Hepatitis E Virus Prevalence Amongst Blood Donors in Kenya
Introduction: Hepatitis E (HEV) is an emerging cause of viral hepatitis mainly transmitted through the fecal-oral and parenteral routes. It has greatly affected populations in many parts of Kenya due to declined sanitation practices. The objective of the research was to determine IgM and IgG seroprevalence of HEV prevalence among blood donors in Kenya as well as its Anti-HEV sero-reactivity by demographic factors.
Material and Methods: Cross sectional research design was used to collect blood samples from six from regional blood collecting centers, with blood donors selected through proportionate stratified sampling. Serum were matched to the age and gender distribution of the blood donors and tested by IgM and IgG enzyme immunoassays (EIA). The screening was carried out using human MP Diagnostics (0721150096T-96 wells) HEV ELISA kit. To test for IgM and IgM anti-HEV antibodies, microplates with 96-well plate were used. Results were averaged to generate a signal-to-noise ratio with ≥1.0 designated as positive per the manufacturer’s recommended cutoff.
Result and Conclusion: On the analysis, IgM reactivity was associated with HEV (RR 1.66, 95%CI 1.07, 2.60; p = 0.024) while IgG reactivity was associated with increasing age (p 0.05)
The relationship between mission and performance of Christian faith-based hotels in Kenya
The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between the mission and Performance of Christian Faith-Based Hotels (CFBHs) in Kenya. Mission defines a significant long-term direction for the organization. There is little research that has been done on the relationship between the Mission and Performance of CFBHs in developing countries like Kenya. The objective of the study was to assess the relationship between the mission and Performance of Christian Faith-Based Hotels in Kenya. The study was guided by Denison’s organizational model and used the mixed methods approach guided by a cross-sectional survey research design. The population of this study was 1950 staff members, (72 managers and 1878 subordinate staff) from 24 Christian Faith-Based Hotels in Kenya. Stratified sampling was used where 322 subordinate staff were selected proportionate to the strata size while all the 72 managers were included in the study yielded a total of 394 respondents. Simple random sampling was used to select respondents in each stratum. Data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. The findings revealed that the dimensions of the mission had a significant influence on the performance of CFBHs in Kenya with a coefficient estimate of 0.325 and a critical ratio of 5.412 which is greater than the 1.96 Z score at a 5% level of significance. This study concluded that there is the relationship between mission and the performance of Christian Faith-Based Hotels in Kenya and recommends that more studies on Christian Faith-based Hotels be done
Panacea or Pacifier. Faith-Based Perspective on the Management of Cattle Rustling among Pastoral Communities in Kenya
The research study focused on the state and non-state policies employed to manage cattle rustling among pastoral communities in Kenya. The general objective was an evaluation of the interface between state and non-state policies in cattle rustling management among pastoral communities in Kenya. The specific objectives the effect of faith based policies, in the management of cattle rustling in Kenya. The area under study was in North western Kenya which comprised Turkana, West Pokot, Elgeyo-Marakwet, Baringo and Samburu counties with a population of 2,980,035. The sample size was 444 determined by use of Krejcie, R.V., & Morgan, D.W table. Findings indicate that the Churches/mosques supports locals by loans to own permanent structures (mean score of 4.862), the Churches/mosques provides employment after school with a mean score of 4.138, further Churches/mosques offers education on good farming with mean score of 3.434. The Churches/mosques encourages community intermarriages with a mean score of 3.406) and finally the Churches/mosques offers locals market to their produce (mean of 2.453). It is apparent that state based policy interventions could only work if the members of the public were fully engaged before security disarmament exercises. To management cattle rustling, the Government of Kenya therefore has an option of engaging Public participation with the help of Faith- based leadership as primary lead agencies to spearhead sensitization before any security stabilization programs
Enhanced Speed Control of Separately Excited DC Motor Using Fuzzy-Neural Networks Controller
The dynamic behavior of a PID-type fuzzy logic control depends on the appropriate choice of its scaling factors. Fixed scaling factors cannot provide adequate control performance under a wide range of operating conditions. This paper proposes a control strategy for separately excited dc motor (SEDCM) speed control based on fuzzy logic and neural networks. The function of the neural networks is to adapt the scaling factors at the inputs and output of the fuzzy logic controller. Using MATLAB/Simulink, the performance of the proposed controller is highlighted in comparison with anti-windup proportional-integral (PI) and sliding mode controllers under variable speed reference, disturbances, and armature resistance variation
An Extended Security Measurement Framework For Open-Source Enterprise Resource Planning Software Security
Modern organizations are adopting new ways of measuring their level of security for compliance and justification of security investments. The highly interconnected environment has seen organizations generate lots of personal information and sensitive organizational data. Easiness in automation provided by open-source enterprise resource planning (ERP) software has accelerated its acceptability. The study aimed at developing a security measurement framework for open-source ERP software. The motivation was twofold: paradigm shift towards open-source ERP software and the need for justified investment on information security. Product quality evaluation method based on ISO 25010 framework guided the selection of attributes and factors. A security measurement framework with security posture at the highest level, attributes and factors was developed presenting a mechanism for assessing organization’s level of security. Security posture promotes customers’ confidence and gives management means to leverage resources for information security investment. The future work includes definition of metrics based on the framework
