    UV-crosslinked collagen-chondroitin sulfate nanofibers: Insights on production, characterization, in-vitro digestibility

    <p>Electrospun polymer nanofibers have significant attention in various fields. In this study, collagen/chondroitin sulfate (Col/CS) nanofibers were fabricated by electrospinning, the effect of solution and processing parameters on fiber morphology was investigated. The resulting fibers were exposed to UV light for the crosslinking process. Granola bars with Col/CS nanofibers were prepared and subjected to in vitro digestion. The electrospun Col/CS nanofibers, fabricated at a 95:5 (w/w) ratio under 26 kV voltage, 0.8 mL/h feeding rate, and a 15 cm tip-to-collector distance, exhibited a smooth, bead-free fibrous morphology with an average diameter of 79.88 +/- 6.01 nm. After UV-crosslinking, no new bands were observed in the FTIR spectrum, but notable changes occurred in the Amide I and II regions. Granola bars containing Col/CS nanofibers exhibited significantly higher Col content in the intestinal digestion fraction of in vitro digestion compared to the control group (free Col + CS). On the other hand, no significant difference was observed between the CS content of the samples after intestinal digestion. These findings demonstrate that electrospinning followed by UV crosslinking is an effective method for producing Col/CS fibers without the use of harsh solvents, highlighting Col/CS nanofibers as promising candidates for the development of novel functional foods.</p&gt

    Post metabolic bariatric surgery weight regain: the importance of GLP-1 levels

    <p>Weight regain and insufficient weight loss are essential problems after metabolic bariatric surgery (MBS) in people living with obesity. Changes in the level of glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) secreted from the gut after bariatric surgery are one of the underlying mechanisms for successful initial weight loss. Studies and meta-analyses have revealed that postprandial GLP-1 levels increase after the Roux-en-Y gastric bypass and sleeve gastrectomy, but fasting GLP-1 levels do not increase significantly. Some observational studies have shown the relationship between higher postprandial GLP-1 levels and successful weight loss after bariatric surgery. There is growing evidence that GLP-1-receptor agonist (GLP-1-RA) use in patients who regained weight after bariatric surgery has resulted in significant weight loss. In this review, we aimed to summarize the changes in endogenous GLP-1 levels and their association with weight loss after MBS, describe the effects of GLP-1-RA use on weight loss after MBS, and emphasize metabolic adaptations in light of the recent literature. We hypothesized that maintaining higher basal-bolus GLP-1-RA levels may be a promising treatment choice in people with obesity who failed to lose weight after bariatric surgery.</p&gt

    Effect of enhanced quenching on properties of melt spun multifilament poly[3-hydroxybutyrate] yarns

    <p>Bacterial poly-3-hydroxybutyrate is a thermoplastic biopolyester that is considered a potential alternative to traditional fossil-based plastics due to its rapid biodegradation performance in both soil and marine environments and its compostability. Due to problems in thermal and crystallization behaviors of the bacterial poly-3-hydroxybutyrate polymer, an improvement has been made in the cooling channel of the conventional fiber spinning process. Using an enhanced quench channel, named as a half tube on a conventional melt spinning line, melt spinning of the bacterial poly-3-hydroxybutyrate multifilament fibers is successfully carried out. The maximum crystallization temperature of polymers was taken into account while adjusting the quenching process. The study examined the impact of varying drawing ratios and the designed quenching apparatus on the thermal (differential scanning calorimetry), mechanical (tensile and drawing force tests), morphological, and crystal structure characteristics of fibers. The quenching apparatus has visibly created a homogeneous melt flow under the spinnerets. While it has a negative impact on fiber cross-sectional formation, raising the draw ratio greatly enhances mechanical properties.</p&gt

    Predicting daily net ecosystem production in shallow lakes from dissolved oxygen saturation levels: a pan-European mesocosm experiment and modelling approach

    <p>Net ecosystem production (NEP) is an important indicator of lake ecosystem function and integrity. An earlier study, restricted to one geographical region, indicated that oxygen saturation levels (DO%) might be used to predict daily NEP in shallow lakes. To test the generality of the method, we used DO% data collected in a standardised pan-European mesocosm experiment with contrasting trophic states and water levels covering a large climate gradient (from Sweden to Turkey). We corroborated these data with process-based DO simulations. The NEP similar to DO% relation depended on factors influencing gas transfer: water depth and wind. The NEP similar to DO% relation per volume became weaker with increasing depth (1-2 m) but was independent of depth when area based. Simulations indicated that the marginalisation of the depth was sensitive to wind conditions. Trophic status, temperature and light showed no or only marginal (climate zone) effects (experimental data), while the simulations indicated influence of those factors under particular wind-depth conditions. We confirmed that when considering also wind and depth effects, midday DO% potentially provides reliable estimates of daily NEP. Therefore, historical monitoring data of DO% might be used to estimate NEP, and process-based oxygen models may be valuable tool therein. We encourage further tests.</p&gt

    Design of immunoassay based biosensor platforms for SARS-CoV-2 detection using highly specific monoclonal antibodies

    <p>The global expand of SARS-CoV-2 has highlighted the importance of early and rapid detection to control the spread of a pandemic. In this study, specific and high-affinity monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) were developed against the conserved nucleocapsid protein of the virus among variants. Appropriate antibody pairs were selected to develop a lateral flow immunoassay (LFIA) and an unconventional application of an amperometric biosensor using unmodified screen-printed electrodes and external magnetic bead preparation. In the study, the LFIA we developed detected the SARS-CoV-2 virus at 104 PFU/mL, while the amperometric biosensor enabled sensitive detection of inactivated SARS-CoV-2 with an LOD of 5.5 PFU/mL. After validating the developed systems, it is considered that the mAbs we have obtained will enable the sensitive and selective detection of SARS-CoV-2 in LFIA and amperometric immunosensor platforms for clinical diagnosis.</p&gt

    Fârâbîci Sosyal Zümre Modeli Üzerine Bir İnceleme

    <p></p> <p>Öz</p> <p>Sosyal zümre modelleri, klasik siyaset felsefelerinde sıkça karşılaştığımız ideal toplum tasavvurlarının önemli bir bileşenidir. Bunun başlıca nedeni, belirli bir sosyal ayrışmanın vuku bulmadığı bir toplum inşa etmenin mümkün olmamasıdır. Bu makale, ilk defa Platon’un eserlerinde ortaya konulan, Fârâbî’nin tevarüs ettiği ve Fârâbî’yi müteakiben de  Nasîruddîn Tûsî ile Kınalızâde Ali Çelebi tarafından benimsenen bir sosyal zümre modelini konu edinmektedir. Sözü edilen zümre modeli her ne kadar köken itibariyle Platon’a kadar geri götürülebilirse de Fârâbî tarafından hem yapı hem de içerik açısından önemli ölçüde yeniden yorumlanıp İslâm toplumunun sosyo-politik gerçekliğine uyarlanmıştır. Tûsî ile Kınalızâde de bu uyarlanmış modeli sınırlı değişikliklerle sürdürmüştür. Dolayısıyla, makale Platoncu bir modeli değil büyük oranda Fârâbî’nin inşa ettiği yapı ve içeriğin korunup geliştirildiği ve o nedenle de “Fârâbîci” şeklinde adlandırılabilecek bir modeli incelemektedir. Konusu ile uyumlu biçimde makalenin kapsamı ve ana kaynakları Fârâbî, Tûsî ve Kınalızâde’nin eserleri ve fikirleri ile sınırlandırılmıştır. Makalenin Fârâbîci modele ilişkin çözmeye çalıştığı problemler dizisinin en başında gelenler şunlardır: Fârâbî ve takipçilerine göre ideal bir toplumda bulunacak sosyal zümreler nelerdir? Zümrelere kimler ne sebeple mensup olabilir? Zümreler arasında geçiş mümkün müdür? Her bir sosyal zümrenin kendisinden beklenen toplumsal görevi en üst düzeyde sergilemesine yardım edecek özel nitelikler nelerdir? Makale boyunca incelemeler zikredilen bu problemleri merkeze alan başlıklar üzerinden yürütülmektedir. Her bir başlık sırasıyla Fârâbî, Tûsî ve Kınalızâde’nin ilgili problem etrafındaki yanıtlarını ortaya koymakta ve bu filozofların uzlaştığı yahut ayrıştığı noktalara işaret etmektedir. Son olarak makalenin temel bulgularını ise şu şekilde sıralayabiliriz: Fârâbîci modelde zümre sayısı beş olup bunlar Seçkinler/Üstünler, Dilciler, Miktar Belirleyenler, Askerler ve Kazanç Sağlayanlar’dan oluşmaktadır. Sayılan bu zümrelere mensubiyet kriteri doğuştan getirilen tabiî yetenekler ile sonradan kazanılan iradî becerilerdir. Zümreler arasında geçiş mutlak değil belirli şartlara bağlı olarak gerçekleşebilecek bir olgudur. Her bir zümrenin kendi görevini en iyi şekilde icra için ihtiyaç duyacağı karakter nitelikleri farklıdır. This is primarily due to the inherent impossibility of constructing a society devoid of some form of social segregation. This article examines a particular social community model that first emerged in the works of Plato, was inherited by </strong>al-Fārābī<strong> and was subsequently adopted by </strong>Naṣīr al-Dīn Ṭūsī and Kınalızāde Ali Çelebi<strong>. Although this community model can be traced back to Platonic origins, al-Fārābī significantly reinterpreted it, both in form and content, and adapted it to the socio-political realities of the Islamic society. Ṭūsī and </strong>Kınalızāde <strong>continued this adapted model with only minor adjustments. Consequently, the article does not analyze a Platonic model but rather a model that retains and elaborates the structure and content developed by al-Fārābī, and hence appropriately can be designated as the “Fārābīan”. Consistent with its subject matter, the article confines its scope and primary sources to the works and ideas of al-Fārābī, Ṭūsī, and </strong>Kınalızāde<strong>. The principal questions it seeks to address within the context of the Fārābīan model include the following: What are the social communities deemed essential in an ideal society according to al-Fārābī and his followers? On what grounds and by whom can community membership be acquired? Is inter-community mobility possible? What specific qualities are required for each community to fulfill its designated social function in the most effective manner? </strong>Throughout the article, the analyses are conducted under headings centered on these problems. Each title presents the answers of Fārābī, Tūsī and Kınalızāde to the relevant problem and points out the points on which these philosophers convergence and divergence among them. Consequently, The article’s main findings can be summarized as follows: The Fārābīan model comprises five social communities—<strong>the Elites/Excellents, the Linguists, the Quantifiers, the Soldiers, and the Gain-Seekers</strong><strong>.</strong> Membership in these communities is determined by a combination of innate natural aptitudes and acquired volitional skills. While inter-community mobility is not absolute, it is conditionally feasible. Furthermore, each community requires a distinct set of character traits to optimally perform its respective function. Bu tür zafiyetler, protokolün entegrasyonunu kolaylaştırmak ve performansını artırmak amacıyla, protokolün kriterlerine tam uyum sağlanmadan eksik ya da hatalı bir şekilde uygulanmasından kaynaklanmaktadır.     Developing a mobile application with geo-analytic tools to perform real estate valuation within smart cities

    <p>Urban land management policies and applications require comprehensive information about real estate development dynamics and value criteria. In this study, geo-analytic tools and a mobile app were produced for residential property valuation in smart cities. Geo-analytical tools were automated to process and use datasets extracted from the databases and 'Smart Real Estate' mobile app using data sets produced by the developed geo-analytics tools shares map services automatically. In this way, users can get real-time location data via web services by triggering geographic analysis tools at certain intervals. It can manage and analyse big geographic data to share smart city services about real estate to citizens.</p&gt

The present review navigates through their antibacterial applications; from wound dressings to packaging materials with inherent antibacterial properties, the potential applications underscore the versatility and adaptability of these materials.     Colorectal Cancers and Microsatellite Instability

    <p>Colorectal cancer (CRC) is a multifactorial disease arising from the complex interplay between genetic predisposition and environmental influences. Despite its widespread incidence globally, CRC demonstrates favorable prognostic outcomes when detected at an early stage. Microsatellite instability (MSI) is a common molecular abnormality associated with colorectal tumorigenesis. This review provides a comprehensive analysis of the molecular mechanisms, clinical implications, therapeutic approaches, and immune system interactions in MSI-associated CRC (MSI-CRC). Molecular changes include DNA slippage, dysfunction in the DNA mismatch repair (dMMR) system, and genetic/epigenetic factors that contribute to MSI. Clinically, MSI-CRC is characterized by distinct phenotypic features, including associations with Lynch syndrome, specific diagnostic methodologies, and prognostic relevance. The therapeutic landscape highlights the promising efficacy of immunotherapies and targeted treatments, particularly in dMMR-MSI-H-CRC. Immune dynamics within the tumor microenvironment (TME) reveal patterns of immune infiltration, immune evasion strategies, and opportunities to enhance the effectiveness of immunotherapy. Understanding these interrelated aspects is critical for developing tailored therapeutic strategies and improving patient outcomes in MSI-CRC.</p&gt
