How Does Transportation to the New York Area Sport Stadiums Affect the Level of Pollution They Produce?
How does transportation to the New York Area Sport Stadiums affect the level of pollution they produce? This project will discover which stadium most negatively affects the environment by looking at the following stadiums: Madison Square Garden, Yankee Stadium, UBS Arena, Highmark Stadium, Metlife Stadium, and Citi Field. By measuring the air quality index surrounding the stadiums, it will determine the amount of pollution each stadium gives off. This study will analyze information provided in articles discussing the environment, sports, and pollution. The methods used will include using a survey to gain public knowledge about their travel preferences to the stadiums. Furthermore, this study will determine the amount of parking spaces, stadium capacity, and the stadium’s distance from mass transit. This will improve the condition of the environment, which could help stadiums implement initiatives to use more mass transit. Stability Analysis and Extension of a Discrete-Time Dynamical System for Scaffolded Learning
Van Geert and Steenbeek [16] proposed a coupled, delayed, discrete-time deterministic dynamical system to model scaffolded learning. We provide a detailed analysis of their model, whose global dynamics are complicated by the presence of intersecting lines of non-isolated, nonhyperbolic fixed points. We also interpret some of the trajectories in the system that have interesting dynamics in the context of the teacher-student interactions, and propose an extension to the model that simultaneously collapses the lines of fixed points to single, isolated points and is easily interpreted. These results provide the foundation for guiding the collection and integration of experimental data to apply the model to inform the teaching and learning process
FUNCTIONAL RESILIENCE OF HEALTHCARE IN THE CRITICAL JUNCTURE OF THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC
This paper offers a comparative analysis of eight national healthcare systems—spanning democracies, autocracies, and various institutional models—to evaluate resilience during the COVID-19 pandemic. Drawing on Shvetsova et al.’s framework of informational and authority redundancies, and Parker & Klein’s “choke point” theory of healthcare rationing, we examine how institutional structure shaped pandemic response, system adaptability, and continuity of non-COVID services. Using indicators like life expectancy, under-five mortality, hospital capacity, cancer survival, and excess mortality, we explore how systems absorbed shock and maintained essential care. We find that decentralized and polycentric governance structures, when paired with coordination and resource adequacy, enhanced resilience—exemplified by countries like Switzerland and Spain. By contrast, fragmented or overly centralized responses, especially without redundancy or trust, often faltered. The paper contributes to health politics and public policy by identifying institutional features that enabled flexibility, responsiveness, and protection of broader healthcare services during crisis. These insights inform future preparedness planning
Waging War on Peacebuilders: Digital Sexual Violence as a Barrier to Peace
Technology’s rapid advancement is quickly cultivating an online world that is becoming increasingly dangerous for women that participate in public life. This paper explores the ways in which sexual violence is used in online spaces to harass and abuse women peacebuilders and inhibit their peacebuilding work. It first dives into exactly how digital sexual violence is conceptualized in modern scholarship and academic works, then examines the different shapes that digital sexual violence takes, how digital sexual violence impacts women peacebuilders personally and professionally, and how digital sexual violence, when used against women peacebuilders, impacts global democratic efforts. It concludes with a review of actions that have already been taken at both the national and international level to address digital sexual violence against women peacebuilders and a discussion of additional actions that governments, nongovernmental organizations, and technology companies can and should take to further protect women peacebuilders. This work aims to demonstrate that while technology is often seen as an essential peacebuilding tool due to its ability to help activists reach large audiences, it simultaneously presents a substantial obstacle to critical peacebuilding efforts. It is thus imperative that collaborative efforts take place to combat this form of violence

The author argues that disseminating false and harmful information based on stereotypes promotes anti-compassionate sentiment. In this formula, the “welfare queen” image in Ronald Reagan’s infamous radio address is analyzed as a form of disinformation, as encouraged by Marwick et al., that thwarts an individuals’ empathetic response to poverty
Cultivating Change: Student-Driven Sustainability Projects
This chapter discusses sustainability-focused student-run projects being used in the libraries at Binghamton University, part of the State University of New York system, as unique learning opportunities that encourage high quality engagement and act as a form of education for sustainable development. Two different examples are presented, both of which provide insights from two librarians as well as from a student employee. The first example highlights a grant-funded project resulting in the creation of an Equitable Sustainability Literacy Guide (ESLG). The project was a typical student project. Two librarians provided the idea, resources, basic outline, and overall guidance for the project and students successfully under-took the majority of the work. The second example highlights a non-traditional student-run project involving a Sustainability Hub Student Interest Group which has had its successes, failures, and multiple iterations. The concept of a broader Sustainability Hub is also discussed and suggestions given for ways in which other academic libraries can engage with students to promote and educate their communities about the United Nation
An Examination of Self-Defense Actions by Victim Groups in Yemen and Palestine
This paper is a largely contradistinctive analysis of resistance methods utilized by the tribal communities of Yemen and the people of occupied Palestine. By examining their respective colonial pasts and the calculated methods in which people have resisted, valuable context is added to modern methods of defiance against continuous atrocities. The shared self-defense strategy of adaptation through the forms of peaceful mediation and public memorialization, is central to this analysis, as both methods illustrate the way in which culture and resistance have crystallized together over time. This is particularly visible in the case of Palestine regarding the metamorphosis of the concept of martyrdom. We also pay special attention to the unique function of women as rescuers and resistors, who use their social role to the benefit of their cause or circumvent cultural norms all together in the name of resistance, both of which are widely accepted by their communities. Indeed, each case is unique, however the way in which cultural practices and defiance in the face of extermination have adapted into mechanisms for self- defense, offers a valuable frame of reference when examining the intricacies of the ongoing violence in Yemen and Palestine today
Topological and Information-Theoretic Analysis of Climate-Driven Indonesian Throughflow Dynamics
The Indonesian Throughflow (ITF) represents the sole tropical pathway connecting Pacific and Indian Oceans, yet quantitative understanding of climate mode influences on its variability remains incomplete. We applied information-theoretic and topological frameworks to analyze 34 years (1984-2017) of observational ITF transport data alongside ENSO and IOD indices. Bootstrap analysis revealed pronounced ITF seasonality with 13.28 Sv amplitude peaking in September, contrasting with negligible climate index annual cycles, indicating scale separation in forcing mechanisms. Multi-method extrema detection identified 36-41 extreme events per variable, with 23.1% coincidence between ENSO and IOD high extrema confirming known co-occurrence patterns. Ensemble information-theoretic metrics demonstrated ENSO exerts moderately stronger influence on ITF (mean score 0.524) compared to IOD (0.500), with component-specific optimal lag relationships ranging 4-9 months. Transfer entropy quantified directional information flow with causality ratios of 0.528-0.571. Topological analysis through persistent homology identified stable second homology features (7-11 voids) across climate states, suggesting robust dynamical constraints. Two regime shifts were detected with 100% accuracy and 2.3-month average lead time during near-neutral climate conditions. Extended predictive lead times (22-33 months) indicate gradual phase space reorganization preceding transport anomalies. These findings show that nonlinear analytical frameworks can reveal climate-ocean coupling mechanisms, which are hard to detect using traditional approaches, with implications for improving ITF projections under changing climate
