In vivo measurement of radiation dose during brachytherapy treatment using scintillation detectors
Introduction: In vivo verification of the delivered dose in brachytherapy remains an unsolved dosimetric problem. Conventional detectors based on ionization chambers, semiconductors or thermoluminescent (TL) materials based on LiF or Al2O3:C compounds cannot be used for this purpose. The first way to solve this problem is to use dosimetric materials that can be placed in the patient's body to record in-situ the delivered radiation dose using the OSL and/or scintillation phenomena.Material and Methods: In this work, it was proposed to use a known scintillation crystal of Ce3+ doped Ga3Ga3Al2O12:Ce garnet (GAGG:Ce) attached with an long optical fiber to measure in situ the radiation dose during brachytherapy treatment. The measurements were first performed in a phantom, and then on patients in the clinical conditions of the Oncology Center in Bydgoszcz.Results: The obtained results are very encouraging. Luminescence spectra from scintillators were recorded using a long optical fiber and a sensitive spectrometer which can be placed in a safe place. Measurements on the phantom showed the perfect linear correlation between the dose and signal registered by detector based on the GAGG:Ce crystal. Meanwhile, clinical measurements are subject to some uncertainty regarding the accuracy of detector placement in the treatment planning system and possible passive emission response of the optical fiber.Conclusion. Scintillation crystals combined with optical fibers and very sensitive luminescence spectrometers create an ideal measurement system for in situ determining the dose of various ionizing radiations. However, their use in clinical practice requires the development of procedures for precisely positioning the detector in relation to the radiation target.</p
Surface areas and adsorption energies of biochars estimated from nitrogen and water vapour adsorption isotherms
The deposited data were collected as part of the research project entitled ‘Wpływ biowęgla wzbogaconego mikrobiologicznie na właściwości fizykochemiczne i biologiczne agregatów glebowych - badania modelowe’, eng. ‘The influence of microbiologically enriched biochars on the physicochemical and biological properties of soil aggregates - model studies’, financed by the National Science Centre, Poland, as part of the project under the SONATA 17 (project no: 2021/43/D/ST10/01656). The research is based on model aggregates made from biochar and biochar enriched with microorganisms (Trichoderma) with soils of a different texture class and physicochemical properties. Research in the project includes bulk density tests, effects on structure and pore characteristics, water and mechanical aggregate stability, wettability, microorganisms activity, and other physicochemical and biological parameters.The research was conducted from November 2022 to April 2023 at the Institute of Agrophysics, Polish Academy of Sciences in Lublin. The collection contains data on water vapor and nitrogen adsorption isotherms obtained for various biomasses and biochars produced from those biomasses at different temperatures.The dataset consists of the following files:A_1.xlsx – Raw data of water vapour adsorption isotherms obtained for various biomasses (willow sawdust, peat, three organic sludges) and biochars produced from those biomasses at different temperatures (300, 450, 600 °C).A_2.xlsx – Raw data of nitrogen adsorption isotherms obtained for various biomasses (willow sawdust, peat, three organic sludges) and biochars produced from those biomasses at different temperatures (300, 450, 600 °C).The data was compiled on the basis of laboratory tests.The results presented in file A_1 were obtained using the following research equipment: Vacuum dryer (OV-12, Jeio Tech, Republic of Korea), Vacuum dryer DZ-2BC (Chemland, Poland).The results presented in file A_2 were obtained using the following research equipment: 3Flex surface analyzer (Norcross, GA, USA).</p
Animal studies in peritoneal dialysis
The first version of Animal Research: Reporting of In Vivo Experiments (ARRIVE 1.0) guidelines was introduced to improve reporting of animal research, but did not lead to major improvements in this respect, which applied also to animal studies on peritoneal dialysis. Here, we examined the performance of a revised version of these guidelines (ARRIVE 2.0) in animal studies related to peritoneal dialysis.</p

Enhancing photostability by thermodynamic and kinetic factors: free-base and palladium meso-aryl-octaethylporphyrins
Photostability is a crucial parameter in applications based on light-matter interactions. In this work, we demonstrate that photodegradation efficiency can be strongly decreased by altering thermodynamic and kinetic characteristics of a chromophore. Photobleaching quantum yields have been determined for a series of free-base octaethylporphyrins and their palladium metallocomplexes gradually substituted by phenyl groups at the meso positions. Due to increased oxidation potential of palladium porphyrins, photostability is improved in comparison with zinc or magnesium derivatives. A spectacular effect is observed for nonplanar palladium derivatives in which the triplet lifetime in deoxygenated solution is shortened by three orders of magnitude with respect to planar porphyrins. Comparison of photodestruction efficiencies in oxygen-containing and degassed toluene samples shows a hundred-fold decrease of photobleaching quantum yields for nonplanar palladium porphyrins, reaching an extremely low value of less than 10-9. In contrast, free-base, non-planar porphyrins are less stable than the planar analogues in non-degassed toluene. Finally, planar free-base and palladium porphyrins become significantly less photostable in the degassed solution, because the triplet decay time increases by three orders of magnitude compared to oxygen-containing samples.</p
Spectroelectrochemical characterization of lipid membranes in Tris organic buffer
This dataset contains raw and processed data supporting the spectroelectrochemical study of floating lipid membranes formed on gold electrodes modified with β-thioglucose. Using surface-enhanced infrared absorption spectroscopy (SEIRAS) under electrochemical control, we investigated the structural and dynamic properties of lipid bilayers in Tris buffer under applied electric potentials. The dataset includes SEIRAS spectra, deconvoluted peak components. These measurements reveal how Tris buffer components and applied electric fields affect bilayer organization, water orientation, and lipid–surface interactions. The data were collected using a Nicolet iS50 FTIR spectrometer and CHI650E potentiostat, and processed with Origin2022. All spectra are provided in plain text format for reuse and reanalysis. The dataset complements the findings presented in the manuscript “Spectroelectrochemical properties of floating lipid membranes in Tris organic buffer” (Majewska et al., J. Phys. Chem. C, 2025, DOI: 10.1021/acs.jpcc.5c00996) and is intended to support further research in electroactive biomimetic interfaces.</p

Wyniki reakcji fluorescencyjnej hybrydyzacji in situ z wykorzystaniem sondy komplementarnej do fragmentu intronu trzeciego transkryptu kodującego białko niezbędne dla prawidłowego przebiegu eksportu nukleoplazmatycznego mRNA (sonda znakowana DIG). Dodatkowo przeprowadzono reakcję in situ hybrydyzacji z zastosowaniem bezposrednio znakowanych sond komplementranych do ogonów poliA (fluorochrom Cy3)oraz sekwencji U2snRNA (fluorochrom Cy5). Nephroportection effect of selected doses of Ganoderma lucidum and Polyporus umbellatus extracts in dogs and cats - a preliminary study
The dataset comprises results from in vitro experiments investigating the effects of Ganoderma lucidum (GL) and Polyporus umbellatus (PU) extracts on MDCK and CRFK cell lines. The data include assessments of cell viability evaluated using two established methods: MTT and neutral red uptake (NRU) assays. Additionally, the dataset contains analyses of the extracts’ impact on mRNA expression levels of selected fibrosis-related marker genes (SMA, TIMP1, COL1A, FN1) under both basal conditions and after stimulation with TGF-β, obtained by Real Time PCR. It also includes results from experiments evaluating the anti-inflammatory potential of GL and PU extracts in LPS-induced inflammation models. Furthermore, the dataset features measurements of antioxidant enzyme activities (SOD, GPx) and changes in malondialdehyde (MDA) concentration, providing insights into oxidative stress modulation by the tested extracts.Data contains a ReadMe.pdf file.</p
