Entropic dynamics of networks
Here we present the entropic dynamics formalism for networks. That is, a framework for the dynamics of graphs meant to represent a network derived from the principle of maximum entropy and the rate of transition is obtained taking into account the natural information geometry of probability distributions. We apply this framework to the Gibbs distribution of random graphs obtained with constraints on the node connectivity. The information geometry for this graph ensemble is calculated and the dynamical process is obtained as a diffusion equation. We compare the steady state of this dynamics to degree distributions found on real-world networks
Las fundaciones empresariales y la agendación de políticas públicas mediante la gestión de redes de actores: el caso de NiñezYA en Colombia
This article explores the possibilities of network management to increase the capacity of business foundations to exert influence on the process of agenda-setting in public policies. This case illustrates how three foundations (Éxito Foundation, Alpina Foundation and ALAS Foundation) helped to coordinate one hundred civil society organizations to influence the Colombian National Development Plan (2018-2022). The case shows that business foundations can play an important role in setting the policy agenda by working as articulators of multiple fragmented actors of civil society. The article details the specific mechanisms used to pursue this articulation through the creation of a policy network known as NiñezYA. This in turn suggests that other foundations and NGOs could use the same strategies to increase their influence in policy making
Mechanisms of atrocity prevention policy brief on gender mainstreaming
The purpose of this brief is to provide recommendations on how to approach the possibilities of gender mainstreaming when gender identities are nonbinary. This brief also gives an overview of gender mainstreaming issues when it comes to downstream phases of atrocity prevention in places that have recently recovered from civil wars—the same civil wars which systematically committed violence against women and gender non-conforming people
Using tattoo inks to develop undergraduate general chemistry and high school level chemistry students’ understanding of atomic emission
An effective way to promote student engagement in the laboratory is to substitute traditional reagents for recognizable, real-world products. In this work, two laboratory experiments are outlined – one geared toward undergraduate general chemistry students and one for high school introductory level chemistry students – which replace solutions of metal salts with tattoo inks in the classic flame test experiment. The main objective of both experiments is to familiarize students with the subatomic mechanism occurring during atomic emission. Additionally, the undergraduate level experiment features the use of spectroscopy to identify metals present within tattoo inks through analysis of atomic emission spectra
Egyptian stasis and imperial quick-time: recursive xenophobia cloaked in mysticism
I will be examining temporality in British texts about Egypt across time. In order to achieve this, I analyze the play Antony and Cleopatra (1606) by William Shakespeare, and put it in conversation with Pharos, the Egyptian (1899) by Guy Newell Boothby. I will also be discussing Alexandria (2009) by Lindsey Davis, as a demonstration that the pattern in my findings is enduring. I will be dissecting the portrayal of Egyptian temporality, which I have found to be conveyed as a stasis, as contrasted by the quick-time of dominating imperial powers. These sources will allow me to compare depictions of generally urgent imperial time as contrasted by Egyptian stasis from the 17th, 19th, and 21st centuries; this cross section of time will allow me to explore temporality across three key centuries in the literary world. In both Antony and Cleopatra and Pharos, the Egyptian, I note that the fetishization of Egyptian identity and symbology via British writers is crucial in establishing Egypt as a stasis. Although fascinatingly similar, I have found a difference between these texts, involving the employment (and lack thereof) of temporal inconsistencies related to Egypt including gaps in time, fainting, entrancement, future-telling, and differences in memory recall. I will be cross-referencing an array of biographical sources of Cleopatra, museum history, and important literary texts starting with Life of Antony by Plutarch, from the first century AD. To supplement my argument, I will be referencing theories on Postcolonialism, temporality, imperialism, and museological exhibition

Boletus subvelutipes
Mycorrhizal with oak, found growing alone, scattered, or gregariously. Widely distributed, June - September. Cap 5-9 cm wide; convex; dull orange in color, with a yellow margin; tacky when fresh. Pore surface yellow, bruising blue and ages to a blackish color. Stem 3 ½ - 7 cm long; 1 ½ - 2 cm thick; reticulate near cap. This species produces variegatic acid, which causes it to bruise blue (Negishi et al. 2000). Variegatic acid isolated from a fruiting body of Boletus velutipes was shown to have enzymatic deodorization properties (Negishi et al. 2000). In a study from Yunnan, China, fruiting bodies demonstrated significant bioaccumulation of heavy metals such as copper, iron, manganese, zinc, and lead, significantly higher than other species studied - Amanita augusta and Macrolepiota procera (Lalotra et al. 2016). Hypomyces camphorati
Parasitic on Lactarius camphoratus. Found under Pinus spp. Subiculum white turning yellow, completely covering hymenium of host. Pileus deformed, irregular, more umbellate than host species, pinkish brown. Stipe lighter than cap with irregular darker zone where Hypomyces subiculum meets. Stipe shorter and wider than on non-parasitized L. camphoratus. Rogerson & Samuels (1994) treat H. camphorati as a synonym for H. lateritius, however they acknowledge that Hypomyces on L. camphoratus display “a yellowish subiculum and slightly larger ascospores.” Genetic analysis is required in order to determine accurate speciation. Hypomyces hyalinus
Parasitic on Amanitas (Rogerson & Samuels 1994). Likely A. rubescens and A. frostiana on our specimens. Found under Pinus and Tsuga. The telemorphic form of this fungus deforms the host Amanita, resulting in a bulbous, occasionally shaggy stipe, a small subglobose cap, and a white subiculum covering the entire fruiting body. On Amanita rubescens, the subiculum occasionally retains pinkish brown staining from the host, between 10 and 20 cm high. On Amanita frostiana, coloration is tawny on the stipe and yellow on the pileus. Occasionally universal veil remnants (“warts”) are still visible beneath subiculum on both hosts. Specimens recognized by coloration, stature, and proximity to non parasitized fruiting bodies. No ascospore germination nor consistently associated animorphs have yet been observed (Rogerson and Samuels 1994).
