Crafting the Future of Chat Reference: Assessing for Quality in Cooperative Chat Reference
Online reference allows libraries to join cooperatives in which other librarians provide chat reference when local librarians are not available. As the future brings more cross institutional collaboration, how do we know that cooperative chat is effective for our patrons? Librarians developed a rubric to assess chat transcripts for the quality of services provided by librarians outside their institution. Presenters will share the results of their assessment, the steps they took to develop the assessment questions, the rubric used, the assessment process, and lessons learned. Attendees will develop an understanding of how to assess reference for quality to improve services

Episode 4: Ladino Collaborative: Language, Linguistics and Beyond
In this episode, we are joined by Dr. Bryan Kirschen, a professor of Spanish and Linguistics, and Dr. Dina Danon, a professor of Judaic Studies and History, at Binghamton University, who in addition to their various scholarly interests, also co-direct Binghamton University\u27s Ladino collaborative or the Ladino Lab, which is an initiative that offers undergraduates, graduate students and faculty training in reading Latino texts and paleography. The co-directors of Ladino collaboratory, Dr. Kirschen and Dr. Danon shared with us the motivation and inspiration behind this project. They talk about how the project started. The friendships that have blossomed across age or cultural barriers through this project, the way that this project has not just morphed with the onset of COVID, but also acted as a way for people involved to build community and resilience during this difficult time. Synthesis and evaluation of 1-substituted imidazo[4,5-c] quinoline TLR7 agonists with improved potency
TLR7 agonists are small molecules that are useful within cancer immunotherapy due to their ability to stimulate the TLR7 pathway resulting in NFκB activation, and cytokine release.1 Due to the risk of toxicity when delivered systemically, our team has employed a particular type of drug-delivery technology, Antibody Drug Conjugates (ADCs) to deliver these payloads directly to tumor tissue. The initial focus of this work was on E104 (8a), an imidazoquinoline TLR7 agonist, which was synthesized by the Tumey lab.1 However, the agonist was not sufficiently potent for many of the proposed applications of this technology, prompting a need to develop more potent derivatives of this compound. Initial derivatives were synthesized through amine couplings at the benzylic substituent and were characterized using HPLC and NMR. The derivatives were further evaluated using Ramos Blue Cell activation assays as well as PAMPA permeability assays, resulting in the identification of compounds 9b, 11b and 12b as potent payloads with sufficientpermeability for ADC applications. Generally, hydrophobic appendages attached to the benzyl group significantly enhanced the potency of the payloads and multiple analogs were found to be ~10x more potent than the parent E104 molecule. Although these specific payloads proved to be sufficiently potent, they proved to have limited reactivity and our initial studies showed them to be incompatible with typical ADC linkers. Linker payload synthesis difficulties were overcome by attempting to create new payloads using the reductive amination method in which a secondary amine was a part of the functional group alteration. This allowed for linker attachment with the more reactive amine as compared to the amine attached onto the quinoline which is more poorly nucleophilic. These new generation payloads were also characterized by HPLC, UPLC and NMR and additionally evaluated for their ability to stimulate the TLR7 pathway and induce NFκB activation. Although they proved not to have improved potency to E104, compound 13a proved to have modest potency and this new type of payload proved compatibility with the cleavable mcValCitPABC linker, paving the way for future efforts surrounding optimization of these payloads
The Impact of Food Insecurity on Neurobehaviors
The current study focuses on the impact of food insecurity on mental health and neurobehaviors. Food insecurity is a widespread issue that can have detrimental effects on multiple aspects of life. Data was collected using an anonymous online survey that was administered via Instagram, Facebook, Groupme, and messages. The survey included basic demographic questions such as age, gender, education, and income. The survey further inquired about dietary restrictions, resilience, motivation, and mindset. Results indicate an indirect relationship between food availability and resiliency, motivation, and mental wellness. Our results suggest that food insecurity is harmful to the emotional state; this study sheds light on the importance of food availability on neurobehaviors and mental health.https://orb.binghamton.edu/research_days_posters_2023/1140/thumbnail.jp
