrankoje, pasiūlyti praktiškai pritaikomus sprendimus klubų veiklai. Tyrimo metodai. Magistro darbe taikomas kokybinis tyrimo metodas, paremtas mokslinės literatūros analize ir pusiau struktūruotais interviu su aukščiausio ir antrojo lygmens profesionalaus krepšinio atstovais.Tyrimo rezultatai rodo, kad žaidėjų atranka vis dar stipriai remiasi subjektyviu vertinimu, asmeniniais tinklais, finansiniais apribojimais ir vaizdine analize, o analitinių metodų taikymas skirtinguose klubuose yra nevienodas. Išvadose pateikiamas sprendimų priėmimo modelis, kuris sistemiškai integruoja duomenis ir kokybinę informaciją, siekiant sumažinti sprendimų šališkumą, pagrįsti sprendimų priėmimą ir užtikrinti jų suderinamumą su organizacijos strategija bei veiklos apribojimais.Vadybos katedra / Departmant of ManagementEkonomikos ir vadybos fakultetas / Faculty of Economics and ManagementVytauto Didžiojo universitetas / Vytautas Magnus Universit
