The upsurge of youth and underage participation in social-vices and their disastrous Effects are causes of apprehension for the future of Nigeria. This trend is attributed to the Ineffectiveness of the home in child upbringing contrary to the Islamic provisions. This development indicates missing links between the Islamic duties of mother on child rearing and the practice of Nigeria mothers. This scenario precipitates this study which explores the Islamic mothering culture in curbing the social vices, especially among the Muslim youths in the country. The motherly roles depicted in the Qur\u27an serves as models for nurturing upright children. The paper expounds on some missing links between the Islamic mothering provisions and the practice among the Nigeria Muslim mothers. The study also suggests manners of fixing the gaps created in mothering Muslim children. Interview and related studies were the major research instruments. Muslims, male and female, between the ages of 12 and 80 were randomly selected as interviewees. These are: Islamic scholars, educators, school counselors, parents, youth, etc. The findings revealed that Islamic mothering is a comprehensive nurturing of a child to forestall his/her engagement in nefarious activities. Impediments to Islamic mothering identified are majorly mother\u27s disposition and economic predicament. The study concludes that mothers should be resolute on discharging their duties as ordained by Islam, by being available and accommodating and consciously managing the meager resources made available to them. These shall make the home peaceful and serve as shield for the children against vices
An Overview of Islamic Guidance and Counselling
Guidance and counselling which are two inseparable entities are sources and means of providing direction or advice on decision-making or course of action. Islam views guidance and counselling as sources and means of achieving the best in all human endeavours since without proper guidance, one may be dissuaded or completely swayed off the track. More often than not, Guidance and counselling are seen as western concepts even by Muslims who are not aware that Islam has a lot to offer in terms of Guidance and counselling; and that Islam has laid down principles and guidelines for Guidance and counselling. The aim of this study therefore is to showcase the Islamic concept of Guidance and counselling. The study adopts exegetical and analytical research methods. The findings reveal that contrary to the misconceptions in certain quarters, Islam has elaborate guiding principles that could provide directions and serve as pieces of advice on decision-making. The study concludes that for Muslims to maximize the benefits of Islam\u27s Guidance and counselling principles, they need to be more conversant with the Qur\u27an and the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad
Application of Islamic Law of Inheritance in Kwara State Shari‘ah Court of Appeal: A General Survey
Acquisition of wealth is one of natural phenomenon in human life. It is equally natural that at the point of death, one would leave some of its acquired properties which in turn become properties of other people. Tradition of sharing such estate differs from one culture to another. Islam as a system that determines the totality of Muslim life has distinct itself from other systems in its comprehensive provision for divine system of inheritance. Islamic law of inheritance is a commandment of Allah derived from the verses of the holy Qur’ān, which describes the rightful beneficiaries of inheritance and their portions in details. Among some contemporary Nigerian Muslims internecine scramble for the distribution of the property of a deceased person has become a serious societal problem that requires profound attention. In this regard the Kwara State Shari‘ah Court of Appeal has contributed positively on inheritance cases among the Muslims in Kwara State. Therefore, this paper aims to appraise the application of Islamic law of inheritance in Kwara State Shari‘ah Court of Appeal with a view to determining the level of impact on the Muslims. The study adopts historical and descriptive methods. Though the law remains accurate and standard, yet human imperfection allows some error of calculation and application of the law
Fundamental Cope of Natural Laws in Ifá Divination as Agents of Morality for Good Governance in Nigeria
Ifá is the natural wisdom and knowledge concerning all life activities which was divinely revealed to Ọ̀rúnmìlà by Olòdùmarè, God in Yorùbá belief. It is the living foundation and custodian of the deity, moral, economic, language, religion, healing arts, tradition, culture and metaphysical orders. However, the concern of this paper is on the moral contents of the natural laws in Ifá corpus. Basically, there are two fundamental codes of natural laws in Ifá divination under which all other laws in Ifá exist. The first law enjoined every human being to acknowledge Olòdùmarè as the Supreme Being and father of the universe who created all things. While the second law says "do unto others what you want them do unto you." However, it is quite unfortunate that, today, these laws that linked human relationships with the Supreme Being and the dos and don\u27ts of the divinities and those that hold the society together in harmonious relationships are no longer in proper use. This is evident in the lack of fear for the Creator, mismanagement of public funds, embezzlement and political killings, to mention a few. The purpose of this paper, therefore, is to examine the natural laws in Ifá and suggest how it can help sustain our fragile democracy as it did in the traditional society in the past for the sake of our future. The paper is premised on Matthew Flanagan\u27s theory of divine commands which asserts that what is moral is determined by what God commands, and to be moral is to follow his commands

Asmā’ullahi waṣ-Ṣifātihi: A Discourse on Polemics of Sufi and Theologians
Asmā’ullah waṣ-Ṣifātihi which denote Names and Attributes of God are important aspects of the science of Tawhīd which catches area of interest of researchers in the field of theology in Islam. Previous works have apparently established that the real Names and Attributes of God are known to the generality of Muslims because they are directly mentioned in the Glorious Qur\u27ān and Sunnah of the prophet. However, these works were confronted with the challenges of discovery of other Names and Attributes of God that are not directly mentioned in the Qur\u27an, which some schools of thought claim to exist in Islam especially the Sufi school of thought. This paper therefore discusses the opinion of Sūfi and theologians on the connotation of Allah as unique Name of God and His Essence and examines other names of God and His attributes which are not directly mentioned in the Qur\u27ān and Sunnah. The paper adopts qualitative methodology. The paper concludes that the names of God-Allah have no etymology and derivatives, and the names of Allah are more than the ones that are openly mentioned in the Qur\u27ān and the Hadith of Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W) and Allah manifests His hidden names to those who are in close relationship with Him in terms of piety and worship. The paper recommends that the theologians should not stick to their own opinion alone but rather examine and agree to views of other schools of thought if they are appropriate and the Sufis should not present their arguments in abstruse expressions but in lucid manner that could be comprehended
An Interrogation of Perspectives on Pre-Mosaic Narratives Tithe-Related Narratives
Tithing which describes the giving of ten per cent of one\u27s income for religious purposes is a popular religious practice among Christians. Its occurrences and practice in the Old Testament can be classified into three eras; pre-mosaic, mosaic and post-mosaic. Opinions are divided on Christian adoption of this ancient Israelite practice. The pro-tithing perspective leans strongly on Abram\u27s model to argue that contrary to the anti-tithing dubbing of the practice as legalism, the practice predated the Mosaic Law. Therefore, this paper examines the three references (Genesis 4:1-10; Genesis 14:8-24 and Genesis 28:10-22) to tithing prior to the Mosaic age and interrogates the dual perspectives arising from them with the intent to ascertain the tenability of the claim of tithing advocates. Historical and analytical methods were used in achieving the set goal of this paper. Data from the biblical passages as well as from scholars\u27 views were critically appraised. It was discovered that the divergent opinions on tithing arc due to making of assertions and querying of the narratives beyond what they were scripted to supply. Therefore, while the heroism of the biblical patriarchs of faith can be emulated, on the strength of God\u27s ownership of man and the inestimable blessing of redemption that believers in Christ enjoy, serving God with material possession should not be conditional neither should it be by compulsion
Nursing-Care Delivery: An Islamic Appraisal of the Attitudinal Dispositions of Contemporary Muslim Nurses in Nigeria
Islam is regarded as not just a religion but a complete way of life. That is because it is a comprehensive religion, encompassing guidelines for conducting all human affairs, both religious and mundane. It is in this direction that Islam has a lot to offer to the Nursing Profession. This paper appraises the attitudinal dispositions of contemporary Muslim Nurses in Nigeria in the light of Islamic provisions. Both descriptive and analytical research methods were used in the study. Information about the activities and attitude of contemporary Muslim Nurses in Nigeria were collected through oral interviews and administration of questionnaires. The study reveals that while some Muslims in the Nursing profession apply their knowledge of Islam and are meticulous in the delivery of services to their patients, there are some others who do not reflect the teachings of Islam in the discharge of their essential duties; and as such put up negative attitude. The study therefore concluded and suggested that there is the need for Muslim nurses to see their calling as a humanitarian service; and also as an act of ʿIbādah, for which they will be rewarded appropriately in the hereafter
The Clergy and Nation Building: A Socio-Religious Perspective
The clergy is a call of God for the purpose of spreading the gospel and saving of souls for Christ and His kingdom. In a nation filled with injustice, internal colonialism, kidnapping and thuggery, vandalization of properties and destruction of lives, oppression and poverty, the clergy has a great role to play in building the nation. This paper seeks to address properly who the clergy is, how the clergy can help to build the society from socio-religious perspective, through Church oversight, visitation, counselling, intercession, speaking against harmful cultural practices, speaking against gender inequality, seeking for peace in the midst of communal unrest, standing against corruption, becoming part and parcel of politics for good governance. The analytical method is being used in which books, journals and other relevant materials are used. This research recommends among others that the clergy should use the pulpit to correct the ills in the nation rather than compromising and singing the praise of the wicked
