The Processing Manual as a Tool for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
Get PDFIn this presentation, the authors explore how standardized processing workflows can encapsulate today’s minimal and extensible processing methods while simultaneously implementing Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) best practices. This was their central purpose when developing the first processing manual at Brandeis University, published in December 2021. The manual includes a processing level matrix, and covers accessioning, surveying, and workflows for five different levels of processing, restrictions, and access determination. The manual also solidifies new workflows which aim to balance the use of extensible archival practices to increase access to collections, with the need to address DEI concerns through transparency, care for content creators and subjects, thoughtful treatment of provenance, and mitigation of harm. The presentation discusses the goals and challenges involved in developing the manual and presents solutions used in the manual itself
Respuestas iniciales ante el COVID-19 por cuatro Gobiernos Centroamericanos
Get PDFEl artículo revisa las respuestas iniciales de los gobiernos de Guatemala, El Salvador, Costa Rica y Panamá ante la pandemia del Covid-19. A partir de una revisión de documentos oficiales, se identifican y comparan las características de las respuestas que estos gobiernos ejecutan durante el primer semestre del 2020. Se concluye que, si bien los gobiernos desarrollan principalmente medidas de bioseguridad, hay diferencias importantes en las estrategias adoptadas por estos, posiblemente motivadas por las características sociales, política y económicas imperantes en dichos países. Asimismo, la incertidumbre y falta de información que se tenía en los primeros momentos de la pandemia del COVID-19 parece que influye para que los gobiernos de estos países sigan las recomendaciones giradas por organismos internacionales, sin que haya un fuerte interés de revisar o reajustar estas medidas según las características de sus países

No full textEste artículo revisa la coyuntura del primer año de la pandemia del COVID-19 a la luz de las normas sociales y la prosocialidad. Para esto, nos acercamos sintéticamente a la metodología de bola de nieve para analizar una serie de experiencias e intervenciones de entidades públicas y privadas que alentaban comportamientos prosociales para evitar contagios masivos en la población en 2020, en el momento más inicial de la pandemia. Los resultados de estos estudios se presentan como recomendaciones para los tomadores de decisión y otros interesados en aplicar herramientas similares para crisis de salud pública. El texto finaliza recopilando los aprendizajes de casos pasados, adicionando la reflexión de los autores sobre la información encontrada
