Naufrage
Abstract: Often considered as an effect of human hybris, a transgression of a limit or a divine punishment, shipwreck is also an aesthetic topos of the sublime. This article will explore a sea voyage, the one of Paul and Virginie by Bernardin de Saint-Pierre, which ends with a sublime shipwreck, a tragic and epic outcome specific to oceanic enterprises. A grandiose moment and an angelic transfiguration, which dramatizes the contrasts between transgressive desires of puberty and the deadly taboo of virginity - as in Atala -, between social conditioning, vanity of a promised wealth and pastoral of the mother earth finally denied, the ending of the novel will have a success that will transcend writing to invest engraving and painting, up to representations in everyday objects.

«How a Ship, having passed the Line, was driven by storms». The metaphorical journey of The Ancient Mariner
Abstract: The article examines Samuel Taylor Coleridge’s use of navigation in his Rime of the Ancient Mariner (1798), in which the motionless ship becomes a metaphor for alienation and Christian suffering. In the poem the question of the divine is constantly reiterated, thus becoming the centre of both the author’s aesthetic theory and poetics. As a natural philosopher, Coleridge associates divine wrath with the concept of the Sublime and explores the themes of sin and repentance through a physical, spiritual and introspective journey that ends in redemption. In the poem ‘landscape’ rhymes with ‘mindscape’ and the ship in the open sea becomes a complex religious, cultural, political and social metaphor.

“Choked by a kind of brightness”: Travelling Transculturally into Leila Aboulela’s Narrative of Faith
Sudanese-British Leila Aboulela places religious faith and Islam right at the centre of her fiction, thus posing a double challenge of Otherness to a largely secularized and largely Islamophobic Western audience. In its effort at culturally translating religious and cultural foreignness without domesticating it, her narrative enacts a powerfully transcultural aesthetic experience. Something Old, Something New is the sample text chosen to substantiate discussion
Something Old, Something New è il testo scelto per sostenere a livello esemplare l\u27argomentazione
Corte, fiesta, música y danza en Adramón (ca. 1530)
This article studies the representation and assimilation of the playful facet of the courtly ethos in Adramón, a Spanish romance of chivalry preserved in a single manuscript in the National Library of France in Paris. The analysis highlights the importance of music and dance within the chivalric narrative according to the precepts that Baldassare Castiglione established in the Libro del cortegiano about courtly behavior, considering the presence of three specific dances in the work, their orientation, and function.
In this research, framed within the development of a doctoral thesis on the representation of thought and religious politics in chivalric books published between the reigns of the Catholic Monarchs and Charles V, the liturgical celebrations that culminate in the performance of processions invoking the divinity, represented in "Florisando" (1510), are studied. Subsequently, a comparative analysis is conducted between the passages of the Castilian work and its Italian translation, "Don Florisandro" of 1550. The study demonstrates the author\u27s profound knowledge of liturgy and how these celebrations were common at the time of the work\u27s writing. Similarly, the comparison between the two works, Castilian and Italian, provides interesting data on Mambrino Roseo\u27s approach in his translations of the Amadisian cycle.

Exploring Transcultural Dimensions: Hindu Mythology and Identity Politics in Mithu Sanyal’s Identitti
Mithu Sanyal’s novel Identitti, published in Germany in 2021, intricately intertwines race, identity and mythology, delving into profound questions of authenticity and belonging. The protagonist’s mixed-race background and her journey of self-discovery, influenced by the Hindu Goddess Kali, underscore the novel’s engagement with religious figures in personal identity formation. This study provides a comprehensive analysis of the novel’s complex narrative to show how Identitti contributes to the broader discourse on literature’s role in navigating transcultural and transreligious processes, offering fresh insights into the challenges and opportunities posed by a multicultural and multi-faith world.
From ‘Covid-free’ to ‘Coronapocalypse’: Trendy Neologisms and Nonce Words of the Covid-19 Pandemic
This study explores a dataset of Covid-related terms drawn from the Coronavirus Corpus (2020) in order to examine the impact of the crisis on language development in terms of novel words employed in popularisation discourse, namely online newspapers and magazines. The primary goals of the study are (1) to establish the stability, recognition and reusability of Covid-19 novel words (i.e. whether they are proper neologisms or nonce words), and (2) to investigate their main functions and effects. Results from a discourse-based analysis show that, on the one hand, new compounds (e.g. Covid-free) and regularly derived words (e.g. post-Covid) are used to disseminate information about the Covid-19 crisis to laymen and non-specialists. On the other hand, novel blends and similar creative words (e.g. coronapocalypse from ‘coronavirus’ and ‘apocalypse’) often have the function of breaking the tensions created by a difficult, even catastrophic scenario, but may also be used in the context of hate speech, to criticise or attack others, such as people ignoring stay-at-home orders and public health measures
Face Masks and User-Generated Discourse in the Covid-19 Era
Ensuing the World Health Organization’s (WHO) announcement on 11 March 2020 that Covid-19 had become a global pandemic, many governments worldwide introduced wearing masks as one of the primary measures to abide by in order to limit the spread of the virus. Since then, face masks have become one of the main symbols of the pandemic. Although their effectiveness in reducing the spread of Covid-19 infection has been backed by scientific evidence, wearing face masks has triggered a significant debate, mostly on social media (Baker, Concannon and So 2022; Al-Ramahi et al. 2021). User-generated discourse has expanded dramatically during the pandemic due to the enhanced online interaction possibilities. In particular, mask aversion is still perceived and represented online as an antisocial norm that has emerged during the current Covid-19 pandemic (Kim 2022).This study examines the reactions of Facebook and Twitter users to a recent new Coronavirus alert raised by New York City in response to rising cases, recommending, though not requiring, people to wear masks in public indoor settings. The comments posted were analysed using the basic methodology of Computer-Mediated Discourse Analysis (CMDA), which allows the identification of patterns in interactive message content (Herring 2010), and interpreted through a Critical Discourse Analysis lens to investigate the reasons of Internet users for and against wearing masks as a mitigation measure against Covid-19 spread. A quantitative and qualitative research approach was employed to analyse conversational and behavioural data in the social media discourse framed by the two factions supporting or contrasting mask wearing (Lang, Erickson and Jing-Schmidt 2021; Franz et al. 2019; Martin and White 2005). In addition, this study attempted to assess the variance in response to the same content posted on different platforms. The results show that social media can be a valuable source of data mining that could help decision-makers better understand the public discourse around crucial public health issues like wearing masks to curb the Coronavirus pandemic and effectively address public perception by adopting more suitable policies
